Regarding Bonucci: maybe, but then the thing that stunts the growth of the young players is their transfer rather than bonucci's. Also, de Ligt was definitely signed to go straight into the first XI (probably at Bonucci's expense given his abysmal 18/19)

The amount of energy, mobility and running power, as well as positivity this kid brings to the team, it's a wonder why he isn't starting every single game for them. Because of balance in midfield, if you have 3 spots, you do not replace De jong because he is much better offensively and defensively, Puig is not going to replace Busquetes because Puig is not good in a holding rol. and Pedri takes the third slot because he is amazing. Puig is unlucky that De Jong and Pedri are almost never injured. Pjanc was also wining about gametime the whole last season.

@@guus5504 I do get that sentiment - and I wholly agree. What I'm getting at is that he is more than good enough to be a starter - regardless of other options (as you pointed out). For the sake of a balanced midfield, I get why he's left out, but once you're of the calibre, where every other team out there would love to have you as a consistent starter for them, it just seems like a waste to not utilize his talents, or maybe just find some way to work around it and find SOME place for him. Still, I do agree with you. Yet my point is that his talents are of such high standards that it's disappointing not to see him included more often.

I would never accept that signing of Zlatan hindered Depay's progress. He never got used to EPL...it's pace or it's physicality. He should have delayed the big move maybe a season late, took time to mature a bit more. I'm never a fan of clubs spending outrageous money on wonder kids...it just adds additional pressure on the poor kid for no fault of his. For every Bellingham you have 10 failed wonder kids

maybe the problem is that they are playing a similar role... so when Foden shows his potential (which is likely higher than Brahim), they had to put Brahim to the side. Technique wise, Foden is also quite similar to David Silva, so he's projected as the direct successor. I think when Brahim couldn't keep up with Foden's growth and performance (whenever they got the chance), he got lower and lower in the pecking order. Also De Bruyne is untouchable in the other midfield spot...
