I love Stargazer and Light in the Black....Dio considered them both "shit".....excuses for endless drumming and guitar extensions and not real songs....about 6:55 into this interview. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmGUk2qVjNJopJY
@seabud64084 жыл бұрын
Larry Nolletti I’ve only heard him say light in the Black was shit. Dio became very bitter after being fired from Rainbow. I personally believe Blackmore’s version of events. Their relationship effectively ended when Dio and his wife accused Ritchie of promoting himself above his “partnership” with Dio as co- leaders of the band. This was after a trip to America where Ritchie posed for a cover of a magazine, alone. Dio and Wendy, after kicking Ritchie to get his attention (he had his back to him) proceeded to accuse him of self promotion. Interestingly a guitarist in Dio ( the band Dio) said that Dio promised him writing royalties after they made their 3rd album. He reckoned Dio was too afraid of Wendy to tell her what he’d promised and it never happened and he left the band. Adds some credibility to Blackmore’s account of Dio and his wife/manager.

Sad Wings of Destiny- Judas Priest The album that started it all! Most people say it's Sabbath, but for me it's Priest. While Sabbath's music deeply rooted in blues, Judas Priest used mostly all ingredients of heavy metal sound on this album. Screaming vocals, hard hitting riffs and ripping leads, it' all here! Also it has a different and almost Queen-like flavour because of songs like Prelude and Epitaph. An album from Brazil: Elis Regina - FALSO BRILHANTE. This is not from a traditional rock singer, but it's the most "rock album" she released. For many, the best brazilian female singer ever. Like Hendrix, Morrison and Joplin, she died young (37 y.o., 1982) because of a hard drugs and alcohol addiction. Ten years ago, I would choose KANSAS - Leftoverture. I think nowadays I prefer POINT OF KNOW RETURN... Now my last decision was between and Gentle Giant - INTERVIEW and Weather Report - BLACK MARKET. I stay with this last one, my feelings in the last years are more directed to fusion.

Despite another classic year for albums it is easy for me. Not only favourite for this year but one of my personal all time favourites : 'Wings Over America'. McCartney at his very best vocally displaying the full range of his talents from soft acoustic numbers to all the rock show stuff and an amazing hard rock climax on the last few numbers. His driving bass guitar is right to the fore on many tracks and add on Denny Laine's impressive contributions. The super enhanced definitive versions of many of their best album tracks and singles are here. Such an exciting live album and not sure McCartney has ever done anything to exceed this

Keep up the great work. Let me jump in here and make a prediction for 1977. I think you will go with ELP Work, vol 1.

Kudos on the channel. Great to see 'this is my favorite because' rather than 'this is the best, you're wrong'. I can't split Boston & Thin Lizzy Jailbreak. Boston sounds amazing through a set of headphones to this day and Jailbreak's stories and playing are superb. Am I the only one who can hear Megadeth in the song 'Warrior'? My dad had these on vinyl and I wore them out as a kid so they remind me of him and that innocent time also. Looking forward to the continued trip down memory lane, cheers!

Gary Wright - Dream Weaver 2. Rainbow - Rising 3. BOC - Agents of Fortune 4. Aerosmith - Rocks 5. Zeppelin - Song Remains the Same 6. Lynyrd Skynyrd - One More from the Road 7. Zeppelin - Presence 8. Genesis - Trick of the Tail 9. Rush - 2112 10. Deep Purple - Made in Europe Others: Boston; Eagles - Hotel California; Kansas - Leftoverture; Steve Miller - Fly Like an Eagle; - Bad Co. - Run with the Pack; Frampton Comes Alive; Doobies - Takin' it to the Streets So much great music that year!

