It’s totally insane that BOTH Seth and Kofi had their runs derailed by a random Lesnar victory within a couple of months of each other
@BlueBoboDoo100 Жыл бұрын
Actually, I think Seth's loss to Brock almost saved his run. It ended his awful feud with Corbin, it was a cheap win via MitB so it didn't make Seth look weak, and he got a rematch and got to wrestle an actual great match with a clean victory over Brock. It was the Fiend that would derail Seth's reign and his entire babyface character permanently.

Jeff Hardy as WWE and/or World Heavyweight Championship deserves a mention. Jeff spent a whole calendar year chasing the WWE Championship in 2008, and on his way became one of the most popular stars on the roster (certainly from my perspective anyway). When he finally won the title at Armageddon that year, he then lost the strap in his very first title defence, and I don't even remember if he even challenged for the belt ever again; he certainly never won it back anyway. After feuding with his brother for a bit, he then started feuding over the World Heavyweight Championship, won the belt in the main event of Extreme Rules only to be cashed in on immediately afterwards. He then won it again at Night of Champions, and again lost the strap in his first title defence and was released from the company the very next show. Yes okay, the WHC reigns cumulated in the 2009 Feud of the Year with CM Punk but it doesn't change the fact that WWE built Jeff into a main event calibre superstar for over a year, and then turned his three main event title reigns into utter jokes.

I always thought it was appropriate: All the New Day tag matches at the time were Big E teaming with either Kofi or Xavier and almost always went down the same way: Kofi or Xavier would start, they would get beaten up and on the brink of losing the match only to tag in Big E and have him save the day... Honorable mention to Tetsuya Naito. Finally climbs back to the top of the mountain, wins the IWGP IC and Heavyweight titles across two nights and finally has his LIJ role call... interrupted by KENTA. Which was okay. The heat was nuclear. The match was good. But sadly, it was Naito's only defense as champ, before the pandemic hit. After that he'd hot potato the belt to and from EVIL in the worst heel turn ever and Naito would have to take a back seat to Kota Ibushi and Will Osprey.

Tetsuya Naito winning the championship for the IWGP and Intercontinental. A great story years in the making, helped by New Japan's boom of popularity, Showbuckle's videos, and beating a John Cena type supergod in Okada. And saying that it was a horrible reign is a understatement: pandemic came (not his fault) but what came after was horrible as Gedo making "nice midcarder and edghy babyface" EVIL into a heel main eventer that constantly had crappy finishes and wasn't a stable main eventer. With that, it immediately killed any buzz NJPW had after losing Omega, and it's sure to say that it never recovered in the eyes of western fandom, being considered the promotion to harvest eventual dream matches once in a while, and splitting the best nontraditional babyface stable there was in NJPW, which even if it gave us repetitive matches, it was fundamental to understand alignments. Also ruined the leftovers of Bullet Club with whatever House of Torture was, and now i think the champion is SANADA in the inmaginative and totally random Just 5/4 Guys. All can be traced back to Gedo not knowing what to do after Naito winning the championship, didn't have credible rivals or willing to elevate anyone. I know the pandemic is a handicap, but could be worked around. I even imported two Los Ingobernables de Japón caps being in Europe. Now i can hardly know who is even there. But this maybe be a "just me" problem. To be uninstrested in watching awesome wrestling i could watch at morning, takes a lot of merit to do that. I've read some things at Cagematch about what happened at the pandemic, and if you thought WWE doesn't know what to do with the tag division, wait to see about all the changes. Changes are nice if done well, but NJPW post Wrestlekingdom 2020 is like what Lisa Simpson told Mr Burns about what his political campaign looked like: a downhill train without brakes.

Agree with every entry other than Becky. I wouldn’t have even had her drop the belts at MITB. I’d have had her retain both titles, bring her ego to a boiling point and constantly putting down Bayley, saying she doesn’t have the guts to cash-in because of who she is. Bayley cashing in on Becky after two title defences would’ve destroyed her character, as she was a BIG babyface at the time. Instead, build that story so Becky looks strong, gets drunk on her own ego and power, have the audience rally behind Bayley and lead to a big payoff cash-in a couple months down the line. Giving Becky a strong title run and Bayley a solid story that shows her character progressing ready for a new run as champ.
