Today we are counting down the best post up PGs in NBA history. Being able to post up as a point guard gave these players a big advantage over their defenders, as many point guards are not skilled enough when it comes to defending the post. Who is the best post up PG in your opinion? Let us know in the comment section bellow.

I'm so impressed by Andre Miller. I've never seen a point guard be so unathletic but still be effective. I swear I don't get why people don't understand that posting up is an essential skill. The closer you're to the basket, the more efficient you'll be. That's true analytics

It's a good skill to have but it stagnates the offense and left your teammates out of touch, if you center your game around it. Modern game is all about spacing so most point guards prefer to practice something like isolation stepback three from the perimeter, and off ball they just stay behind the three point line waiting for spot up three. Which could be more efficient the better shooter you are. It's not like they can't do postups though. Guys like Kyrie, Booker, Jamal Murray and of course, CP would do it if they have the opportunity. Russ do more of it as well because his long range jumper isn't exactly great.

It’s official; Scar is the best defender on BIL by a long shot. Best offense against that for me personally is attacking the lead foot of the defender with a vicious sweep from the triple threat position. If I’m gassed from having to deal with that defensive menace however, I’d try to post him up like Luka 😂

I didn't realize how much I liked my point guards to post up until this video. Gary Payton, Chauncy Billups and Sam Cassell are my favorite point guards and I think they are all extremely underrated. First off Gary Payton, he was a superstar when I first watched the NBA but its like the historians have reduced him to a defensive pest. Then Chauncy Billups who I consider the most underrated point guard of all time. Then Sam Cassell the most underrated shooter of all time.

This was a very good list and a good video. You pretty much got all the best posting PG's all time in there. The only one you're missing is Penny. I would've taken out CP3 and put Penny in there. Penny and Magic were the most dominant posting PG's of all time. Magic scored most his points in the post.

Thanks. The only reason I didn't put Penny on the list is because he was listed as SG and SF during some of his later seasons

90% the 90s and early 2000s PGs had a post up game. Now you don’t see it. I think only CP3 & Russ use the post
@yunan9610

Jamal Murray does it often, Kyrie as well. It's not like most PG now can't do postups, the flow of modern offense is just more about run and gun with spacing and threes, rather than using up half of shot clock to get in position to do post up. Point guards are usually the furthest from the basket. There's just not much of the opportunity to do it.

Penny should be #1 on this list no matter how many seasons he played the PG position... The only reason he stopped playing PG was because of his injuries. Good work though, cool vid 😎 👍🏽

@@noneyabeeysnass8283beat me to it. Magic could do just about everything. Spin, hook, dunk, left, right, finger roll, face-up, you name it. And if you doubled him it was basically two points to whomever was free because he was tall and had great vision. Absolute nightmare to defend against.

@@BasketballFundamentals You did great. My favorite point guards are Gary Payton, Chauncy Billups and Sam Cassell. It's sad how much disrespect Gary Payton gets these days because I can barely find him on a top 10 list and I actually consider him number 2 behind Magic. Chauncy is the most underrated though because I don't think I've ever seen him on any list. Also, Sam Cassell is sort of a midrange Steph Curry.

I don’t recall CP3’s post game a lot. But just per this video, CP is good at using his strength to get into post position, but his post up seems to be heavily focused on face up to make those mid ranges, which are his logo moves. But one may argue face up is something being less discussed when you are really talking about post up masters. You don’t see that many face up in Duncan, Jordan, Hakeem, Kobe, Mchale, Bird’s post up highlights, and GP, Cassell, and Andre miller’s

Mark Jackson was killing teams in the playoffs with his postplay so #10 is certainly too low. Having guys hitting long face up jumpers ahead of him as examples of post play 🤔

I'm a Pacer's fan and Mark Jackson was a beast in the post. In fact, there were times when he was the Pacers best post up player depending on what Smits was doing. I still can't rank him above Chauncy Billups though or even Jason Kidd who I don't think was as skilled at the post as Mark but he was taller so it came easier to him.

@@BasketballFundamentals I'm glad you had him on the list. You have to be paying attention to Pacer games closely to notice his post up skills because Reggie and Smits are sort of the main show.

Livingston can post up though and was a key in the Warriors championships because going from defending Curry outside to Livingston in the post would throw off a lot of teams. I wouldn't put him above Billups who I think is the greatest post up point guard of all time. Gary Payton is an absolute beast but he had so many skills that I don't think he relied on the post as much as Chauncy so I'd switch them in pure post up game.
