Hey Chuck, i have a question... Whenever i see a picture of some cardinals, they appear to wear the pectoral cross a certain way. It appears that the cross is connected to a button on the cassock, while the chain hangs down pass it. A very notable example of this is Pope John Paul ii. In every picture i see of him, he wears the pectoral cross that way, i find it someone what interesting, but also very odd, because idk why they wear it that way. If you have any knowledge of what the name of that fashion "type" is called like how there's the Rabat collar and the tab collar, and the Roman collar, is there a specific name as to which a pope or cardinal wears the pectoral cross, AND what is the meaning behind that way of wearing it? Thank you!

CORRECTION: the shirt he is wearing is called a tab collar shirt not a Roman collar shirt a Roman collar is a full white band collar with special Peice over it called a collarette which has a noch in it to mimic the tab shirt leaving a small bit of white along the top of the collar

Most of those clerical shirts are made with horrible hot material . I use knit short sleeve shirts (With collar of course)

Question, if you are not a pastor, can you wear the collar? It sounds strange, but I have a Biblical Studies degree, am part of a healing team at church, and I'd love it if people outside the church would see me as someone they could come to for prayer or healing.

A bilabial studies degree does not make you an ordained priest/pastor. If you want people to come to you for “prayer and healing” then go through the usual process of getting ordained by the Catholic church or other denominations that wear the Clergy collar. So, to answer your question: NO. You can’t and you definitely shouldn’t wear a clergy collar if you’re not part of the ordained clergy.
