All The Small Things? Crawling? Kid A? I don't agree with you, but I respect your bravery.
@miserirken4 жыл бұрын
All the Small Things: Yeah this song might be dumb simple and by the numbers, but that's exactly why i like it, it's so dumb i can't help but love it. Crawling: This song is way too special for me, but even ignoring that, there's a lot going on in Crawling instrumentally speaking, like if you're a musician you'd apreciate its composition. People usually judge it for its lyrics (and even that, a lot of people can relate to them) and overexposure (and that's not the song's fault). Kid A: Yeah, it's a weird ass track for sure, but that's exactly the kind of shit i expect from Radiohead. It's hard to digest but when it's finally click on you, you come in term with it. It's weird yet not bad per se, quite the opposite.
@michaelanderson64844 жыл бұрын
@@miserirken I agree with you and the post before. Maybe I'm weird, but I like to shuffle my music library, and I have found unique merit behind each song I listen to. I can't remember the last time I sat down and listened to an entire album from beginning to end. Ever since the days of iTunes, Pandora, and Spotify, it has not been necessary to purchase an entire album to enjoy good music. Perhaps this guy has a slightly outdated (but not necessarily less valid) method of consuming music that leads to different conclusions. I don't know. The Downward Spiral is a concept album about a man driven to self destruction by all kinds of thing (disdain for authority, sexual frustration, rejection, ect.). Big Man With a Gun is a major climax in the narritive. It's ugly and difficult to listen to, and that's probobly intentional. I like Blink's more experimental, dynamic type of songs that aren't too radio - ready, like Always, Stockholm Syndrome, Feeling This, Down, Stay Together for the Kids, The Rock Show, I Miss You, etc.

I admire depressing, dark, gothic imagery, story - telling, and outlooks of life, as well. There's something about it that entices me. Probably because it brings out more artistry and edge than when talking about light. And this is coming from a Christian.

"Crawling" does have some cringey lyrics on it, but I've honestly never considered LP's lyrics to be amazing (I personally find the first verse of "Leave Out All The Rest" to be really, really lame, but I still love it musically). However, even though the lyrics are the same, its remix on Reanimation, "KRWLNG" is AMAZING. It's a symphonic remix and the choruses aren't screams, with some nice harmonies on them.

I definitely commend you for your opinion on Crawling. As I grew up, I, too, was interested why this was the second biggest song off HT. My guess is the simplicity of it made it more easily relatable to the public at the time and, of course, the raw emotion you can clearly see Chester giving to the song. I don't think it's bad by any stretch nor does it interrupt the flow of the album (not any more than your typical ballad on a rock album), but I do agree Points of Authority, One Step Closer, Place for My Head, Forgotten, Papercut, and most other songs on the album are better by comparison.

Pea from One Hot Minute by RHCP (One of their best albums). It's a novelty song, which doesn't really fit on an album which for the part is taking itself very seriously with songs like Warped, Aeroplane, Shallow be thy Game, along with Deep Kick. And Flea also sounds pretty awful on the song as well. OHM could've done without it.
@trevormoffat40544 жыл бұрын
100% agree on this. I don’t know why One Hot Minute gets so much hate, it has some great tracks, and it’s much better than some of the later Chilli Peppers albums.
@1mlb7044 жыл бұрын
Oh definitely. A lot of people hate on One Hot Minute because it's the album after John Frusciante left (the first time), and I prefer him on guitar for RHCP but I like the extra bit of edge Dave Navarro brought for that album, lots of great songs. Pea is NOT one of them, good god what a stupid song lol.

Revolution 9 is arguably one of the most influential tracks The Beatles ever produced, in terms of studio fuckery. Rarely had anyone heard that sort of experimentation before, and to expose that to the masses, rather than niche underground 60's counter-culture, I think was a huge deal. The track alone has influenced Avant-garde and experimental musicians and artists.

and It sounds great when ripped on lsd. but yeah, it is definitely art. this was the days before samples, everything had to be spliced on tape. not everyone's cup of (mushroom) tea and I would often skip it when listening as a teen (except for previously mentioned pharmaceuticals). As was said, sound collages and tape experiments were far from "rare" back in '68. However, they were mostly limited to "classical" composers and other academic artists like Luigi Nono and Stockhausen. The remarkable thing about Revolution 9 is that it's done by pop artists, and you can hear the pop sensibilities in that track: it's far more narrative, dynamic, intense and also _humourous_ than "classical" tape experiments tended to be back then. Also, it's good to remember that, even though Lennon was largely responsible for putting the track in the album, all of the Beatles were into this kind of stuff. From Paul McCartney's accounts, _Carnival of Light_ was even more bonkers. If you wanna hear some really boring and unimpressive "avantgarde", listen to _Two Virgins_ by John and Yoko. I think that album deserves all the critique that Revolution 9 (unfairly) gets. P.S.: saying that Revolution 9 is the result of drugs is so fucking normie.

First off, I think All The Small Things is a solid tune, not my favorite but at least better than The Party Song. Second, although I love Filter I will agree there are cringey Richard Patrick moments even in their best albums, but I think Cancer is a decent track, a little weird but I like how the vocals sound. To me it's better than Captain Bligh or Miss Blue, maybe even Welcome to the Fold. Finally... I love Crawling, yeah it's kind of a cliche nu metal song but it's powerful, and nicely utilizes the quiet verse loud chorus approach. High school era me identifies strongly with that tune.

In defense of "No Friend": I think it works well in the setup of the album, specifically with the other two end tracks "Idle Worship" and "Tell Me How". "Idle Worship" feels like Hayley's anger toward some of her fanbase finally breaking through the walls she set up, and "No Friend" feels like the cavalcade (spelling) of emotions rushing through the break. Once that nightmarish rush of all the dark emotions is over, it leads into "Tell Me How", which feels like Hayley is exhausted to the point of "tell me how to feel now". Does "No Friend" work on its own? Not at all. However, it never felt designed that way.

My List: 1. Starset - "Waking Up" (Divisions): I get what Starset was going for on this track, but I don't think they quite nailed the atmospheric "vaporwave rock" vibe on it. It's kind of bland and boring, feels almost like filler. 2. Haken - "Red Giant" (Affinity): Just...huh? I have no clue with what Haken was trying to do here. And the audio-clipping on Ray Hearne's snare drum gets pretty annoying after a while. 3. Circus Maximus - "Havoc" (Havoc): Although Havoc has certainly grown on me over time, I still can't get into the title track. Even in context with the whole album, this attempt at aping late 90s industrial metal feels very out of place when all the other songs are more meditative and atmospheric. 4. Stratovarius - "Mother Gaia" (Infinite): Stratovarius attempts a "November Rain"-style power ballad that pushes the 8-minute mark... and it gets really tedious, really fast. Perhaps if this song had been cut down by at least 3 minutes it could have been remotely passable. 5. Nightwish - "Wish I Had an Angel" (Once): I know I will get A TON of hate for this, but hear me out: Once is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. But I've always felt like "Wish I Had an Angel" sticks out way too much like a sore thumb. It's an awkwardly jarring 4 minutes of chugga-chugga guitar riffs sandwiched between two sweeping symphonic metal tracks. It doesn't flow well with the rest of the album, which is otherwise near flawless, at all.
