I got the iPad Pro 13 and I definitely recommend it, I’m in love. The brightness is so good as an artist that draws outside a lot that when I went to pick up my iPhone, I thought the screen was messed up for a second. Not just that but it’s been great for content consumption and there’s a lot of new apps out there coming out with either unique concepts or rivaling the major pro programs for less. I’m really hoping Brad covers a new app I’ve been seeing called Feather 3D which basically allows you to draw and paint in 3D, it’s exclusive to iPads atm outside of the site and honestly seems like an interesting way to create backgrounds in 3D for comics or animations

@BenjaminCerbai2 күн бұрын
It depends on your needs: do you prefer mobility or a big screen? Is there an app in your workflow that works only on one system or the other? Do you work 8 hours a day on your tablet or not? The two solutions are good, depending on what you are looking for.
@Just_a_commenter2 күн бұрын
It's going to depend heavily on the things _you_ value, what downsides _you_ don't mind, and what _you_ already have. All-in-one options like Android or Apple tablets are a fantastic entry point because they're very capable devices. They often have fantastic screens with high pixel density so you can see your work clearly, solid colours that'll really pop off the screen, and higher refresh rates that can offer greater comfort... They're also portable multi-use devices, so you can get more uses out of a single purchase. On the other hand, they're going to have smaller bezels and a more limited screen size... Both of these will limit your range of motion. Additionally, depending on the device, you may need to buy extra things to start drawing with it (looking at you, Apple). If you value those pro's and the con's aren't a concern, then an all-in-one tablet could be great. For desktop tablets, you lose that portability and flexibility, but gain the opportunity to enjoy a purpose-built device for drawing; bigger displays that allow you to draw with your whole arm, not just your wrist like on a smaller display. You get bigger bezels, allowing you to actually rest your entire arm on the tablet without obscuring the screen completely. You can also opt for a tablet without a screen, allowing you to keep your head up and looking straight forward at your main monitor for a more ergonomic working position. If you have a beastly PC, you can also work with apps that either run slower on mobile hardware, have limitations on mobile hardware, or aren't even available on mobile hardware to begin with. Still, circling back to what I said before, you do lose flexibility, and you'll be anchored to a desk. Screen based tablets can be huge, offering fabulous comfort, but oh boy can they ever be expensive. More affordable tablets will also be more likely to only sport a 1080p panel, so you're going to see pixels from a distance that you wouldn't see on a higher pixel density display. Going up to 1440p will be a noticeable bump in cost, as will 4K, and the overwhelming majority of drawing displays are only 60Hz. No matter what, there's no perfect choice. Going back to what I described at the start of this comment, you need to determine what you care about and find the best option in your price range.

Awesome video brad. I will say the Huion Kamvas 19 vs the XP-Pen artist 19 im pretty sure the Huion is touch screen. May have to fact check me on it. One thing I will add here. And this is a hot take, you never reviewed it but price to performance its really good is the UGEE UE16. I grabbed it for giggles for like $180 on amazon. And the build quality is poo, but the pen performance the color range, and just overall experience blew me away. Also if you hate the pen you can use one of XP-pens pens on it not the x3 but something similar (not sure exactly which) but it makes the experience even better. Not the best thing out there by any stretch but for $180-$200 for a 16inch drawing tablet with a very underrated screen it would def be on my list.

The Huion 19 Pro has good touch on Windows. I use it all the time and it is great for sketching. The Huion pen is better than the XP-Pen with a lower IAF (initial activation force) and higher max pressure, giving it a very Wacom-like wide pressure range. With current holiday sales, the Huion is worth the higher price if you value touch or the better pen: $879 USD vs $800 USD for the XP-Pen 19.

