Sorry about missing this! I never got a notification for this omg :( Well, probably because it's not as great a product as something like the Exped. Mine personally came with holes 😱 But I sorted that out with REI directly.

Appreciate you sharing and also for watching the entire video, that means a lot and really helps the channel, so thank you! :) I'm really happy that I could help make your decision a little easier, and I'm glad you liked the details! Thank you, Thank you for all your incredible devoted work on these camping guidanceS. Wow, this makes me want to start camping again!!! Your insightful and very detailed reviews of all kinds of equipment are outstanding. I am in my senior years, hence I have more aches and pains when I have gone camping in the past. I use to have no problem backpacking and sleeping with minimal padding right on the ground and set up with ease. As I got older it was not as easy to camp anymore with out physically feeling exhausted or more aches and paind. However, I am very excited to start up camping again based on your quidance videos for camping equipment. Your detailed explanations and plus’s and minus for each specific product definitely narrows down for me what equipment will suit me and be the best right at the start. Being on a fixed income I do not have the option to buy different types of equipment if the first one ends up not working well for me. Have to best appropriate equipment such as a sleeping pad, the right size tent, ease of setup with good use arrangements interior, waterproof, well made with good ventilation, affordable would definitely make the difference right away when starting to camp again. I have some great hiking and camp boots already. Whether I do it alone or with other people I want to be comfortable enough so I do not become a burden to others, especially if I wouldnt have the right equipment and would become l physically less able to participate my camping duties. The time, your effort and the cost you put in to all your various videos are exquisite. The facts you point out, your charts and the break down in each factor besides the cost issue are phenomenal. I agree with what someone else said they believe you ought to have a heck of a lot more subscribers and viewers. I will definitely use your link when I decide what equipment to purchase so you get some kickback from the sale. When I was younger I backpack (literally everything we needed we carried in on our backs for 3 weeks in the wilderness in Washington State. Another time the same situation in the Porcupine Mtns in Michigan for 10 days. Other occasions I lived in a self made wigwam on a wilderness island on the Great Lakes for a couple weeks each summer through a few years. Even car camping ocassionally too. Now I know with all the upgraded technology changes in gear and with the right gear I at least ought to be able to do some car camping to sites for camping out again in nature where my bones won´t have to be creaking and moaning if I choose the right gear now. The days of actual backpacking everything are long gone but you helped me realize I can get back out there despite some physical limitations and using the right equipment. Keep up the great videos.

Thank you so much for sharing with me your stories and experiences Cathy! I really enjoyed reading your lovely comment! Thank you for taking the time to write it, I really appreciate it 😊 I'm really glad that you liked the video, review and details, it makes all the time and effort that I put into this video worth it 😊 Ah I see, I'm so sorry to hear about the aches and pains while camping. In that case you might wanna get an additional cot to get you higher off the ground so that it's not too much of a pain when getting out of bed in the morning. And go for something comfy! Hopefully that'll reduce your aches and pains. And don't worry about not having the option to buy different types of equipment, I think a lot of retailers do allow returns if you find the product doesn't work for you 😊 Also, feel free to let me know what you're looking for in a camping mat, and let's figure something out together 😊 And thank you so much in advance for using my link, that definitely goes a long way to helping me recover my costs for sure! Wow your backpacking adventures sure sound amazing! I've done much more camping than backpacking, but your adventures make me wanna go backpacking more! And you can definitely get back out there despite the physical limitations for sure (with the right equipment)! Feel free to let me know if you have questions k? I'll do my best to help you 😊 Hope you're having a wonderful weekend Cathy!

@@dranek Nope so sorry I don't have any experience with those :( But a few of my viewers have reached out to me and told me that they really like it! The quality should be the same, and I think it packs away and sets up like the Teton. And it's slightly bigger in interior space too. And the packed size is rectangular. Those should be the main differences. Hope this helps anyway! 😊 Are you planning to buy that?

Nice! I have promoted your video on the r/campinggear and r/camping subreddits. I also suggest looking at the Exped Synmat HL Duo, HL Winter Duo, Synmat Duo and the Paria Recharge DW. The Paria easily wins for value at $130 and great 4 R value and the Exped HL Duo wins for weight and comfort for backpacking. For Semi inflators the Exped Megamat Duo 15 (the 15cm thick one) easily wins hands down with its R value of 10.5. The Nemo Dreamer is also quite nice. Also Klymit lies about R values. Their r values they advertise are NOT astm ratings. Their ASTM ratings are buried on each product page and are far less than their competitors. One of their pads advertises almost 5, but is actually ASTM tested at less than 2.
@CampingGuidance
@CampingGuidance 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Lakorai2, thank you for helping to promote my video, that's very nice of you to do that and I really appreciate it! Thank you so much as well for the wonderful recommendations :) I'm definitely trying my best to save up for them but that's a work in progress cos these mats are quite pricey and this video has already burnt quite a huge hole in my pocket hahaha. But rest assured that I will feature your recommendations for sure when I'm done saving up and when I update this video! I've been eyeing the Nemo Roamer for a while now (just like you suggested) and hope to get it soon to do some testing. Also, thanks for the heads up about Klymit! Unfortunately I haven't had experience with off-season camping as I only camp in the summer now, so I didn't manage to test the R-values out sadly. But that's definitely good to know, and hopefully next time I can test R-values too, and will take note of the ASTM ratings :) Really appreciate your comment and all the helpful suggestions!

