I still think No One Else by Weezer is the worst song on the Blue Album. I like the instrumental, but those lyrics... they make me cringe so hard I almost stop listening to the rest of the album.

Make Believe-Korn (Untouchables) Sign of the Times-Three Days Grace (Transit of Venus) Sure Feels Right-Sixx AM (This is Gonna Hurt) Dead City Radio and the New Gods of Supertown-Rob Zombie (Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor) Warrior-Disturbed (Asylum) I don't hate that track. It just seems more like a leftover from Indestructible Doing Time-Avenged Sevenfold (Hail to the King) All I Ever Wanted-Shinedown (Leave a Whisper) Given-Seether (Karma and Effect)

All The Small Things? Crawling? Kid A? I don't agree with you, but I respect your bravery.
@miserirken

All the Small Things: Yeah this song might be dumb simple and by the numbers, but that's exactly why i like it, it's so dumb i can't help but love it. Crawling: This song is way too special for me, but even ignoring that, there's a lot going on in Crawling instrumentally speaking, like if you're a musician you'd apreciate its composition. People usually judge it for its lyrics (and even that, a lot of people can relate to them) and overexposure (and that's not the song's fault). Kid A: Yeah, it's a weird ass track for sure, but that's exactly the kind of shit i expect from Radiohead. It's hard to digest but when it's finally click on you, you come in term with it. It's weird yet not bad per se, quite the opposite.

@@miserirken I agree with you and the post before. Maybe I'm weird, but I like to shuffle my music library, and I have found unique merit behind each song I listen to. I can't remember the last time I sat down and listened to an entire album from beginning to end. Ever since the days of iTunes, Pandora, and Spotify, it has not been necessary to purchase an entire album to enjoy good music. Perhaps this guy has a slightly outdated (but not necessarily less valid) method of consuming music that leads to different conclusions. I don't know. In the end, isn't beauty in the eyes of the beholder?

In defense of "No Friend": I think it works well in the setup of the album, specifically with the other two end tracks "Idle Worship" and "Tell Me How". "Idle Worship" feels like Hayley's anger toward some of her fanbase finally breaking through the walls she set up, and "No Friend" feels like the cavalcade (spelling) of emotions rushing through the break. Once that nightmarish rush of all the dark emotions is over, it leads into "Tell Me How", which feels like Hayley is exhausted to the point of "tell me how to feel now". Does "No Friend" work on its own? Not at all. However, it never felt designed that way.

The thing about all the small things, like you said it was meant to be a Poppy, Sing Along song. The really proved that point on TOYPAJ. The big Singles (Rock Show and First Date) were both written In Ten minutes each by Mark and Tom and there debatably more cheesy that All the Small Things.

Although, I respect your opinion. These are music creations recorded by the artists and as artists they understand not every song will be a hit and when you are trying to finish an album, many need to find something to add. It is also impossible to know (as an artist) which song/s will be popular and it's usually songs that the band hates or least liked. They've made their choice and their money so it's up to the listener to find their favorites.

Blue > Crawling (If you never heard Blue before it was basically the song in which the chorus for Crawling came from, And it's better IMO) I still like Crawling though. But if I HAD to pick the weakest track from Hybrid Theory it has to be between that one and One Step Closer. I would've picked Until It Breaks from Living Things though overall. Crawling really isn't a bad song, It's just weak compared to every other song on the album. Whereas Until It Breaks is EASILY the worst Linkin Park song. And it's not nearly as memorable as Crawling is. Crawling and One Step Closer are just overplayed and they are the weakest tracks off of an amazing album. They stand up well on their own, But when compared to gems like Points of Authority and Forgotten they just fall a bit flat.
@miserirken
@miserirken 4 жыл бұрын
But that's the thing about Hybrid Theory. Even its weakest tracks (Crawling, One Step Closer and Runaway imo) are strong enough by themselves, and none of 'em disrupts the flow of the album overall.

The Downward Spiral is a concept album about a man driven to self destruction by all kinds of thing (disdain for authority, sexual frustration, rejection, ect.). Big Man With a Gun is a major climax in the narritive. It's ugly and difficult to listen to, and that's probobly intentional. Taking that part away is like cutting the chestburster scene out of Alien.

To me it's better than Captain Bligh or Miss Blue, maybe even Welcome to the Fold. Finally... The track alone has influenced Avant-garde and experimental musicians and artists.