Hi everyone, 1976 and my number one pick is by my joint winner of artist/band of the 70's ( the other winner is David Bowie) and this album means departure, migration or exodus depending on what dictionary you use. The band's playing is exquisite and the artist does what the artist does best. Lyrics providing profound emotion and heartbreakingly bitter-sweet feelings that pull at your soul. My number 1 pick is Hejira by Joni Mitchell. 1. Hejira - - - Joni Mitchell 2. Station To Station - - - David Bowie 3.Presence - - - Led Zeppelin 4. Songs In The Key Of Life - - - Stevie Wonder 5. A Trick Of The Tail. - - - Genesis 6. Silk Degrees - - - Boz Scaggs 7. Desire - - - Bob Dylan 8 2112 - - - Rush 9. Rastaman Vibration - - - Bob Marley And The Wailers 10. Boston. - - - Boston Honourable Mentions Moon madness - - - Camel Jailbreak - - - Thin Lizzy Wired - - - Jeff Beck Rocks - - - Aerosmith School Days - - - Stanley Clarke Agents Of Fortune - - - Blue Oyster Cult. Next 1977 the year Punk burst on the scene to blow the dinosaurs away. Sometimes I get so lonely. Stay safe Love And Peace.

Number one for me by a large margin is Stevie Wonder's Songs in the Key of Life. Fantastic double album of deeply-felt and varied ear candy. Number two for me is from a band I used to hate because of being overly-focused on their recent manure - Aerosmith Rocks. It does rock. Amazing that the same band who recorded Pump could make something this gritty, raw, and fun. 3. Joni Mitchell - Hejira - To me her last clear masterpiece, with Jaco playing a huge role on the sound of the album. 4. Led Zeppelin - Presence. To me, "Achilles's Last Stand" holds up to anything else they've ever done. Perhaps I like this album so much because it hasn't been as overplayed as pretty much the rest of their career. 5. Judas Priest - Sad Wings of Destiny - Ground zero for the modern era of heavy metal. "Victim of Changes." Nuff said. 6. Boston - Boston. Yeah, I'd pretty much agree with Pete here. Heard every song to death and they're still not dead. That burnished modern sound just never gets old. 7. Steve Hackett - Voyage of the Acolyte. Yes, I have to put this over Trick of the Tail because it puts his sonic wizardry to the forefront. Rainbow Rising is a case of recency nerfing my familiarity and depth of appreciation. We'll see where I rank it when I've gotten to know the album better.

This one will be unique, in that I have a hard time choosing between two albums: Queen's A Day At The Races, and Magma's Udu Wudu. It's a tie for my top pick. Some of the many HM's I have: *Stevie Wonder* - Songs In The Key Of Life (What else needs to be said? His magnum opus.) *Barry Manilow* - This One's For You (My favorite from Barry.) *Warren Zevon* - S/T (Four words: Desperados Under The Eaves.) *Boston* - S/T (Perfection.) *Return To Forever* - Romantic Warrior (Sweet...) *Gentle Giant* - In'terview (Underrated.) *Genesis* - Wind & Wuthering (I prefer this slightly over AToTT, released earlier the same year.) *Steely Dan* - The Royal Scam (My favorite Dan album.) And I agree: as much as I love Leftoverture, I myself like Boston's s/t debut just a tad more.

1976 Top Favorites The Royal Scam Steely Dan Runner Ups = 3 way tie - Rainbow Rising/StationToStation-Bowie/TomPetty&Heartbreakers Agonizing. Easily could have been 6 way tie or more. Splitting hairs to the point where this felt like work. Not sure how many albums I looked at from last night into this morning but an insane amount. Bypassing HonMents. - you guys have me covered pretty much in that dept. and if I do 5 I’ll have to do 55|| so instead suggesting: Not so obvious/semi-obscure albums from 1976 that are worth checking out (a great year for fusion albums) Stratosfere - Tangerine Dream (others have mentioned this band prev. but this is the only one I am familiar with) 3:47 EST - Klaatu; Look Out for #1 - Brothers Johnson; Troubador - JJ Cale; Land of the Midnight Sun - Al DiMeola (not nec. obscure but good change-up from straight on rock and roll); Chicken Skin Music - Ry Cooder; Go - Stomu Yamashta (someone else here referenced this also); Mother’s Finest (Funk that Rocks!); All American Alien Boy - Ian Hunter (Hit or miss, some great vocals, but NOT Mott!); Cry Tough - Nils Lofgren; Les Dudek 1st... = Like Nils L, he played on many big time albums. It’s been a while but had a favorable opinion of both albums back then. Lastly, Stanley Clarke’s School Days is a Must Have. I know it’s well known now but it spent a long time in relative obscurity.
