I think going more restictive in the classes is something they had to do. Mordhau has just so much freedom that there is no competing with. I think the maps and feel of the weapons is something chiv might be something they could compete with.
@vengefulraven43223 жыл бұрын
Yea, they definitely can compete with maps, Triternion releases new ones very slowly and frankly existing ones could be made better. Weapons would be less competing and more providing different experience I believe, Mordhau is more about readable animations because it's more about sweaty dark souls-tier duels so they can look kinda awkward while in Chiv 2, it just looks so aggressive lol. Even though it can be pretty hard to understand what is happening due to how janky beta looks like in videos, I like the feeling they are going for, will totally try out playing Chivalry.
@TheWorldAsWeAre3 жыл бұрын
I always liked the more restrictive equipment of the first Chiv. It gave a feeling of a more fair and skill based fights compared to the overwhelming variety of stuff that the more experienced players could unlock in mordhau. I absolutely love that they took the counter attack parry bug from Chiv and turned it into an actual feature in Chiv 2, and I'm curious about the changes made to the blocking mechanism. If the held block uses a large amount of stamina, and the hitbox of it is precise enough to not render drags useless I can see it working out as a competitive player.
@vengefulraven43223 жыл бұрын
Well yes, Mordhau is basically chiv 1 but way better. Still, chiv 2 is different from chiv 1 as well as from mordhau, it's not a better and refined version of first game as this role is occupied by Mordhau - it's more of a new approach to the combat system. You make it sound like chiv 2 is a third and superior chiv 1 while it is not, wanted to point that out.

Tweaking will be easier 4/5: Healing/Downed- As you point out, keeps the fight going and more gameplay opportunities than ends. 6: Tackle/sprint attack- Maybe better than the catch up system in mordhau. 7: Dodge- Why not? And yeah people complain about literally anything but dying to them in which case lmaogitrekt 8: Heavy attacks- I think people will pick it up quick and like it 9: Jab- Not sure I'm liking this one in theory, we'll see how it pans out. Interrupts are annoying and having 2? hm
@Samsunaattori3 жыл бұрын
Onething about dodge and why people felt it was cheap in Mordhau: In Mordhau, most players didn't have dodge, so you would default to fighting as if your opponent didn't have it. Dodge felt bad usually because it was a surprice tool that unexpectedly turned around an othervise even fight or because the opponent suddenly had more mobility and disengaged behind his team with it. Both of those situations are not annoying anymore as you know everyone has it and can expect it and you have the same burst mobility as the enemy
@thesheeepjd3 жыл бұрын
Exactly my feelings. If there was some way to know "ah, this guy can dodge" before engaging, you'd be ready for it. But if someone just pulls out a dodge (which due to the meta, nobody expects) - it's annoying.

Now that it's been more or less properly balanced, people dont complain about it anymore. Also a lot less people use it now, i wonder why.
@chadhill4553 жыл бұрын
The short parrying timer was to represent the fact that to blow a blow in real life, it's not as easy as just holding the sword infront of you like a magnet. Instead you have to purposefully move the sword in the way of their attack. If you block high and it's just a feint, they can then follow-up by suddenly striking low. Vice versa. However the parry mechanic just means it easier for them to represent those mechanics without having to develop some sort of positional blocking, which would likely be a lot harder to do.

But over time and especially compared to games like War of the Roses (RIP) it was super unpolished, you had to know console commands just to votekick an annoying player lol! Then in stead of polishing their game after release they seemingly spent all time on making the DLC (which I also loved) but which was even more unpolished. Meanwhile when I got in to Mordhau the UI and networking was much more polished and there is an integrated votekick menu! Animations were also obviously smoother and the game just felt like a higher quality product. The announcement trailer for chiv2 looked pretty bad in terms of clunkiness of the combat but the recent gameplay footage makes it look MUCH better and actually a competitor to Mordhau.

This was exactly my reaction, I commented on their official trailers that I'm disappointed it's on Epic Gays and that I won't be buying it on launch. All i got were multiple fanboys coming out of the woodwork to attack me and defend Torn Banner as if I had just insulted their honor or some shit. It's a valid opinion and a TON of people are steam-only like me, but god forbid you say something "bad" about a game people like. I played the first game for well over a thousand hours and was rank 50 or 51 by the time I quit, I was looking forward to Chiv 2 eventually coming out. Now I'm not gonna buy it until it comes out on steam like a year after launch. We'll see if the game survives that long, looks a lot better than Mirage Arcane Warfare lmao.