As was said, sound collages and tape experiments were far from "rare" back in '68. However, they were mostly limited to "classical" composers and other academic artists like Luigi Nono and Stockhausen. The remarkable thing about Revolution 9 is that it's done by pop artists, and you can hear the pop sensibilities in that track: it's far more narrative, dynamic, intense and also _humourous_ than "classical" tape experiments tended to be back then. Also, it's good to remember that, even though Lennon was largely responsible for putting the track in the album, all of the Beatles were into this kind of stuff. From Paul McCartney's accounts, _Carnival of Light_ was even more bonkers. If you wanna hear some really boring and unimpressive "avantgarde", listen to _Two Virgins_ by John and Yoko. I think that album deserves all the critique that Revolution 9 (unfairly) gets. P.S.: saying that Revolution 9 is the result of drugs is so fucking normie.

I feel that a decent chunk of Richard Patrick's lyrics don't flow all that well, but he's still an awesome composer and performer (although his voice nowadays is shot). I like how the vocals sound on Cancer, it's a decent track on an otherwise excellent album.

I agree that cancer is an underrated song. When the song goes uptempo towards the end, I consider that a dynamic master stroke, and Darcy’s vocals give it a unique atmosphere. Not a low point on the album, but an underrated number whose dynamic contrasts eventually grow on you.

I like the song too, there are worse tracks off Title of Record and all of The Aumulent imo

My List: 1. Starset - "Waking Up" (Divisions): I get what Starset was going for on this track, but I don't think they quite nailed the atmospheric "vaporwave rock" vibe on it. It's kind of bland and boring, feels almost like filler. 2. Haken - "Red Giant" (Affinity): Just...huh? I have no clue with what Haken was trying to do here. And the audio-clipping on Ray Hearne's snare drum gets pretty annoying after a while. 3. Circus Maximus - "Havoc" (Havoc): Although Havoc has certainly grown on me over time, I still can't get into the title track. Even in context with the whole album, this attempt at aping late 90s industrial metal feels very out of place when all the other songs are more meditative and atmospheric. 4. Stratovarius - "Mother Gaia" (Infinite): Stratovarius attempts a "November Rain"-style power ballad that pushes the 8-minute mark... and it gets really tedious, really fast. Perhaps if this song had been cut down by at least 3 minutes it could have been remotely passable. 5. Nightwish - "Wish I Had an Angel" (Once): I know I will get A TON of hate for this, but hear me out: Once is one of my top 5 favorite albums of all time. But I've always felt like "Wish I Had an Angel" sticks out way too much like a sore thumb. It's an awkwardly jarring 4 minutes of chugga-chugga guitar riffs sandwiched between two sweeping symphonic metal tracks. It doesn't flow well with the rest of the album, which is otherwise near flawless, at all.

I have to disagree about Crawling. Maybe the lyrics are somewhat clichéd but Chester's voice is so strong on the chorus

I'm a major Tool fan, but if I'm being honest here... "Cesaro Summability". I know it's more of a segue track than an actual song, but if "Revolution 9" was fair game, this one is too. Love Ænima as an album, but I could do without the baby screeching in my ear.

(-) Ions, my guy. If Revolution 9 can be here, (-) Ions would be my pick. Four minutes of electric noises...I’d rather have the loud baby from Cesaro Summability

I love Linkin Park even more now than I did in middle school. I discovered about a decade ago that Crawling was actually the worst song on the album and I have grown accustomed to skipping it consistently and leaving it off of my LP playlist. I’ve had arguments with friends about it, so I’m glad I’m not the only one. Also, I was expecting Escape from Metallica’s “Ride the Lightning” to make the list. I don’t mind it but it sounds like a completely different band and the band has gone on record saying they hate the track.

I usually skip Revolution 9 and yeah it's a fever dream, however i think that this is still an important song, i'd much rather listen to it than Good Night, and the fact that they closed the album with that

I was expecting to see Treefingers on the Kid A section, hah. I have to agree about Revolution 9. I've been a Beatles fan over half my life, but let's face it it's self indulgent wankery. The only reason, for me in any context it works is as a snapshot of that time period of the band with this giant pot of experimental music. I think it would have been better & fairer to let George have another song on the album in its place. Another one to add could be The Clash's Sandinista. That one is a triple album with more than a couple curable moments. Again, it's a snapshot of a band experimenting but the new version of Career Opportunities should be cut. I'll say though that kudos to the band for releasing a triple album at the price of a single album. How many bands would ever do that.

I'm gunna say it. "Enter Sandman" is an *awful* song that stole the light of Metallica's much more deserving songs and was a progenitor of butt rock.

Ahaha. I agree, but I actually think Sandman is a good song (even though I’m sick of hearing it). It just shouldn’t have been a Metallica song.

In defence of Crawling, it's a softspot for me: it's the first Linkin' Park song I ever heard at 13. I still feel like it holds up as the lyrics are...immature but the powerful presentation and performance of it was what made it a hit and a classic.

Disagree on Kid A. Revolution 9 at one point scared me to death. Crawling is still good only to be ruined by the OML version (yes that sucked, don't @ me).
