I spent 3 weeks driving around the South Island, and it was spectacular. Absolutely amazing scenery. One thing they didn't mention is Baldwin Street in Dunedin, the steepest street in the world. I walked up it and it is a struggle. If you ever do find yourself in this part of the world, I definitely recommend visiting New Zealand. You won't be disappointed.

The needle thing is called The Sky Tower and its Aucklands most iconic building. You can go up there to see the city, and theres a cafe up there. Also you can jump off it while attached to some cables (so its safe), and you can get attached to a harness and walk around it.

I grew up in Taupo in the shadow of the Tongariro National Park, It is a beautiful place to spend your childhood. I'm now living in Auckland and feel the need to let you know the people on the Auckland coast do not have the best views ..., I do, The people living on the coast pay a premium to live there but if you're willing to move out a bit you can enjoy living in the city and be completely apart from it at the same time. I live on the top of the range behind the pointy building you noticed ( It's called the Sky Tower ) I get to see the whole of the city out of my lounge and bedroom window. It's a beautiful place to wake up in the morning. I'm a very lucky person. I hope you get to visit NZ sometime. Just make sure you arrive with a few dollars in your pocket, Because if you think life is expensive in the States prepare yourself for a shock. You guys have and always will, have it easy when it comes to the cost of living. I look forward to seeing the review of your first visit here. Take care.

Hi Tonia, I live on the shore of lake Taupo between the National Park and Lake Taupo. The round building in Napier is the national aquarium of NZ, the first jump you saw that you thought is a cliff jump is actually the Taupo bungy jump, the Interislander ferry doesn't go anywhere near the Fiordland Sounds, it is the connection between the North and South Island, the conical volcano top you see in the Tongariro National Park is Mt Ngauruhoe, which was Mount Doom in the lord of the rings. A lot of movies are made over here and some like it so much over here that they move here, e.g. James Cameron, The Bay of Islands isn't any more expensive than anywhere else, other than the price of the real estate lol, American author Zane Grey loved the Bay of Islands and owned a small Island and built on it, there are horse trekking outfits all over the place catering to most levels of riding ability, and lastly, the yachts that you see on Lake Wakatipu (Queenstown) are probably either privately owned or yacht club yachts. Another NZ mountain (not in your upload) that was used in a Tom Cruise movie The Last Samurai is Mt Taranaki in the Taranaki region, and lastly, the Kaikoura coast is definitely worth a visit, especially since the uplifting of the seabed as a consequence of the magnitude 7.8 Kekerengu earthquake in November 2016

I hope to do a whale watch tour here at some point. A few years ago I took my nephew swimming with dolphins in Akaroa. Very good professional tour operators there and we lucked out. Only got in the water once and must have been 50 dolphins kept zooming around us for at least 20 minutes. It was epic. Watching them hoooon around and dart about underwater was so cool. Hi firstly it is THE North Island and THE South Island and secondly please can you explain to me why people in the USA incorrectly use the transitive “lay” instead of the intransitive “lie”. Has that become a common mistake there? I hear it on US voiced ads here and it makes my teeth hurt. “Lay means "to place something down flat," while lie means "to be in a flat position on a surface." The key difference is that lay is transitive and requires an object to act upon, and lie is intransitive, describing something moving on its own or already in position.”

The Coromandel (my back yard) should be number ONE. once you have grown up there you have no desire to go anywhere else! I wouldn't call Thames a city, it's not big enough to be classed as a City. And because of the Native bush which is Illegal to cut down, Thames can't expand up into the hills, so can never be a city (it can expand out past Kopu along SH25, but that's about it. But Hot water beach (where there was once a great Camping ground until some Super Wealthy A hole brought the land for the sole purpose of refusing future generations from enjoying it. It's a great place, Just Like Hahei further up the road. (my one of my favourite places to camp at the beach when I was a kid... Next to the camp at Otautu bay. that is the best spot! and for the best little pub (bar) on the Peninsula... well that award goes to the Coroglen Tavern! The needle thing, in Auckland... well that would be the Sky Tower. You can Bungy jump from the damn thing it that's your idea of fun! and It get lit up with alsorts of lights for all sorts of occasions, the most recent was the Rock 2000, a radio station playing the top 2000 songs voted by listeners... It read "Foo Fighters Everlong #1" up the side of it using a big projector.

