Just got my new Seiko 5 last week, very nice looking and feels good and strong on the wrist! Not super accurate tho, mine goes about 8 seconds ahead every day
@AleksiJoensuu4 жыл бұрын
@@torsti4791 8 seconds fast is not too bad to be honest! Don't be worried. I'm wearing a swiss movement watch that's about 12 seconds a day fast right now. What I notice between lower and higher quality watches isn't necessarily accuracy in particular, but consistency. My Orient averages an amazing less than 1 second a day difference over weeks of use. It's the most accurate watch I have - in theory. The thing is, it can be -5 one day, +7 the other day and so on. My Seiko 7S26 are even more variable but still averaging pretty well - and my Vostoks are absolutely all over the place, maybe losing a minute one day and gaining another the other day. Meanwhile, for example the Hamilton I'm wearing averages around +13 seconds a day - but the thing is, it's just always between +12 and +15. I think consistency is much more indicative of value, because a watch that's between +-3 seconds every day can be regulated to run accurately and dependably, while something that's within +-15 seconds or more can't.

I was so happy to see the Timex brand mentioned in this list. Timex is really a brand I find to be very underrated. I am in the maritime industry and wear a Timex scout for years. These watches are durable and my watches must be considering everything my watch would be exposed to on the ship. Most important, Timex watches are extremely accurate and for navigation purposes that's critical to have a dependable time piece. Great video and love your channel TGV!

Great choices TGV. Just remember, it's the lug-to-lug measurement that makes watches wearable on a small wrist. The Hamilton's long lugs can make it tricky for the smaller wristed with a lug-to-lug of just over 47mm. Conversely, I'm happily wearing a 44mm wide and 48mm lug Seiko Willard 6105-8110 on my 6.5" wrist, which is a testament to fantastic case shape, hugging the wrist like nothing else, not even a modern Seiko turtle. Have you ever tried on a 6105 Tristano? You might be surprised, especially the slimmer case 6105-8000.

Back in my cottage in Nairobi I had a haul of animal trophies, but I had mounted not the heads of animals but their rear legs and tails. So that when you walked into the room it looked as if the animals were all fleeing through the walls, leaping into another dimension. I felt that it more accurately reflected the true conditions of life: That everyone ultimately must leave and where they're going not even they can be sure of. And during that safari I was fascinated by the concept of time. I had a number of wristwatches running up my arm. I had a watch on my ankle. A watch embedded into the handle of my knife. Another just beneath my compass. My belt buckle was a watch. My camera had a watch built into it. My rifle had a digital time readout. And my bearers had to carry my huge wooden pendulum grandfather's clock. Not to mention the fact that I had a five foot tall hourglass filled with the sand of the area. In this way I could get in touch with the feelings of the land by measuring its movements in time by the sifting of the indigenous sand in the giant hourglass which was welded to the landrover. I also carried a small metronome on my left shoulder. Yes, I was obsessed by time and I was fascinated by the increments. The very very small increments by which we grow old. I wrote a book of poems that I privately published called "the geology of the face" a series of very short haiku like rhymed verses that reflected on the vagaries, questions and connundrums of time. Included also were veily quartered photographs of my face over the period of six years as it aged. It came in a flipbook. You press your thumb against it and in the course of 20 seconds you'd see me go from the age of 34 to 40. -Joe Frank

I'd like to point out a couple of things about the Glycine Airman mentioned; There are actually TWO different releases of an Airman No. 1 from Glycine. One was Pre-Invicta, and the other was Post. Pre-Invicta: More of a polished case, the giveaway being the rotating 24-hour bezel and lugs. Lugs are more straight and chunky on this one. Post-Invicta: Brushed case and lugs, choice of size between 36mm and 40mm in both Purist and GMT, and Black or Silver dial. As far as I know, both of these have a Plexiglass crystal, and use Sellita based GL293 not ETA's as they used to. The Purist has no GMT hand, and will only tell 2 time zones, the local time and the rotating bezel reference time. The GMT adds a hand and allows for local time, GMT time, and another time zone. Although these are still available on eBay and some other grey market sellers, they were a limited edition, and will not be available forever new. I believe my Post-Invicta was xxxx/1000.

