If you are interested in becoming a private pilot you probably already know that flying is quite expensive. That's why we have put together a list of the 10 Cheapest Ultralight Aircraft you can buy. The aircraft are all in the ultralight aircraft category (USA) and some can even be operated without a license according to the Part 103 regulation. As always, we tried to vary the Aircraft from some more expensive ones to the cheapest we could possible find for you. So no matter what your budget is you will find an aircraft that just fits you. Some of the ultralights can be purchased already assembled and ready out of the boss. But most of them will require some assembly from you which you can do at home with basic tools. Please keep in mind, that the prices in the video are sometimes for only the Kit and the engines have to be purchased separately. We decided to not include the engine price in the total cost because depending on your preference for the engine the price could change by a lot.

To fly a Part 103 Ultralight in the US, a Pilots License is not mandatory. However, it does make sense to take training to solo standard.

@@BeyondFacts for the record most of these aircraft are not ultralights as defined by part 103. They fall into the category of Light Sport Pilot aircraft and require a license to fly.

The electric ultralight mentioned had a tuned pipe for a two stroke hanging off of it in every shot shown. Also the prices seemed an awful lot out of date. Many of the models shown are not classified as ultralights in any country I know of. Does this guy actually research any facts?

This particular Quicksilver isn't an Ultralight, need to brush up on what an "ultralight" is...single seat, 254lbs or less, no more than 5 gal (US), 63 MPH max speed. Please stop misleading! Also, Merlin Light is awesome but not cheap! It will retail for around $35k with all the items mentioned in your video. Sorry, one more correction, 1100R is NOT an ultralight! the Max 103 is the only authorized Ultralight currently being offered by Team.

Beyond Facts is a good name for the poster since there are so many factual errors in this video. First example is the first aircraft in the video, the two seat Quicksilver Sport is NOT an ultralight and requires a license to fly, ultralights cannot carry more than one person.

The Merlin line was the same. They showed and talked as if they were all the same. And much of the footage was NOT for the "ultralight" craft. So they were misleading or outright wrong about the two first ones they showed. And I have not even reached past those two yet. Click bait I guess. And that is a shame since folks would expect to get the truth... but nope.

@@alienconn yeah I heard about the two seaters. Apparently there is a clause in far part 103 that lets you fly two place ultralights. I assume that means two Seat ultralights. I can’t find the clause though. But I did find something about waivers. Maybe if you apply for a waiver, you can fly ultralights with two seats. Of course that is only the case in America. Many other countries around the world require people to get a license for an ultralight for example the United Kingdom. Australia used to be like that, but I have recently seen online a new part from our civil aviators called casr part 103. Meaning that we now know longer need a license for single seater ultralights. And we have a higher maximum weight than in America. And no fuel limit. So that’s good. I don’t ever know if we will extend to allowing two seaters to be flown with out a license. But I don’t know if America even has that ability, and at least it’s a start over here in Australia.

You can own heavier ultralights if they have a parachute system. I believe the merlin is heavier than ultralight category but FAA exeomts it if theres a parachute.

with the two engines just put one on each side of the wing and make a powered glider. you want go up throttle up, you want turn right throttle up the right engine and down the left one and turn left vis versa. it would be easier then flying a quad copter.

Many of the planes featured in this video are not ultralites. Ultralites have to be single seat, they can't have more than a 5-gallon fuel capacity, and the maximum airspeed is 55 knots at maximum power in level flight. You showed two that have two seats, one with a 6+ gallon fuel tank, one with wing tanks, and several with maximum speeds greater than 55 knots. Why bother doing a video on ultralites if the planes you show don't meet the regulations?

Videos such as this are thoroughly misleading. Aircraft in the ultralight category, the the USA, according to FAR Part 103, must carry only a single passenger (unless used exclusively for ultralight pilot training), cannot exceed 65 knots in maximum cruise airspeed, cannot carry more that 5 gallons in the active fuel cell and can only operate from sun-up to sundown. Some of the models shown in this video are LSA (light sport aircraft) and still require pilot training and certification. The only difference in the certification of the operation of many of these listed aircraft here is that an LSA license does not require a pilot flight physical. Additional limitations include maximum airspeed, hours of operating and limitations of number of passengers. Other countries have relaxed rules regarding "ultralights," but to be an ultralight aircraft in the United States of America it must qualify under FAR Part 103. This video fails to mention these important stipulations and therefore, I consider them to be inaccurate and Click-bait.

Fortunately, when operated from the right airports, (after you have been around a bit you'll figure out which ones I'm talking about) the "stipulations" that this individual is all butt hurt about won't be a major stumbling block. The ideal set-up of course is 10 acres or so that you can turn into your OWN airport

@@BlueMax333 No license is required, that is 100% true. But, if you have 2 seats, exceed the weight limits, add extra fuel, etc. Then you are flying an LSA, not an ultralight, and if the FAA were to catch you, they can fine you. There are Many "fat" ultralights out there flying, the FAA doesn't tend to go after them unless at airshows or they were already checking out other aircraft at an airport. they just don't have the resources to chase them all down. But they can fine you if they catch you.

The part 103 requirements aren't super duper strict, but your limited to a 250ish pound aircraft. Keeping the aircraft in weight and balance with a pilot that weighs nearly double the aircraft is not very feasible. Even in normal GA your going to be hard pressed to find trainers that will happily lift 6-700 pounds..... Might I suggest, if you want to get into flying losing a bit of weight? The Minimax he mentioned at the end has been used several times as a goal for people to lose weight successfully and you can start building one for less then a grand!