The circular building is a stranded UFO, just like the one on top the cement tower in Seatle, USA 😁 Gladestone is named after some old English lord, just as the mid-north town here in my state. Everything is super expensive in NZ, I looked at going for a holiday there about 15 years ago and just to hire a campervan for 21 days was over $5,000 AU and that didn't include food or air-fairs. Too my knowledge the tall tower in Auckland is one of the tallest structures in the Southern Hemisphere, I know tourists can go up it for sight-seeing, but I personally think it's just another of those Masonic Phallic Symbols 🤣 I see pretty red sunsets and sunrises all the time in the spring and summer, even here in Adelaide, it's like the Icehouse song 'Great Southern Land'. That No1 was beautiful, try to imagine what the Antartica looked like before it became a frozen wasteland, because there are forests and frozen lakes buried under all that ice, indeed there are forest remains off the southern coast of Australia that are rumored to stretch all the way to Antartica.

Woohoo! I had not previously seen this video, and it was a pretty good intro ad for NZ. I grew up in Christchurch, the largest city on the South Island. I have holidayed with my parents in Kaikoura, where the ocean gets very deep straight off the beach, and marine mammals cruise very close to the shore. Also as a kid I attended some YMCA camps at Akaroa harbour on Banks Peninsula. The coolest thing about them was hanging out with Hector's Dolphins, the worlds smallest dolphin. These guys would often come visit the kids when we came down to the beach and swam out to a raft tethered just off shore. They would very carefully give kids straight line rides clinging to their dorsal fins. You can also do this from tourist boats based in Akaroa township. You often meet penguins around Bank's Peninsula. The vey tall needle topped building in Auckland is the Sky Tower, until 2022 the tallest freestanding building in the Southern Hemisphere. It was built as a casino and events hosting site, but it has a revolving restaurant and many TV and radio broadcasts are made from there. You can also bungee jump off the roof! (As I'm sure you know, bungee jumping was invented on Vanuatu but commercialised by New Zealander AJ Hackett in the 1980s. (Incidentally I think they person you thought was cliff diving at the start of the video was actually bungee jumping at one of AJ Hackett's purpose built sites around Queenstown. They weigh you and measure the cords so your head gets soaked in the river beneath you) Napier has so much Art Deco architecture because it was basically flattened by an earthquake in 1931 and almost entirely rebuilt in (then) modern and fashionable Art Deco style. There is an annual cosplay event in the summer, where people dress in 1930s costumes and drive classic cars. Jet boating is another NZ invention (and very fun!) and down the Kawarau river (as shown here) you are jet propelled in only a few cm (a couple of inches) water depth and right up to the cliffs on either side. Yes, you can hire horses for trekking (usually by the day.) Fiordland really is one of the 7 Wonders of the World. NZ in general is spectacularly photographic, and driving 15 minutes in any direction will provide entirely different jaw dropping views. Cody always seems super smug when he gets your lap to himself and not at all interested in the opinions of anyone else!

TE! Aotearoa is so beautiful to look at. I've never been, tho it's just across the ditch (dutch). Pros - not far to drive anywhere, spectacular scenery, friendly people, lots of indigenous culture. Cons - it's cold (better in summer of course), earth quakes, and I've heard that Rotorua stinks of rotten eggs due to the 'pretty' hydrogen sulphide plumes. Visiting Australia: Pros - spectacular scenery, much warmer in parts, lots of big things, diverse culture and food, unique wildlife, great beaches for swimming, great weather, friendlier people. Cons - some places are almost too far to drive to, the other kind of unique wildlife, occasional bad weather events. $1 US gets you about $1.50 AU or NZ. So escape your winter and come on down for some southern sunshine! Thanks for the show. 🌅😎 PS: I think horse riding might be worse for your back than bungee jumping.
