The majority of these countries are incredibly good at keeping things small, controlled and efficient which is why they're so successful i.e Ireland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands etc. For everyone complaining that America isn't there, you have to take the country into account as a whole. It's too large and stretched on a worldwide scale to match the sound economies these countries can sustain.

You could make a pretty strong argument the US is number one. We still have the largest GDP, when considering the entire tax code businesses pay very low taxes. Low barriers to entry in most industries. Lot's of federal and state backed programs to help business owners succeed. A very diversified nation with many industries thriving in the US,. Still most used reserve currency in the world.
