HA! I loved the beginning of this video. Here's a story you will appreciate. A bunch of us were sitting around a table in a restaurant and the waiter said "Which one of you lovely ladies is wearing PATCHOULIE?" And it was one of the guys. LOLOL What happens in the pool, stays in the pool! Radio Ethiopia, Excellent! Ain't it Strange was a favorite of mine! SO many great things! Station to Station is a very fave of mine too. Great Ramones! Just when I was seeing them at CBGB's!

Seeing The Ramones at CBGB's is so cool. Seeing anyone at CBGB's in the 70's is cool. I think the first time I saw The Ramones was in 80. I failed to mention that I approached Linda while wearing the black leather jock strap. I guess it was implied. I guess you could say Linda wasn't looking for the mild-mannered type.

I know the guy that promoted the first ever Blondie gig in the UK (well, I say I know him, I haven't seen him for about 20 years). He's an ex anarcho-punk-performance poet turned children's author from Bradford, called Nick Toczek. Thanks for the unusual channel shout-out.

all really nice picks, what has surprised me was how much great music came out of the seventies,i have always believed the 60s music the best, but as you have pointed out with your picks, what was i thinking 70,s rocked i mean ive seen those bands ,bought the records but now i realize how great they were,i mean B.marley and Ramones alone could have conquered all,i was i believe at that roxy ramones show🤔and jonathan richman was and remains an artist like no other, just perfect in his early career ,when he performed he just would take over a club with his smaller sound,he was a roadie early on for velvet underground and he crafted his sound around theres,i believe, but whatever he was a small giant, his song velvet underground, explains their sound and as an extension his own--ok im going on and on -point im trying to make is your videos have me rethinking my whole approach to early and mid 70s music, thanks so much-Cheers👍

@@vinylrichie007 agree, but you make a great case for 70,s,now as the 70s roll on it all changes again,i equate the late 60s to the mid to late 50s when r n roll was wild, then by mid 70s as in late 50s the sounds and artists became more defined in what they were doing and more refined,im not saying better but the music scene itself calmed down and artists like Bowie and Marley could just make great music, without the psych and anti this and that scene that was happening in culture and life. take care always.great picks,i also remember joni mitchell getting into jazz and especially charles mingus, and i had no clue, now im a huge mingus and jazz fan.

Nice list , Richie. ‘76 was a great year for music and a sign of things to come in this great new scene. I saw the Patti Smith Group accidentally at 15 on the Radio Ethiopia tour at the Tower in Philly as they opened for my fave band at the time, Sparks on their Big Beat tour. I snuck in my portable cassette recorder to record Sparks but decided to record PSG as well. @@vinylrichie007 I can easily see why you didn't care for "Blue Moves." I didn't like it when it came out but it has grown on me. Probably Elton's most mature and progressive record. The last great Elton record in my opinion. George Michael (in his later, more mature jazzy phase) championed a few of the tracks which helped with both my own and the cultural reassessment of the album. It has some weak cuts as most double albums do but the stand-outs like "One Horse Town," "Chameleon," "Crazy Water," "Idol," "Cage The Songbird," "Tonight" and plenty of others are so strong that they cancel out a few losers like "Boogie Pilgrim" in my mind. Glad to hear that you like earlier Terry Reid also. He was one of those guys like John Martyn that deserved to get a lot more attention in the states. "Station To Station" would almost make my cut for best of '76. Fantastic album. "Trick Of The Tail" from Genesis also almost makes the top 10 for me. Rich, I just found you on your 1975 Ten Best Albums and want to thank you for your high regard for Art Garfunkel's Breakaway, which I considered a recommendation. After checking it out and buying it, it's becoming a favorite of mine too. It's great, really captures the laid back, mellow (So Cal) 70s sound and a pleasure to listen to. I disagree with you on Disney Girls, I love Art's cover of this Beach Boy song, I think it's as good as anything on the album and adds to a nostalgic vibe. My 1976 list really differs from yours, we can agree on the Pretender but after that . . . I do dig older mono records, but didn't understand folding the Ramones down to mono, so I never bit on it. Love the album though, great pick for #1. Yo Rich, I'm a bit behind your top 10 series but catching up now. What I like to do is flick between your countdown and Discogs to see what bargains I could maybe snare shipped soley from within Mexico, and today I found the Jackson Browne album for a paltry 3 bucks so it's on its way, never heard it, so looking forward! Cheers for that! Re. your countdowns, I really appreciate you including such a broad spread of different types of music, considering that your first and foremost a punk (I guess)...for example, you often "shoehorn" (my word, I know, I know), Joanie in there, as you did here....alongside other stalwarts from other generes...and this is why I enjoy your lists, because I just cant guess what's coming next, and more often than not its an outlier/curveball...or whatever....so today I did my usual QuikPred b4 watching and confidently decided today's number 1 pop pickers would be Blood On The Tracks...yet it's nowhere to be seen at all. Saint Joanie makes the cut? Yet not arguably Bob's best? Discuss! Ps. I thought Stones' Black & Blue just might squeeze in, but not too surprised it's not, although its an album I learned to love all over again during lockdown. Cheers mate.

To be honest I haven't heard Calling Card. I quit listening to Rory after 74. I really like his first three or four solo albums and the first self-titled Taste album. Patti Smith is overrated. I feel a lot of people claim to like her because pretentious knobs will look down on them if they say they don't. I'm not saying she's horrible, i'm just saying she is nowhere near as good as some doofus' claim she is. Also, I've never heard anyone play her music loud or reference a song of hers that isn't a cover or a song with a provocative title like "Rock n Roll N-Word" because using the N-Word makes her so punk to posers. Patti Smith can't sniff Joan Jett's panty's music wise. Real life is a different story.