Just got a Seiko Monster JDM Generation 3, they're one of those items if you look at pictures, you may think meh. But when you put in on your wrist it looks and works fantastic, had to import it and got it in Jade color. Not sure if I like it better than my Orient Triton (which is for sure a better watch, but it's not like the Monster sucks). I do have two Stowa's and agree, fantastic value, one is a plain cosc certified flieger 36mm no date, no branding over 8 years old and probably should have it serviced, but still works great, it cost me about $1200 with an extra strap and paying Fedex a customs handling fee. Even though it's 36mm it does seem to wear larger. Last fall I bought a classic 40mm white with branding and some extra straps for both. You can mistake this watch for one of the marine versions. Both are automatics. My only regret is I should have bought it mechanical hand wind instead of automatic.. Oddly because of a stronger dollar, with the extra straps and Fedex custom handling fees cost me just under $1,000US. For those who think about ordering Stowa, because they only sell direct. It can take about a month to get. If I order another, might go larger, hand wind and B style. I just like their product and value. I guess when I unlaze myself, will print the form out, and send it to Stowa for servicing which seems reasonable and the company does care about their watches and customers. From what you've shown, the Glycine seems out of the 10, what I might buy in the near future and while new would be nice would not be adversed to buying pre owned late model in good condition, depending on the savings. Next May my daughter is graduating from Pharmacy school in, yes Philadelphia (Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, USiences) and basically been paying it off monthlly, already been in Govberg and plan on using them, I want new. I frequent Holts Cigar across the street. And looked at a Seamaster or Speedmaster and been saving some money here and there. I just think on the luxury end, it's hard to beat. Alternative would be a late model Rolex Explorer I. Just never been a Rolex person, and really don't want to get into price inflation. The Explorer's seem to be somewhat less price crazy. There I would go with Watchbox or Govberg (I know they're the same) just to be safe and be in a reasonable driving distance if I want to see it first, or have an issue. Bob's would be my second option. Your review was damned good. I also have a circa 1957 gold Hamilton which was given to my mother for me when I was born. It works, had it serviced by them several years ago, and might just bring it in to see what it maybe worth and I don't expect a lot. Nor would I ever sell it. Have no son's but would leave it to my first son in law when I get my first grandchild. Sorry for the long winded post.

Pros - it's a great watch for any price, let alone 100$. Cons - small power reserve , 36 hours factory spec, but probably a bit lower. Floppy crown, which is a feature, just tilt the watch slightly towards the crown and you will be good to go, no fear of rethreading the crown when winding.

Lots of great watches. There are so many! Casio makes quite a few analog and digital models in the small category! Thanks do. Much for a great review of excellent time pieces!

I just noticed the H.R. Giger "Birth Machine" print behind you. That's one of my favorite drawings of all time and I need to get one for my room someday.

Excellent video. Enjoyed Hugo.Where is Ernest? I haven’t seen that young chap lately. The war room is looking stellar. As much as I love Miles Davis, I have to go with Thunderball. Great name for a watch. Nice long video. Educational and entertaining.

I see my favorite painting on your screen back there - Nighthawks FTW! And that Stowa Marine Classic, she's a beaut! As for the Glycine, they only missed two details, and we can forgive them for forgoing the somewhat fragile hacking mechanism (fragile in the sense that an unaware watch repairman will inevitably break the thing trying to pull the stem :( ), but they really should have gone with a cross-hatched crown.

Should call the 806 the "Jim Clark". He was known to wear one.

I'm looking for a classic 38-40mm stainless steel case, white or black dial with roman markers and black leather band watch. So far I've found the Certina DS-8 and the Tissot Le Clocle. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It was covered in a different video. Used to be an audio technician I believe. Now, 100% watches working at/with watchbox?
