Your tutorials are great. They not only clearly teach a new skill, but they are aimed at putting the viewer/learner in a position to take what they learned and apply it to create many cool things of their own. This I think is the best form of teaching/learning. Thank you very much for creating these.

Good one as always.... I also use dual meshes all the tiime, because the hexagons give a nice sci-fi-look. To get a dual mesh without geo-nodes, you can use a bevel-modifier, set it to 'Vertices' and use 'Percent' instead of 'Offset'. Set it to 33.333%. Done!

Thoroughly enjoyed this. I’m new to Blender and have learned a ton of stuff from watching your channel, so many thanks for that. The biggest issue I have is when someone says, “just subdivide it” or whatever command, without explaining what that actually does or why I would want to do it - even on videos dubbed as ‘for beginners’. I get and appreciate the time and effort people are putting into their videos but it can be so frustrating especially when you don’t know anyone else who’s into Blender that you can ask for advice. I know also that there is a Blender manual but sometimes that can be hard to understand. All that to say, I really appreciate your channel and videos - especially ones like this where you do explain things in particular. More please like this! Keep up the great work and hope you get over your flu soon. 👍🏻😎
@mballard1000
@mballard1000 Жыл бұрын
Subdividing gives your object more geometry so when you texture the object the bumbs will work or pop out more so you get a more realistic look. However more geometry means more drag on the render time or just ability to work with the model in the viewport. So it's a balance. More CPU and GPU will help but that depends on how much computer you want to buy.
@jodalry

Many thanks James. However, my point was not so much about subdivision itself, but was really about how more description as to what certain Blender features (especially regularly used ones such as you just gave here) do, would help those newer to Blender - especially on videos which are labelled as being for newbies such as myself. As I intimated before, I really really appreciate the time and effort everyone puts into their videos even if they don’t always do this. However, just saying it would be really helpful. The Ducky 3D channel is one of the best I’ve come across so far. Thanks for your response. 👍🏻😎

@@jodalry yea that just takes endless exploration of tutorials, a fair amount of rewinding but it comes eventually. no quick fix but man in the blender community if you "think it"somebody has a tutorial on it. That is amazing. I was "hobbiest" for years with other programs and I could barely find what i needed/wanted to learn/be able to do. It's all here/KZbin then it's just repetition of teqniques and tricks and so on and eventually you're making your own project/scene or my dream a short film. Have fun. send a mssg on my channel or website if you want i'll pass on info if i know it.

5:20 go in edit mode, delete only face, then apply a skin modifier with a subdiv set to one and smooth shade it. Both your option and the one i talk about are laggy on heavy meshes tho

Thank you for creating your tutorials. Question on Procedural materials vs. PBR downloads. I need to bake and export my scene for import to Web. Any idea on size/performance difference using a baked procedural mat vs a downloaded PBR mat? Thank you.

theres a helpful default blender addon that i use a lot called Node Arrange. it just arranges your nodes. works on every place with nodes, like the geometry nodes and the shader editor.

I can't seem to shade the volume cube. Is it because it's made in geo. nodes? Anybody else have this issue?
@HelicopterSchool
@HelicopterSchool Жыл бұрын
Not sure If I understand correctly... Are you are making mesh in geometry nodes and you are trying to apply a material that uses these shading techniques to it? (or are you making a volume?) Without seeing your setup I can only guess what the issue is, so this may or may not solve your issue, but here goes. In your geometry node, before the "group output" try using a "Set Material" node. In that node, select the material you are desiring. Again, not sure what you are trying to do so there is a good chance that wont work. There are a lot of youtube tutorials on blender that explain blender basics too if you are fairly new. So if you are totally confused it might help to do some more basic tutorials. I remember when I was first learning Blender I would bounce around within tutorials and struggle a lot until I reach some "critical mass" of knowledge and then tutorials as a whole got easier to follow. Good luck and have fun. PS: I am far from a blender expert so someone with more experience might correct this or have a better answer.
