Talking to your partner about likes and dislikes helps immensely. I know you wanna hear from the O.G., but it's probably going to depend on the venue and your actual preference/comfort for the toe shape. The Derby to me is slightly more formal (I'm thinking jackets required for the look/dining venue) than the Oxford though Oxfords are usually more comfortable for normal to wider feet. Hopefully he sees this before you have to attend your event to drop his take.

One additiional thing about alcoho, yes it will relax you more and give you less inhibition, and so you will likely perform better.
