My former neighbor was an usher at that game and him and the other game day staff sat there drinking it up too. He told us he was hitting and punching folks too. He also snapped some photos of the melee with the camera he had bought while in the Navy (he was deployed to Vietnam) and showed us some of the pictures too.

I was there, it was crazy. The video clip failed to mention that, that game started the ban on beer being sold past the 7th inning and the restriction of 2 beer max per person. I remember using a quarter and nickel and came back with a tray of 6 beers. Ahhh, the good old days in cleveland. That restriction has carried over to other sports. I was at the Warrior game last night and could only buy 2 beers at a time for the 4 of us.

Ya gotta know what your doing. For a 8pm game you pick the boys up and are at the stadium at 6pm with a case on ice. Then as the game gets boring by the 4th inning you reveal to the boys you got a 1/4 oz of blow in your glove compartment and all 4 watch the last 3 innings at a titty Bar. That's a sucess story. Lol

Was this game televised locally in Cleveland, or back to Dallas/Fort Worth, and if so, does any footage of original live TV coverage of this riot exist?? Hopefully, if this game was televised in either city, footage of that riot from the original telecast can be found and posted on You Tube.
@robertwayne8089 жыл бұрын
+altfactor I wish it had been televised back to Texas. We caught very few games on TV back then....a few Astros games a year and even fewer Rangers games. However, I was listening to the game on WBAP, the Rangers flagship station and I remember Dick Risenhoover, one of the Rangers announcers saying what was going on. Nowadays all Rangers games are televised. I wish they had been back then.
@pep5908 жыл бұрын
I think only the richest teams had home games televised in the mid-70's. The Yankees and Cubs did. Plus there were usually only 18 or so road games televised for most teams. Usually on a Friday night and Sunday day. A Eastern or central time zone team never had a night game played on the West Coast televised. And the NBC game of the week had so much more quality to it, than a local broadcast. Most local broadcasts had no slow motion cameras. So different now. I've read that technology makes it so much cheaper today. Sending the signal digitally, etc.
@robertwayne8088 жыл бұрын
That's true! The Astros would televise a few Friday and Sunday road games during the year. And the Rangers would televise only Sunday road games. It was so appropriate that Billy Martin was manager of the Rangers when that happened...LOL. Billy had a reputation for being 'combative' with the Rangers front office and I remember a story about him getting into a fight with the Rangers' traveling secretary, Burt Hawkins, who had been with them since the Washington Senators years. I didn't realize though that Billy was combative with the front office of every team he'd ever been with or would be associated with. I did get a chance to talk with former Rangers outfielder Tom Grieve who said that Billy was a terrific manager when he was with the Rangers.
@pep5908 жыл бұрын
Good ole Billy. lol. Thanks for your input.

you say the richest teams televised home games but out west the Dodgers & Angels never did. It was such a different time as us vintage people know. Only road games at rivals got tv back then.
