Wow those sounds amazing Claire!! My favourite trail race so far has to be the Maverick Powys race, they aren't running it again next year but I did it last year and it was an incredible 22k across the brecon beacons...one minute you were running uphill and the next you'd see a sign just pointing straight up a mountain and you would have to scramble on your hands and knees to get up there!! It was breathtaking and exactly why I love trail racing!

The Trail Events Brecon Beacons marathon is a stunner! Early May..... loved it! The half is pretty too but no ascent of Pen y fan on the half!

I ran Hellrunner's Hell Up North for the first time this year and it was an absolute blast. It ranges from nice woodland trails to neck-deep swamp crossing not to mention the angels handing out sweets at the disco water station - utterly mad but loads of fun.

Great video Ginger, so enthusiastic about your favourite races. I like the Bath Skyline and the Cheddar Gorge races were good, but they are not at the level of the races on your list. Nice to see the cat making another appearance too 😄

Favourite would have to be Apex Running Snowdon Skyline for the wide variety of terrain involved and the steep and technical scrambling sections. The first edition took place this August starting from Nant Gwynant.

Just completed the Fan Dance, a load bearing 24k tab through the Brecon Beacons yesterday. I can't walk now! But I'm watching you're video to help decide what to do next. I fancy the Pembrokeshire one, looks stunning

@@wildgingerruns I cheated really as not much was in my bag, I was still classed as 'clean fatigue' but took one just for extra clothes and water. Do you know much about the Malvern ultra? It goes along the Worcestershire way! It's on soon as well

Road ID is good idea. I've been wearing one since I ran into Harvey Lewis, wearing his Road ID, on his FKT attempt of the Appalachian Trail. Now I've GOT to watch Killian's film!!

I can definitely recommend waterproof socks. I’ve got Sealskinz ones. They keep your feet warm and are comfortable too - even though you might not think it when you first put them on.

Kitty in the background!!! Loved the Raw Ultra Wicklow Way 50 which I attempted last week, I was unsuccessful but really loved the race! :-( on the UTMB - I wanted to be able to run that this year but was unsuccessful in my attempt to get enough points so its going to be another shot next year...

Wild Ginger Running - hey Claire made it to 38 miles or there abouts. First 30 miles were great felt great and ran conservatively - sun went down and all hell broke loose - gale force winds knocking me off my feet on a completely exposed climb. Shattered one of my new Leki poles and my confidence just pretty much survival mode to the aid station and called it. Disappointed but really an amazing group putting on the race.

Favourite trail run has to be the Brecon Beacons Trail Run. Next run on the 11th May 2019 from Talybont on Usk. I did the 11.5km option earlier this year, there are great views. There are also a half marathon, marathon and Ultra options.

Oh I forgot to mention the Tour de Helvellyn. I ran it last year, it was fantastic. There was loads of snow on the top with blue sky's. I just got bask as it got dark and pick up my bottle of beer :-) . Gutted I'm working this year. Looks like the weather will be hard going though tomorrow .

It was last weekend. But it was cut down to 27miles because of the weather.

Waterproof socks are very good, BUT I have found quite a few downsides, they are very hard to wash afterwards as they are hand wash only in cold water and drip dry, and also they do not let your feet breath, so they go a funny shade of white and wrinkly.

Do you have tips for handling depression and seasonal affected disorder for these winter months please Claire? We live at Muncaster so have plenty of fells to play on and rivers and tarns to cold dip in. Motivation to get out the door is the hardest part of any run. So I would be interested to hear if you have any tips please.

I am more hiker then runner but would like to try my first ultra challenge in reasonable price. What race ( Wales would be the best I am in Cardiff ) would you recommended please. There are some challenges like Race to the Tower etc. but the prices for this big events are crazy :( Something for someone who can run a bit but walk mostly, up to 50 miles maybe ?

Has anyone done the Glen Coe Skyline? I think it sounds interesting because it's not as long as some other ultras but is very technical, basically run-scrambling for a lot of the time (the big Bookle and Aonach Eagach ridge).

Any advice for overweight runners? I am currently jumping on the keto band waggon in order to try and shift some timber. Do you have any advice for someone in my position? I managed to finish the Eden 1/2 at this size, and more recently the Freedom Racing Clowance Woods; the latter was fasted and keto and felt fine throughout. I get I will start to struggle this year as the race distances building up to man vs coast 23+ miler in July. Should I add in carbs in the build up and during race days if my body is already using fat for energy?
@waynereed2196 жыл бұрын
Claire, My weight over Xmas was 109kg now after a good blast of keto since the new year I am down to 106 at nearly 39YO. I usually sit around 96kg and have been content with intermittent fasting (24hr fasts)for over a year, however after Eden 1/2 I really let myself go, ooops. My target is to get to about 90kg by the time I do man vs coast in July, lighter if I can but don’t think I would get much less as I have quite a large frame anyway. I aim to get some sort of training in 3-4 days a week and bring back Sunday hike day. I have had issues for years with shin splints and calve tightness so after any run I had to do non impact for 2 weeks but since going keto the recovery time seems to have reduced to just a couple of days( hopefully it will stay like that lol) I even managed to get up early this morning and do a gentle 2 miler 👍 Hopefully I can stick to my plan, keep shifting fat and keep putting miles on the legs.

I entered an endurance life event a few years back and could not do it and contacted them and said keep my entry fee as I did not want to be causing any undue work. they insisted on returning my fee along with a lovely letter wishing me well. a small point I know but to me it spoke volumes about this company.
