I got a 2011 Highlander that was recently rear ended with damage to the rear tailgate door. Without even asking, the guy at the shop said, you really want to get this fix, these cars last forever. The guy who hit me is paying for the damages and is currently in the shop. I miss the truck since it is in the shop right now.

As a long time VW owner, I have to say, they do not stand up to abuse like a Toyota, but if you get a good one and treat it properly, it is a fantastic driving car. It's not for people who just want an appliance and you do need to mind how you maintain it, but the people who love them enjoy the trade-off of having a nicer more engaging driving experience, especially if you get into a GTI or GLI.

@@ECPPRef the CRV. In the UK we got the K24 version but we also got a 2.2 CDTi (Diesel) Over hear the Diesel was known to be the better engine. The K24 is too low on torque for a vehicle the size of a CRV. The UK 2.2 Diesel version will do 65MPG Cruise and Combined 40ish mpg too. Our Land Cruisers were 3.0L Diesel too.. Much better MPG than the US V8 and the same sort of power and torque.

Worth mentioning that the Toyota/Lexus hybrids don’t use a traditional rubber band CVT. It’s an e-CVT so just feels like a CVT to drive but the gearbox is a combination of a planetary gear set and a pair MGUs (motor generation units). Very reliable.
@donaldbanner2185
@donaldbanner2185 5 ай бұрын
...........💯%...............Correct...O!.....THEY R NOT CVC!............ not a CVT gearbox, it is an e-CVT which is an epicycloidal transmission and no belt of any kind. eCVT is completely different from a cvt. eCVT doesn't use belt/band. Nothing are the same. It's a transmission that contentiously varies, the mechanics are different but the outcome is the same !

This is why used Toyota/Lexus vehicles sell for more, people desire them to buy and owners tend to keep them leading to some scarcity. I love owning old JDM’s, just upgrade the headlights with LED bulbs and replace the stereo with a modern display unit with key features to connect to your phone for music and maps. Once you do that then it doesn’t feel so ancient. You can probably do that with less than the cost of two monthly payments on a new car note.

You can get 300k miles on a Toyota if you maintain it fairly well and do t live in harsh climate regions. I had a Camry I put 350k on and just had an Avalon with 173k until someone rear ended me a couple weeks ago. I’m getting a Lexus next and will drive it for another 10 years.

I've owned both the Lexus' and both the Toyota's in this video but non-hybrid versions. I sold the 2004 Lexus ES300 to a friend and he's still running around town in it. Never an issue. Both the Camry and Avalon (I eventually gave them to my kids) were in significant accidents (the Camry was totalled) and both times my kids were unscathed. I tell anyone who asks that they are very safe vehicles. I live up North and I also advise people to put snow tires on them in the winter. The tires Toyota includes are great for everything but snow.

Glad to see VW on here. Coming from several civics I was apprehensive of making the jump to VW. Happy with my 2018 Golf R DSG. Yes, the maintenance is more expensive than a civic (probably 1.5 times more at least) but I knew that it would be going in. This car is solid and comes loaded as standard equipment. I was going to sell it at the peak of used car prices but kept it. The thought crossed my mind again recently to get an electric but I might hold off, again. At 60k miles this car feels smoother than at 10k miles. This car is very low-key and I think that is what attracts many buyers. But it definitely lives up as a 'performance hatch' when you want it to.

"At 60k miles this car feels smoother than at 10k miles" - I had somewhat similar experience with the Golf Plus diesel, which is now 15 years old. Perhaps it was just a matter of getting used to the ancient clunky TDI. Once I accepted the fate and learned to love excessive vibration, it is actually quite comfortable, and it still feels dependable. 1/10 on refinement scale, 9/10 for peace of mind.

Now I drive a restored 1971 VW 1302s. 1640cc engine with twin solex carbs, petronix ignition, and customized aircondition to deal with tropical heat. It is reliable and ideal for city driving needs. I also owned a 2015 VW tiguan TDI. After 6 years I sold it and bought a 2004 VW Touareg 3.2 vr6 gasoline engine. I drive the beetle and the touareg alternately. VW's are pretty good, solid and reliable cars and will hold their value if maintained properly. I have a 1999 model Honda City 1.5 EXIs manual transmission. She'll be turning 25 in a couple of months, and still revvs up and runs like new, even after having 195k on the odo. It's not surprising to see that most of the cars mentioned in your list are Japanese makes. Not sure if it's a true story, but they say that the top boss of Toyota once asked his engineering team to visit the junkyard and inspect the Toyotas lying there to figure out the lives of which parts got over because of which the vehicles were scrapped, and then asked them to re-engineer those parts for a higher life, so that the overall life of their vehicles could be increased. At the same time the top boss of Ford asked his engineering team to do the same, only difference being that he asked them to analyse which parts were still in working condition, and to re-engineer those parts for a less life, matching that of the parts that had worn out! The difference can be seen on the road 😊

