My wife and I live on the coast in West Somerset, its truly stunning here but we just don't see enough of that big yellow thing in the sky! After finishing a restoration project here by Christmas we hope to then spend a month driving down and exploring the Peloponnese. Apart from escaping some of the UK winter, we hope to look into starting a project similar to those shown in your video. But, at the forefront of our minds is that we want this project to be very much to the benefit of the local economy and trades people as well as being able to continue to contribute and integrate into the local Greek community as we are really not keen on being part of an 'ex pat' community. So we would like to ask, in general how do the local Greek people feel about UK foreigners integrating in this a way? Many thanks and keep up the really informative videos. Miles & Mandy
@GreeceExplored14 сағат бұрын
My next video is all about property prices in our area of the Peloponnese, and what is happening now with the market in general so may be of interest to you I suspect... regarding integration, it depends where and ultimately how you behave but my experience is whilst you can become part of the community, you will never be part of the 'village', and that is not a negative really, just these places have families here for generations who have intermarried and grown up together. We have been her 15 years, I am the only English in the village and are comfortable here, but will ultimately always be outsiders or foreigners. I also feel the key is to very much fit in, not stand out with lifestyle etc. Kalamata, Nafplio etc have a good mix of both and in my opinion are the areas you should start in, the further from those you go in the Peloponnese, generally the more local it becomes... I am sure you will have a great time exploring though! and it may take several trips? Keep in touch.

Great video Andrew but sad gets sadder in that foreigners ( Germans primarily and Northern Europeans keep buying prime Greek land cheap with their foreign incomes that are NOT in par with Greek incomes, thus inflating real estate values to the point that native Greeks are PRICED OUT of their neighborhoods and a real estate bubble is in its way, especially in Peloponnese.
@GreeceExploredКүн бұрын
Actually my next video is about exactly this, but I have to make the point that the Greeks are as guilty of causing these price rises as the foreigners who buy. It is the Greeks who are selling the land and building the properties which are specifically targeted and marketed and priced for the foreigners to buy.
@survive-1-day-at-a-timeКүн бұрын
@@GreeceExplored with all due respect I disagree. The Greeks have been and are being starved by their government. Lack of high paid jobs, ridiculously low salaries compared to the rest of Europe. This is why, Greece loses its brightest brains to the European higher bidders. The ones who choose to stay behind, of course they will sell land to foreign investment because with their foreign incomes they can afford to pay far more. But make no mistake, the foreigners are the ones exploiting Greece, not the Greeks. If you want to blame the Greeks, blame the Greek government that emulates American capitalism and sells its country piece by piece to foreigners. I cannot particularly stomach the nerve of Germans who decimated Greece during WWII, to be buying land with precious olive groves in Peloponnese and claim it their turf for ever! Greeks will pollute their DNA and lose the sovereignty in the near future. It will be much too late when they wake up to what they’ve lost.

It is a lovely place, smart and expensive and ferries to Spetses Athens etc. Plenty going on during the season and lots to explore, Nafplio is about 50 mins drive. For me 2 negatives, it is very quiet in the winter and is a hard drive to Athens. That said It is very popular with the Athenians for second homes, and i think the ferry to Athens is about 50 euros and 2 hours 10 mins, so quicker than driving.

ok, lots of things that I would like to go through but what I most want to bring attention is the "i can call a doctor and visit tomorrow and it will cost 40-50 euros" see the thing is that as an employee Greece , you should NOT have to pay those 40-50 euros because this money for healthcare is being withhold every month from our salaries and freelancers have to pay for it. Whether you want it or not. Ant the free doctors might take from 2-4 weeks up to 4 months for an appointment. What you say is visit a "private" doctor which money is extra to the ones already withhold for my public healthcare but can't use/have in a decent timely manner.
@GreeceExplored4 күн бұрын
In the UK it is no different and actually worse. Most EU countries and the UK use income tax to pay for national healthcare and you will wait 2 months to see a GP doctor if you are lucky, and then be even luckier if you get the help and support you need. To go to a private doctor in the UK will be typically 200 euros for 30 minutes. Greece has good value healthcare, great well trained medical staff and doctors and is accessible. If I want a blood test in the UK I have to go to the doctor first, here every large village has a good micro centre. Greece is better than so many people think for so many things.
@John7No3 күн бұрын
@@GreeceExplored once you start visiting more specialized doctors the 50 euros become 80 or 100 and maybe 120. But even if that was not the case what is the minimum wage and average in UK and what is in Greece. Compare the two and you will see that it is balanced out. My issue is with the must pay and cannot go to a private insurance , which I have to go either way if I need to able to have access to healthcare. So I am getting robbed. Plus if you have a surgery you have to give the doctor money under the table. Our system only works in case of emergencies , that they HAVE to take you in no matter what.

All these videos are very nice. They are the trend. Although, no true review is deepening in issues, like: per yeat maintenance costs after 5 years, security and fire risks hedge, proximity issues if road is gravel, water supply (especially when you have swimming pool), skilled personnel for the housekeeping or the olive trees care, etc, etc.

All are fair points, I have considered covering them, but this video, or videos would become far too long - and I try to keep them focused on the core subject. I might do a video on property risks, or similar, I have been thinking about it... Prefabs are not really a thing in Greece. It looks cheap and fake and we don't want that. Actually even some years ago it was kind of a stigma to live in a prefabricated house and not a real one. But over the years and because of the financial crisis this perception has been changed lately.
