I test rode three bikes before making a decision, the Tiger, the VStrom, and the V85TT. I was impressed with the Tiger and liked it a lot, it was quick, light, and nimble. The VStrom was likewise light, quick, and nimble, but it just didn't make me want one after riding it. The V85TT was a bit heavier (although it carries it's weight well with a low centre of gravity), nimble, and not quite as quick as the other two with less power. I went with my heart not my head and bought the V85TT. The Travel model had almost every extra I wanted as standard fitment and it was the only one with shaft drive. The engine character sold it for me, the engine and torque is lovely and just so comfortable to ride. After 11,000 miles I'm having more fun on this bike than any other I've owned.

hi, have you had any trouble, e.g. with the shaft drive overheating or anything else? I like the V85TT very much, but honestly am a bit hesitant bc of the italian brand.
@BlokewithaBear11 ай бұрын
@@alli333o I was exactly the same, I spent almost a year trying to convince myself I shouldn’t buy it because I’d never had a twin or an Italian bike. 🙂 But the test ride had sold it to me so it was inevitable I’d give in and get it. I’ve had no problems with it and I’m really glad I bought it. Buy a 21 onwards model as they have tubeless tyres, pre 21 had tubes tyres.
@joeyshmoey851410 ай бұрын
I like the V85TT, and it was my second choice after the Tuareg 660 that I bought. I think the V85TT would be a slightly better pavement tourer, and shaft drive is wonderful. I hope to do some distance touring and to get off the beaten path, and I feel that the Tuareg can go wherever the V85TT can go, but the Tuareg has a little extra off-road capability that could make the difference in a pinch. The V85TT is attractive and has character. I could even see moving to the V85TT if I get tired of chain maintenance.

@@joeyshmoey8514 yes. chain kinda sucks. I like the guzzis but the weight of the Tuareg caught my eye. Shaft drive is probably heavy, the rear diff and all. Nice overview, you’ve shown that there are some really great bikes in this category, just depends on what you’re looking for. I spent about a year researching my next purchase, coming from an ‘08 VStrom 650. I wanted something lighter with a lower C.G., better suspension, tubeless, some electronic aides, easier air filter access (sorry, I don’t like removing the gas tank to get to the filter!) NOT needing more HP. I ended up buying a Taureg 660. apart from maybe the KTM they are still too big and heavy.... the market is missing a lot of revenue from us small guys.... for me Kove 800, lightweight and fast and with quality build....

I really wish the USA got the top end models of the Tenere 700.

I have a particular issue…I am planning to ride from Manchester to Ljubljana in May and want a bike that suitable for that…but also great for touring the area once I’m here, (I live in Ljubljana now) and will tour (2 up) Italy for the next few years…looked at GS but it lacks road feel…any suggestions?

Try the new V85tt when it comes out in April - I bet you’ll love it.

All of them are very heavy bikes. I don't know whether or not it's wet weight; if so, only 2 or 3 are acceptable as they weigh around 200-208 kg.

I chose a V-Strom 650 for it's bullet proof engine 😊

No reservations. The best balance, in all parameters, is for Tenere. As always, Yamaha is neglected, but everyone knows, inside themselves, that it is always the best of all. 🤗

I think at 200kg the newly unveiled at eicma qjmotor srt 800sx will make headlines with its 94hp and a 6 year warranty absolutely the best middleweight adventure setup of the year so far! (At least For the price it'll cost us)

Is the Africa Twin not considered middleweights? I know its 1100cc but its similar HP, weight and offroad capable to the bikers on the higher spectrum of this list

Fair comment. The AT base model weighs about the same as the VStrom ... 👌

It`s in the same class as the v-strom 1000, so - the heavy-class.

Bro what do you think about the Versys 650? I am riding a 300 tricity today, and I want to buy my first motorcycle 🏍️ Thank you 🙏

I have Versys 650 and it is a pretty good bike. I bought it new and did 10000 miles on it in the past 3 years. I usually go for long rides (400 miles a day). I guess, it would be a great first bike. If you don't want to take the depreciation hit, see if you can get a used one.

Good review but would be nice to know what kind of warranty the bike comes with as well since it's included in the price. Also shows how much confidence the manufacturer has in the bike.
