It’s a miracle that that tire didn’t hit anybody still. Even though it missed the stands, there is still a crowd of people walking behind the stands getting concessions, going to the bathroom, going back to their seats etc. Because I was walking in that area about 30 laps before that happened.

Local here, news reports stated that one person was treated and released on scene for minor injuries. Alluded to the tire bouncing off of at least the car and possibly something else before hitting the person. So thankful that no one else was injured, I was watching online and Hinch's "I don't like that at all guys" quote still comes to my mind when thinking about the incident. Thankfully someone on twitter tweeted that there were no injuries while TV was on their commercial break after showing the initial replays.

Great video Demise. One wreck that could be included in a part 4 of brutal Indycar crashes is the 11 car wreck when IRL visited Atlanta in 2001. This along with the massive wreck at the US 500 in 1996 are Indycar's versions of the "Big One" we see frequently in NASCAR at Daytona & Talladega.

The thing about the Briscoe crash (6:30) that I don't think people appreciate enough is that the impact with the fence stopped the front of the car so suddenly and ripped it in half so easily that the back end hardly lost any speed at all and kept going for that long

A note on #10 Pagenaud just a few weeks ago. Compared to some of the older wrecks; the reason given that Pagenaud's practice wreck prevented him from racing the next day was his wreck eclipsed 80 Gs and protocol would not allow him to compete.

I'm still sorta upset with Townsend Bell, who boasted about how safe Indycars have become, minutes after a tire dislodged from Rosenqvist's car and flew over the catch fencing. This never should have happened. I never want to be reminded of the Visionaire 500K 1999 this way ever again.
@calxshaw06 Жыл бұрын
let's be fair he's right, pagenaud would've been more screwed than not if that was 20-30 years ago, even if Micheal Andretti survived a very similar incident. this stuff still happens because it's Motorsports but the cars aren't complete death traps anymore
@michaelhazen3153 Жыл бұрын
Neither do I as I was sitting only a couple sections away from the fans who died and were severely injured. They were sitting in the section I sat in the year before as the seats seemed to be over the track and the view was great but I never imagined a tire and rear axle making it over the fence. In another race I was at that I think was the 1987 Indy 500 when a crash in turn 3 caused a tire to role down the track before it was hit by Tony or Gary Bettenhausen to hit it and send it flying very far hitting and killing a fan in the top row of the stands. I was shocked to see it happen again at this year's Indy 500. It also happened the year before the '99 Visionaries 500k during the CART sanctioned U.S. 500 when Adrian Fernandez hit the wall in Turn 4 at Michigan also killing 3 fans. It still is rare. The tracks are huge and it won't stop me from going to races as I consider it the greatest spectator event in the world.

Was Servia's aerobatics at Laguna Seca in parts 1 or 2 as well? He tried setting the high jump record, and I thought for some reason Mansell's 93 phoenix crash was in th etop 3 in Part 1 for some odd reason. That being said.... Gidley hit in the same corner where Gary Titus was kille as well, though I wonder why there was no protection for the bridge supports, by this time we'd seen bridges come down from the columns being hit or even just moved though, after all Gidley's hit had a ton of force behind it. That and also there seemed to be a stretch from 2000 to 2006 where there was at least one brutal IRL wreck per year though as well. Bruno really got done dirty with that hit however.

It is a RIDICULOUS speech pattern. Aaaaand of course there's already been one completely unnecessary "literally" used in order to be trendfollowing and so kewl. Experiments: 1. Look up the LITERAL DEFINITION OF "LITERALLY" 2. Every time you're tempted to use it as an overcompensatingly frivilous emphasis, DON'T. You'll find that 99.99% of the time, your point could have easily been made without the distracting trendspeak. Try some CONFIDENCE in the way you speak. It will make it easier for listeners to begin to take you more seriously.