I didn't get excited when they announced chivalry 2, but now after playing it... It's just SO GOOD! You forgot to tell that you can attack with stamina cost at all. And I personally have found the combat system way more deep than both mordhau and chivalry 1.
@maxwellketcham92533 жыл бұрын
Can you elaborate on how you believe the combat system is more in depth? I feel like with hold to block that takes out 90% of the chess game that was mordhau and Chiv 1. Drags dont mean anything since they can just hold up the defense. Feints dont mean anything because again, they can just hold block. I think the game is definitely more universally friendly, but more in-depth combat wise it is not.
@AEspiral3 жыл бұрын
@@maxwellketcham9253 I feel the opposite, that the chess game is in chivalry 2. In Mordhau with drags and unlimited feints it's more a guess game than chivalry 2, exactly cause of that chivalry 2 duels can take a long time. But all the strategic elements are there. I really like chivalry 2 combat. To me it feels way more real. Instead of the guess game. In Mordhau Having the initiative is way too much of one advantage.

@mw57693 жыл бұрын
So the game looks worse than mordhau, has a more restrictive class system, way less customization, clunkier combat, full blocking instead of timed parrying. On the other hand it is more noob friendly and chaotic fun for large maps. Honestly probably gonna stick with mordhau for these reasons, plus I already see Chiv 2's clunkier combat going straight back to the spinning tops.
@kisbiflos3 жыл бұрын
While it gives you less freedom in building your character, it gives you much more freedom in combat. Anyone can dodge, there are punches and kicks, holding guard makes sense and is also an extra move, there are tackles, heavy attacks, special attacks. Animations are clunky and I hope they refine them, but the thing is these are some good changes. We still have Mordhau, we do not need an exact copy of it, we can have 2 different games. Honestly I feel like I will go back to Mordhau only for duels and 1v1 while I will play team battles in Chivalry. Cosmetics are something I do not really care about, but we all know how it goes these days. just give them few months and it will be full of cosmetics. We will see about spinning tops, but dont forget you can just jab someone if their attack takes too long or just hold your guard longer.

Disagree about the realism of blocking while mord isn't fully realistic ,holding a sword up isn't blocking if its in one spot (in chiv 2) ,mord was more realistic in that you had to time a block and the angle a bit aswell as it was coming in like you were meeting their weapon mid air as they are striking ,holding my sword on front of me and letting my character just obsorb hits from all angles is not at all realistic.

Yes. The different variants of classes have their own specific sets of customization for the armor (although it's limited in comparison to Mordhau). Knights can change the heavy plate they're wearing, vanguards their chainmail/gambeson, and footmen their half-plate/chainmail/gambeson, and archers their leather/cloth scraps. Here's to hoping they unlock customization at a later date, because what they had was limiting compared to its offshoot Mordhau, but better than customization in other games. In my mind, the whole point to how blocking worked in Mordhau had less to do with you "arms getting tired" and more the fact that most weapons, by themselves, present very poor forms of passive cover. Look at the way the sword is held during the block animation. Sure, the guard looks good against jabs and left-sides swings. But the guard is open at almost every other angle. Your head and midriff are completely exposed. Wide thigh cuts starting from the bottom up are also open. A shield, on the other hand, doesn't suffer this problem. Just point the thing in a vague area of the attack, and it'll block everything. The bigger the surface area, the better this effect becomes. Conversely, the surface area of most weapons are so small, you can't realistically hide behind them. If I think that you're going to cower behind that particular guard, and wait for me to strike, I'm going to readjust my swing to either hit where you guard is weak, or feint into something that will draw your guard out, and get an even better strike. Now, Mordhau's animations are not great. Combined with draws and accels, and keeping track of what everyone's weapon is doing from a first-person view, and it's a recipe for frustration. Cheap hits are real, and lag can also cause whole attacks to just completely nullify. So, it's a kind of trade-off between the two games.

I actually really like the freedom of Mordhau when it comes to character creation, It allows me to create something that is truly Mine. Also, this keeps the replayability up, because you grind those damned coins to unlock new cosmetics, or new weapons for custom characters. I remember in Chiv 1 it was always the experience of coming in, playing for couple of hours, and leaving the game for weeks because there is nothing to keep you in the game.
