This race has a super special place in my heart: my family were guests of the 44 Magnus car as part of the Children's Tumor Foundation. This was the third time I had gone to the race, and the second as guests for my hometown team Magnus. A fair few memories from '16 specifically have since meshed with the '13 and '15 editions of the race, but I remembered hearing the team was a couple laps down in the night stint, but had made it back up when we left the hotel Sunday morning. I vividly remember last 45 or so minutes of this race, I got to stand in the Magnus pit tent. I remember the intense fuel race between the 44 and some Lambo, and I remember the moments we had regained the lead and won the race. It was an insane experience, and is a core memory. We were also on the same plane as John Potter going home, so that was cool

This may sound crazy, but I think CART should have had the US 500 again the following year. But not at the exact time as Indy. Either that Saturday or on Memorial Day, or ideally just one week later, and advertised it during the Indy 500, making sound like another big race on the circuit. In some ways this could have been perceived as just moving the Michigan 500 from July, to late May/early June. I think in the long-term that could have helped CART. But the whole thing was of course a mess. Between CART, Tony George, everyone.

I never understood nascar that if the faster car is behind they are supposed to slow down to avoid the wreck if blocked? Shouldn't the slower car avoid the wreck by not blocking? I know that Kenseth needed the win, but he didn't want it anymore than Logano; he slid up in front and stayed slow so he got turned....just like Sr. would've done. So are the rules supposed to be different if the driver is liked by the fans, I don't know. From my perspective, Logano didn't do anything wrong and Kenseth was just salty because Logano is a better driver than him.

I was there, my buddy Uncle, Joe Benson track announcer very sad day. He was my newest and most favorite racecar driver that year. The track design with the grass was all bad. Should’ve been all black top. My dad told me being a racecar fan means that your favorite guy or somebody will die I’m glad it’s not that often but Greg Moore was one of my favorites that day and the months beforewhenever I think of sad days of racing Greg Moore Dale Earnhardt two that I wish we’re still alive today.

Watching this, reminds me of the flag being brought down to half staff and the prayer vigil that we had at the end of the race. I know I was a kid back then I cried all the way home.

This was sadly the end of CART. Though the split with IndyCar was what set back open wheel racing for years.

The 1990s really were the pinnacle of American open-wheel racing. I think people today don't understand just how popular it was at the time. It was essentially American Formula 1. In fact, drivers would go back and forth between F1 and CART. Very exciting races, great drivers, great cars.

while watching the race and seeing that accident I knew he was gone. I remember starting to cry and saying to my wife he's just a baby. I had the pleasure to see him racing Toronto and I was so proud to be a Canadian while watching him race. Oh the what ifs. I'm almost crying now. I have to admit it ruined Racing for me for quite a while.

So this race was the first of 2 in 6 month's they didn't show a replay until they knew the health of the driver. If you notice in 2000 daytona trucks, Geoff Bodines wreak wasn't replayed until after we saw him moving on the stretcher. ESPN used to be amazing. Still baffles me they showed Dan Wheldons wreak almost 12 year's later over 10 times.

Where i grew up, F1 was broadcasted on national TV, so i was very into it....but i was also very fortunate to have Eurosport on Parabolic Antena! That´s how i followed (closely) the 1993 indycar season....and i remember looking at the Marlboro Penske, with it´s chrome rims, and feeling that i was looking at the most awesome racing car ever....and after all these years, reviewing this footage, it´s almost like i still feel the same. This era was amazing....great cars, drivers and racing!

I will never understand how Charlie Kimball never gets grief for not getting out of the way when his car was going maybe 140 mph on that last lap. He should have been right at the bottom of the track or even on the warm-up lane.

Memo Gidley's Daytona 24Hrs crash is the scariest one here. Im convinced the HANS Device saved his life. If he had that crash in the 90s he would be dead. When the commentators gasp and shriek in horror like that you know its a very big, violent and nasty shunt.
