I show you each stage of trace, and give you the recipe I use. I over used my stick blender so I could show you what happens.

Hi Tina. Thank you for sharing all the information on soap making. Just a quick question. You mentioned that it's best to make your soap at 100 degree. What about lower than 100 degree, can it still be done?

I am curious about the recipe, however being new to soap making the base oils that where given are in percentages, how do I convert them to ounces? I really want to try making it, thank you so much!

can you mix your lye with aloe vera rather than water?
@TinaMoenck
@TinaMoenck 2 жыл бұрын
If it's mostly water, yes. You'd want to freeze it into cubes and add lye slowly. Or you could add a few ounces after trace, but just deduct the aloe amount from the water you mix the lye in.

Hi hallo Tina Thanks for your videos. I saw you were covering your soap with a kind of dish cloth. Do you put blankets over it too? How warm must it be kept for how lang? Please let me know,

I tried making soap through cold-process by stirring (without a stick blender). I managed only about 20 minutes (not 1 hour as I am suppose to do) before I gave up and kept the pot aside while covering it with a plastic wrap. It's two weeks later and the mixture has solidified. Is this solid stuff considered soap and is it safe to use?

How is your soap doing? Were you able to cut it? I would imagine if it took two weeks to solidify enough for you to cut it then (I can't tell you if it was safe to use) then I can tell you two things and maybe both of them happened at the same time. You don't always have to have a stick blender! Shocking I know but this is true. But for that to happen you need two things to happen. First, you use very low water. The least amount of water you can use is a 50/50 lye water ratio. If you have 3 oz of lye then you must use at least 3 oz of water. This is not always advisable because the edges and bottom of the soap may be crusty and a little white. It will make you suspicious of your soap. Its happened to me. Didn't zap my tongue though so it was ok. It just didn't cut very well. Using 1.1 x lye amount = water amount works much better and won't leave crusty soap. The second thing that you could also do is use oils that saponify quickly like shea butter.With the exception of castor oil harder oils tend to saponify faster then softer oils. For example: 85% Olive pomace oil and 15% Shea will saponify reasonable well in that time frame and you will get a trace just by using a whisk and low water. I have a plastic (toy?) push stick blender that I sometimes use only and I never touch my stick blender. So, yes you can get trace by being selective on your oils and using less water. It sounds to me like you used a lot of water maybe even too little lye and you might have even used Olive oil which certain types take forever to get to a trace. If that was your case I can see it taking two weeks.

Hello, I input this recipe into Soap Calc and it is telling me I need to add 9.7% more oils. What am I missing? Thank you!

You put the oil amounts into soap calc, it'll give you the lye and water amounts. Water amounts will vary between calculators. On soap calc you can pick your water percentage.

What about TD, also no stick blend?

Oana Bibaoui I don't use TD, but I mention that in my beginner mixing colors video. You can only whisk soap, but it'll take quite a while to to get there.