I am not a product designer but in my opinion you might need those apps only if that is how you decide to have your workflow. You can use the Samsung tablets as plug in drawing tablets for a pc or laptop, so you get the amazing screen and pen plus propper desktop software which if you're a design student especially industrial design etc would be the way to go in my opinion. I'd get the 12" tablet though for taking as a stand alone sketch pad/light travel option, still plenty big for use as a drawing tablet. The apple stuff would work well but is just less versatile. Just my opinion.. I do a mix of product design and animation but with real world making with machines and tools, so good to have a pic to interface with 3d printers and cnc machines etc. Ultimately you'll be able to get by with whatever you end up with, one way or another.

@synraxxКүн бұрын
Many reasons, a lot of people like brighter screens for watching content and its great in direct sunlight. The 2 oled panels stacked is also more efficient since they don’t have to use as much power so it saves on battery. And another benefit is a reduced risk of burn in, since each oled panel can run at half the power as it normally would whilst maintaining the overall brightness, which is especially nice on an art device where you’ll have loads of static ui on the screen which could cause burn in issues later on. Im personally looking forward to see where this tech goes in the future.

I know that huawei is like banned to hell in the us, but if you can, could you review their more recent Huawei Matepad series of tablets like the Matepad 11.5S or the 12.2 Pro? Would like to know your thoughts on its paper matte display, it M Pen Gen 3 stylus and its own proprietary painting app kinda like Procreate called GoPaint

So it sounds like you really like the quality of Wacom, but not the price. Then you really like Huion. Does that sum things up right?

The Samsung should be at number two at the very least because it's water resistant and you can take it anywhere to draw with you go anywhere industrial system so you don't have to worry about it getting messed up at the beach if you want to go there

If you want to animate and draw, iPad is a better choice. Android tablets, such as Samsung, don't have as many animation and drawing apps as the iPad.

My new years resolution is to ban and blacklist all my 'drama' and 'outrage' social media and youtube channels and subscribe to a bunch of art focused ones. I'm gonna make my own algorithm! My midlife crisis is to get back into webcomics. :)) Anyone got any good websites or apps to read them on an iPad?

How can you use a tablet that's only as big as your hand? Yeah Nah.

I have problems with reviewers giving me price/value judgments, especially, when it comes to drawing tech. With CPUs, GPUs, etc., It's less of an issue since you can benchmark it and have quantifiable performance is worth a certain price. With art, it's a bit more subjective. Also as a hobbyist and as a professional, I've noticed that the best value in real life is not the best value on paper. I've been burned by buying what people said was a good value. Like I agree that for most people the iPad Pro is not as good a value as the iPad Air but the iPad Pro is an objectively better drawing device and for some artists, the spec bump is worth it. There are a lot of times in this list where the higher-ranked option will give an objectively worse experience but it is higher because of value. The S6 Lite is objectively not as good as the S10 Ultra. The iPad Pro is objectively better than the iPad Air. The Wacom Movink is objectively better than the Kamvas. Now whether it's worth the extra money is a personal matter. The onus of value judgment is on the consumer, not the reviewer. I find that these value-based rankings cause people to buy lesser quality stuff to save money and then when the product doesn't meet expectations it causes beginners to walk away. It even causes professionals who aren't tech savvy to not upgrade when there are good upgrades that they can afford. As a professional 3D artist, the iPad Pro 1TB is kind of the sweet spot for me especially now that Zbrush is on the iPad. Nomad was ok but Zbrush has made the iPad viable for the level of detail I want at the speed I want to achieve it. It's gotten to the point I don't carry my gaming laptop anymore. I can just grab my iPad and do most of my sculpting on there. I can even do initial texture work. I still need my desktop for rigging and final textures but I am hopeful the software for that will eventually come to iPad. Android is a non-starter. The apps aren't there. Windows on ARM is kind of in this weird place where enough of the apps I need don't run which means I don't see the point over iPadOS. Then when it comes to The drawing tablets. I have an almost 8-year-old Wacom Cintiq Pro 16 and I just don't know if it is worth upgrading. Like I went to the Wacom Store at the mall near my brother's apartment and the new stuff looks nice but it feels the same which makes it a hard sell. I can't really try the non-Wacom stuff without buying them which makes them a non-starter.