I love all the self appointed health gurus who know all about people. Your why your local G.A. Airports are as busy as a graveyard, when they were once a bustle of activity. You snitch on each other like inner city gangbangers right to the FAA .I'm 6'5" 350 built like an NFL lineman, I used to do strongman competition's. I graduated high school at 275 and was super lean. The FAA uses 175 as the adult male average wieght, it's been 225 for 30yrs now. Sir I fly trikes where a 103 trike will often have a 400lb useful load. And any decent Sport aviation trike will have a 500 to 600lb useful load. If you want a traditional Airplane style once again you can sport pilot no medical needed 20hrs training and the Millhalland double eagle kit is specifically designed for larger pilots, they are almost impossible to get used everyone loves theirs. So sir dont listen to these fools. THE ONLY SMALL BANTY ROOSTER WITH A RIGHT TO AN ATTITUDE IS A FIGHTER PILOT AND MOST OF THOSE COMMENTING DRIVE RENTAL SPAM CANS AT BEST AS A RETIRED CRASH FIRE RESCUEMAN WE WOULD BET ON THE NEXT WANNA BE TOP GUN WHO HAD 150 SKILLS BUT HAD A BIRD WAY PAST THEIR ABILITIES , AND ALMOST EVERY ONE AUGERED IN OR TRIED SCUD RUNNING AND BOUGHT THE FARM. @@chrisfrank5331 Im not trying to be a health guru, Im stating simple facts. A traditional part 103 is not going to safely lift a pilot who weighs nearly double it, just ante gonna happen. Powered parachutes wont care, and I have zero experience with trykes so wont talk on those. As to airports being dead, yeah, they are, it sucks. Im of the opinion its mostly an issue of both precieved and actual cost. People think planes are ridiculously expensive, which new ones are, and the ridiculous cost of "certified" replacement parts. Ive been flying in airplanes since I was 2 weeks old, and flying the things for quiet a bit of time since, Ive never flown an airplane that was younger then me.... Theres something seriously wrong with that. Also, some really snobbish people in aviation but thats any hobby

For ten thousand dollars you can build a proper aircraft , what is insde, tin, aluminium seats woods and a wooden propeller and a motor, all together it does not cost more than ten thousand dollars for a good aircraft , the ones you are talking about , the material inside , is not more than 300 to 400 dollars but then they will not sell it cheap but it is still built very cheap.

Let’s play “find the statements that let you know they don’t know what they’re talking about”: “That’ll get you 65hp in no time” “The plane comes with two battery packs, each with a 3.1 kWh” “The motor is a 20kW continuous, which means you won’t get annoyed every time you drive your ultralight” I skipped over the planes that were obviously not FAA part 103….this is just a sample… BUYER BEWARE: these people don’t know what they’re saying. Corrections: “The [whatever the motor model was] has 65 hp, that’ll get you flying in no time” (I guess?) “….each with a 3.1 kWh capacity” (sort of fixed it) “The motor is rated at 20kW continuous, which will allow for cruising speeds of [whatever it is]”

2 seats not a ultralight To be considered an ultralight vehicle, must weigh less than 155 pounds; while a powered vehicle must weigh less than 254 pounds; is limited to 5 U.S. gallons of fuel; must have a maximum speed of not more than 55 knots; and must have a poweroff stall speed of no more than 24 knots.

​ @428 Renegade Your reply to me, "No license is required, that is 100% true." is false and misleading. Read regulations governing FAR Part 103. Braking the law in the hope that FAA "just don't have the resources to chase them" is naive and dangerous. The insurance company will investigate and will deny your claim In the event of an accident. That can cost you millions and could put you in jail. Do the research and be a responsible KZbinr.

Ultraligths are one of the most overpriced pieces of technology I know of. Ffs you can get 1 cessna 152 for the price of some of those and a Cessna is even better.

@@foty8679 let's be honest, as a ligth sport pilot that recently acquired his license, I can say that WE should get more training because at the end of the day the aircraft we fly are lighter yeah, but some are more advance than let's say, a Cessna 152.

Ultralights are obsolete, there are cheaper and safer ways to fly now. You no longer have to be in a cockpit to enjoy flying. Digital FPV, quad copters, long rand RC wings, all way cheaper and way safer and put you in the air. I bought my first ultralight aairplane for $38, my second for $99, and the third I got free... the fourth one offered to me free I passed on... because well I already had 3. Airplanes are big and hard to store and move around. You really don't want one. Trust me. Just the engine maintenance alone is a PITA and will consume gobs of your life. Then there's fabric. Fixing bent metal tubes. Sleeving broken holes. Rust. Tires. Allt he really fun flying is being done in RC... you literally carry your "plane" in your hand and can take off from and fly almost anywhere.

@@computerex I have three airplane projects. They were a total waste of time. They never got me flying. I've been flying plenty. Straight and level to a gps arrow, yawn. Most dramatic manuever you'll do in most flights is a coordinated turn. But it's not even in the same league as rocking a fully aerobatic quadcopter. I turn at least 1,000 times in every flight, not to mention... spins, rolls, and everything else in between you can do with a pair of sticks.

@@choppergirl With all due respect, comparing flying an airplane to a RC is silly. They are nothing a like, and aren't mutually exclusive. If you like aerobatics then perhaps you can get into that type of flying. You can join a club and rent. The visceral sensation of being in the plane, and the sense of accomplishment and the confidence you get from executing a planned flight is awesome and there is nothing like it.