This review was insanely comprehensive, you sold me on the Exped. I planned a car camping trip and I thought I wanted to buy a smaller mattress that I could sometimes bring to hikes, but the Exped looks so comfy. You made me realize it could also act as a secondary bed at home when the parents come to visit. Can't use the affiliates links because I'm in Europe though, it's not easy to get around here, I think they only sell through partner retailers

What about two Exped singles instead of a Duo for two people to minimize bouncing even more? Or two Duos for couples who like a lot of space?
@CampingGuidance
@CampingGuidance Жыл бұрын
Hi Govinda, thanks for the question! 😊 That's definitely a valid solution for sure - 2 singles or even 2 doubles haha. But I think the biggest problem here might be the price, it's actually quite a bit less expensive to buy a Duo than 2 singles.

What about the Exped Deep Sleep Duo 7.5 mattress? Have you tried that one in comparison to the Exped Megamat?
@CampingGuidance
@CampingGuidance Жыл бұрын
@T Sizzle Hey there! Thanks for your question 😊 I'm sorry I haven't tried the Exped Deep Sleep, but I think the biggest difference is the thickness. The Exped MegaMat has 4 inches of thickness, and the Deep Sleep has only 3. So I think naturally the MegaMat should be slightly more comfy than the Deep Sleep. But I have slept on self-inflating pads as thin as 1.5 inches though, and they're still pretty comfy for me, so you could go for the Deep Sleep if you wanna save a little money and don't mind the 3 inches of loft instead. I hope this helps! 😊

Hi Ellie! Thank you so much for your kind words and for the question as well 😊 Hmm I haven't come across any good sleeping pads with attached pillows. I think I know what you're referring to - are you looking at those on Amazon? I don't quite like these because the brand isn't usually good enough (so the pad wouldn't be as great too), and that also means I don't have the option of picking my own camping pillow.

@THESugarMama Thanks for the question! Hmm I don't have the Hikenture, but it looks A LOT like the REI haha. From the baffling, cushioning, and even the valves. Great reviews, however I wouldn't recommend anyone to get 2-person mattress unless he/she is sleeping alone on it. On air mattresses one will easily feel any slight movement of the other person. Better to get matts for each person + if one brakes the other will be still usable.
@CampingGuidance
@CampingGuidance 2 жыл бұрын
@Tride Thank you for your comment and suggestion! Agreed that on air mattresses, there's quite a bit of bouncing when the other person moves. And yes! Single pads put together is also another great option. But I just wanted to cover this because some people are particular about the hole down the middle of the mattress and would prefer to have a 2P mattress instead. :)

great review and much more useful than the hard core back packers as they are all about weight and put up with a lot of hardships to get weight down. i feel there may be a difference between the 2 of us on how the mattress feel to sleep on. i'm 250lb and a side sleeper. my shoulders hit the ground on many of them. for weight and portability one of the old rules was your sleep system and shelter would be most of the weight of your pack. then again they also said your pack should only be 25% of body weight and that doesn't happen much in the real world. rucking with 100-120lbs is more common.

Although I'm probably about slightly more than half your weight. Oh man I'm so sorry to hear that your shoulders hit the ground. Have you tried the Exped MegaMat? They have an even plusher one (the Max 15) and I'm pretty sure that could handle your body weight and side sleeping nicely! And which other pads did you have experience with? Are they thinner backpacking pads? 😊

Thank you for such a great video!! I am wondering have you ever tried the Stoic Cloud bed before? I can’t decide between Stoic Cloud, Klymit Double V uninsulated and ALPS bed… a lot of camper/hiker has recommended Klymit Double V, but I don’t really need that much of portability but focus more on the comfort level, both ALPS and Stoic bed are current on sale for around $80, would you recommend ALPS over the Klymit if it is slightly cheaper now? Thanks!
@CampingGuidance
@CampingGuidance 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there Mengshin! You're most welcome, and I'm glad that you enjoyed the video :) If you're looking for comfort, I think the Stoic Cloud will beat the Klymit and the Alps. I've never tried it before but the foam padding inside will give you much more comfort than the Klymit and Alps, which are both filled with air and no foam. But just bear in mind that mattresses with foam padding will have a significantly larger packed size. Between the Klymit and Alps, if you're looking for comfort, I'd go with the Alps. The thickness of the Alps (6 inches) made sure that I never touched the ground when I was sleeping at night, but for the Klymit (2.5 inches), I could sometimes feel the ground when I was tossing and turning in bed, so it's not as comfortable. There's also baffling on the Klymit that you've got to get used to, if you're not used to these Klymit pads. I hope this helps, and please feel free to let me know if you have more questions :)
@rubikclub
@rubikclub 2 жыл бұрын
@@CampingGuidance thank you so much! I got the ALPS in the end, and wondering have you tried them in colder temperatures below 40 before? As it doesn’t applied for R-value, I am not sure if it would need two more foldable foam pads to put underneath to prevent the cold :/
@CampingGuidance
@CampingGuidance 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there Mengshin! How are you finding the Alps? I hope you've been enjoying it :) I'm so sorry I haven't tried them in colder temperatures. I camp only in the summer with temperatures north of 70. I live near the equator so unfortunately there's no winter or 4 seasons for me haha. There's no insulation in air mattresses though so I'm pretty sure the air inside would be cold and you'd definitely need more insulation if you're planning on camping in colder temperatures :/

Hi Michael! Thank you so much for watching my videos 😊 I really appreciate it! Hmm for something that you'll be using 2 days a year, it's probably not a high end mattress you need. I think the Etekcity is really quite affordable, and probably one of the closest mattresses to a Queen size that I have. After using it more intensively after putting out this video, I think it's actually a pretty decent and sturdy mattress. The only biggest downside is that it's made from PVC, if that's something you don't mind, you can go ahead with it.