Just got back from Hyundai today. Dealing with the Hyundai dealerships is a nightmare, but my 2016 Santa Fe Sport has given me no major issues so far. Hyundai charged me $135 just to replace a headlight bulb today and took 3 hours to do it. I came in for a scheduled appointment and ran over 7 things (to include oil change which they didn’t do) I wanted them to do including the bulb, but I only let them do the bulb given the insane amount of time they took to even start looking at the car. I accidentally overloaded my glove compartment, as an example of another thing, and needed them to set that back correctly. Instead of doing the things I asked, they told me that would take several hours more but then proceeded to send pics of things they felt were an issue that I could see no significant issues with. Waiting room full of people, cars lined up for service as far as the eye could see. Last time I went, it took over 4 hours to do an oil change. Another dealership didn’t tighten the bolt correctly after an oil change and oil was leaking all over my garage floor. The only reason I’d sell this vehicle is to never have to deal with a Hyundai dealership ever again. Why do I even go there for oil changes? Well, I won’t anymore, but had been because it pays off to have your vehicle regularly serviced at a dealership when it comes to warranty issues. I had a Honda, for instance, out of warranty, and the transmission went out, but because I had regularly serviced it with Honda and they knew there were issues with that year, they fixed it for free.

VW has a loyalty brand that really is unique. I owned three passats, and loved them all. Would I ever go back to vw? maybe in the future if they make an evthat can beat teslas range. I love the atlas tho, ive test driven a few and rented a few and as big as they are, they are simple and easy to drive. VW really with the north american model passat realized that the US likes bigger cars. Can you imagine if they bring back the bettle and passat as pure evs. There's enough space in a passat to possibly get a battery that can go the tesla model s range. and the bettle! as iconic as that car is could easily be a ev runner

Great list. GX460 is basically a TLC Prado. TLC is LX in the Lexus lineup. Interestingly enough my friend had a 2UZ-FE non vvti knocked on his Land Cruiser under 100k miles. So everything is possible =) I personally drive my cars at least up to 200k Km (or 125k miles) which usually takes me 10-15 years

No surprise Toyota products, including those flagship Lexus are on the list, VW going back ten years perhaps the quality was better? The 4cyl VW products, with the turbo charged direct injection need dedication in maintenance. Carbon built up is an issue. This was common in the 2.0L , Turbo and now those engines have been replaced with a 1.5L, turbo. We are car folks, and since the 90's have had, purchased new VW's (Passat), BMW, Mercedes, Jeep, two Jaguars; now the novelty wore off for us with these marks, and Toyotas are the mainstay. 2022 Tacoma and a 2023 RAV4 both naturally aspirated. Hope to keep them for some time.

I would agree with that. The older German vehicles were solid, nice to drive and fit and finish made you proud to own them. Sadly some of those traits have moved on and as a result in last few years, people have looked for options.

My 09 ram still going. First 8 yrs was problem free. Yes, even the tik noise was not a issue. Just broken bolts cover under warranty. Last 6yrs on average , spent about $800 to $1900 a yr in repairs for wear and tear parts. 2010 Nissan altima CVT hasn't given me a problem or engine issues. First 9yrs been problem free, last 4yrs just normal wear and tear parts . Cost of repair been on average about $500 a yr DIY which is easy to work on If you are tried of fixing old cars, following dave Ramsey advice. Buy a new car and be worry free for 8 yrs. After 8 yrs you will spend on average 1k to 2k depending on the problem. which is way cheaper then today's car payments. You pay it off, put the money back in your pocket every month till the shop bill estimates are higher then the cars value. In the end, it'd best to Buy a vehicle that is will known on the rd I recommend : Nissan altima Any honda Ford f150 Toyota Lexus RAM??? STAY on maintenance and use 1qt of Lucas to keep the HEMI going. Oil alone is not enough. You use Lucas, you'll get a good 200,000 miles out that engine before cam shaft and lifters go out which will cost about 4k at the dealership to work on The goal is to own a vehicle and be payment free for as long as you can. If you do Desire for new wheels, wait every 10yrs. 10yrs is a sweet spot where every new vehicle has finally got the huge upgrade.
