That's a crock of shit. Everyone in the West has that genetic mutation. Its because right up until Victorian times, the only way we knew to ensure your drinking water was safe to drink, was to make beer with it. Hence the mutation for processing alcohol. Compare that with a different culture, (Native American) who realised that a better way to ensure clean water, was not to dump all your piss and shit into the same place you drink from. Those people lack the gene that allows us to process alcohol with less consequence. In exactly the same way, many Asian cultures are lactose intolerant.

One By One definitely had a rocky road to getting released, though. If you watched the band's "Back And Forth" documentary, you'd know that the first time they tried recording the album, they were spending millions of dollars in a fancy studio and it wasn't coming out the way they wanted, Chris Shiflett felt like he was barely on the record at all, and tensions between Dave and Taylor were flaring up because of Dave's brief stint drumming for QOTSA. They shelved the record for a time, took a break, and then after a performance at Coachella that seemed to fix all the internal problems, they came back to the record and redid everything in a couple weeks at Dave's home studio in Virginia. It was a rough period for sure, I can understand why Dave doesn't like it that much.

I was just listening to a Steve Albini interview where he was sort of asked about their attitude toward Nevermind. Apparently they just didn't love the Andy Wallace mix because Albini recalled them referencing the Butch Vig mixes for Nevermind repeatedly. The impression that he got was that they really liked Butch's mixes and they were used to listening to them for literally months on end, and then they were pressured by Geffen to get the album remixed. Similarly, a few songs on In Utero were remixed at the label's insistence. It seems like being on a major label in general just didn't agree with Nirvana's (and especially Cobain's) artistic sensibilities.

I remember Faith No More hating their album Album Of The Year, which in my honest opinion was actually their best release even though not as great as The Real Thing, Angel Dust or King For A Day Fool For A Lifetime.

The Elder isn't that bad, and I wonder if it would have done better if it wasn't "Kiss". It's better than a few of the mid 80's discs they put out. Dark Light is still a great song though!

There is a lot of untapped potential and solid songs with Pop, half the songs are really good but the other half kinda suck. You can definitely tell it’s unfinished. However some of the covers on the deluxe edition are legitimately horrendous (looking at Happiness is a Warm Gun)

Well, if you want to connect the dots with Kurt and Omar, is Andy Wallace, the thing that baffles me, is that both albums are timeless and much of that is Andy Wallace mixes, you can listen to both albums and different playback systems and conditions, and they still sound great, it's true that it sacrificed some kind of vision or expectation that Omar and Kurt had about the sound, but to this day, it holds and it will continue holding to new generations that want to experience the music in any point of their lives.

I dont really think these artists actually hate their albums. I just think they get sick of being asked about it.

Also, artists like Nirvana hated how people associate with the album solely, not knowing their other stuff. Same with Radiohead.

Some of these artists were right to hate their albums. Weezer was dead wrong. They confused popularity with quality. Pinkerton is a masterpiece, and time has borne that out. I am glad that Rivers has come around, but it would have been nice if he'd had the courage of his convictions back then. If he had, post-Pinkerton albums might have been a lot better than they ended up being. He basically neutered his own music.

I don't like the Blink 182 self titled album from 2004. Half the songs kinda suck and the other half are just below par. I wonder what the band thinks of it. At the time they made that album they were infighting and you can feel it in the record; it feels awkward and miserable and the production is a bit haphazard. However I do think they nailed the new, darker sound they were going for on Neighbourhoods in 2011.

Okay, I have one: Iron Maiden's debut studio album of the same name, the motherf___ing crown jewel of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, one of the greatest debut albums ever, and one of the most important landmarks in the history of heavy metal. In an interview from "The History of Iron Maiden - Part 1: The Early Years" with Steve Harris, the band's founder and legendary bass guitarist, he states that he really dislikes the production on the album and that it held back what was otherwise a great record. It's clear that the production of "Iron Maiden" was low fidelity, typical of NWOBHM releases, and especially compared to the rest of the discography. "Killers", the follow-up album, is retrospectively considered to be a superior record by many (including myself) because it was the first album to have Maiden's iconic sound as captured by the legendary production of Martin Birch (rock in peace, we miss you). However, most Maiden fans, including myself and my dad, consider the first album to be an excellent record given the circumstances.

'Pop' by 'U2' is when the band's music started to really go downhill. I used to really like U2 about 6 years ago, but just went off their music completely. I cannot stand Bono, just like Gene Simmons he's very full of himself.

"It's Hard" is better than "Face Dances" and "Pop" is a good album with a few clunkers on it. "Let it Be" by The Replacements is a classic.

One By One is the only Foo Fighters album that doesn't completely bore me half to death. I can't understand how he's proud of anything else that followed. I only really enjoy Dave Grohls drum work, for Nirvana, of course, and when he did the drums on Songs For The Deaf for Queens of the Stone Age. Foo Fighters are dull as hell.

I’m so sure Cobain hated Nevermind with all the millions he made from it. He was trying to be all angsty and I hate everything because I’m so miserable and have all the money I’ll ever need to feed my heroin addiction. I’ll bet he killed him self more because of being an addict rather than being miserable. Every song sounds exactly the same 4 chords, maybe 5 wand out of tune because it sounded “cool” and against the grain.

man, and I fcking love it when people are like "no, you don't understand genius, he's genius because he didn't follow the rules and made music he wanted to make", yea dude he SUUUUUUUUURE is an innovater who went against the mainstream and do what he wanted to do, I mean he did go against the expectation, since I was expecting some actually good songs because of the hype, fcking terrible

I think Kurt's comparison to Motley Crue was more based on the production and sound of the album sonically, not necessarily the songs themselves or compositionally.
