I would recommended Elafonisos. You can take a quick ferry from Neapolis and it is a fabulous island with beautiful beaches. Only 1 mile from the shore.

These are very good suggestions. I would also recommend visiting limeni (or the whole mani) and elafonisos (plus Neapoli Voion and nearby) for people who enjoy either pure relaxation or nature exploration.😊

I am delighted that my videos have been useful to you, Athens and the Peloponnese are a perfect combination at that time of year, the hotels are cheaper, the roads empty, hire cars cheap and entry to the sites is half price. Plus the weather is ideal for hiking etc.

I went to the Peloponnese in 2001. We stayed in Tolo(n) which was a little bit on the shabby side (then). Nafplion was great though. The Bourtzi is so picturesque sat in the harbour like a small ship. It does look as though it's even prettier than I remember. I did think at the time, if I were to come back for a holiday, Nafplion would be my choice to stay. I went to Mycenae and Tiryns. And the little Mycenaean acropolis of Asini just round the coast from Tolon. Didn't know about Medea or Pylos then (ancient history buff). Some good suggestions there for places to see. Must get back there some time.

I agree with everything you say, actually my next video is on Tolo and Asine, I need to do Medea and Nestor at some point, Namea too, but it is too hot to hike and tour right now, saving them for the autumn, and thank you for commenting too.

One shouldn’t judge a place solely on one experience (let alone the experience of a stranger on the internet), but I had a somewhat scary encounter with a group of young Roma just outside Sparta. I was later told by a local that there is a fairly large population of Roma living semi-permanently out of cars and campers in the area I was at and that there were not infrequent clashes with the police. It’s not the first time I’ve met Roma in Greece, but it was the only time I felt I wasn’t safe.

Looking at a 14 day trip this October. Do you have a rough itinerary to fill the days without a bunch of driving everyday? Maybe a few home bases where we could do short drives to different areas? Thank you ❤
@GreeceExplored
@GreeceExplored 10 ай бұрын
Hello, 14 days in October, weather is really past swimming and beaches so I don't know what you really enjoy but I suggest 4 days in Athens, then use Nafplio as a base for Corinth, Mycenae, Epidaurus, perhaps 2 or 3 nights, then go to Kalamata as a base and visit Monemvasia, Ancient Messini and perhaps Pylos, then youcould go to Olympia and on to Patras for a night, before going across the Rio Antirio bridge to Delphi and perhaps back to Athens. That would work.

Excellent Video! I am planning to visit Athens and Peloponnese region in April with my husband and definitely will follow your advise! We are thinking to rent a car on the last day of visiting Athens and we are thinking to stay in Nafplio as base and from there visit the places you have mention on your video or do you think we should stay in 2 or 3 different places, we are going to be 6 days in the Peloponnese Region and 3 days in Athens!

Car is definitely the way to go and generally the roads are good. Were you stay depends what you want to see, personally I think Nafplio, Kalamata and Pylos are well located but as I said, it depends what you want to see. Aeropoli or Gytheio is also an option.

I'm looking to take a two week trip to Greece in October/November. I plan on spending part of my time on the mainland seeing historical sites and the other on Zakynthos (I have friends there I'm meeting). I really am more interested in seeing historical sites rather than beaches (history nerd here). If I'm basing myself in Athens for let's say a week, do you recommend me renting a car or using the bus system?
@GreeceExplored
@GreeceExplored 7 ай бұрын
100% rent a car, especially that time of year. the roads in the Peloponnese are easy and quiet at that time, you can also do a fairly easy loop round the Peloponnese to cover most things, I plan to do a vid on a road trip, but am still planning it.

@@GreeceExplored I agree with your list…I might have jiggled a few but you chose the best in your top 10. Nafplio is certainly wonderful. Don’t tell them about Cape Tenaro, Porto Kagio, Gythio etc. Ancient Messini would always be top of my list…even now when it costs more than €4 to enter, i have loved watching the excavations over the past couple of decades. But shhhhh! 😉😉

“…[if] Sparta were to become deserted and only the temples and foundations of buildings remained, I think that future generations would, as time passed, find it very difficult to believe that the place had really been as powerful as it was represented to be. Yet the Spartans occupy two-fifths of the Peloponnese and stand at the head not only of the whole Peloponnese itself but also of numerous allies beyond its frontiers. Since, however, the city is not regularly planned and contains no temples or monuments of great magnificence, but is simply a collection of villages, in the ancient Hellenic way, its appearance would not come up to expectation. If, on the other hand, the same thing were to happen to Athens, one would conjecture from what met the eye that the city had been twice as powerful as in fact it is.” (Thucydides, History of the Peloponnesian War, Book I, 10, 2.)
