I just cut my first cutting. It is 3 nodes with 3 new leaves. They are BIG leaves. I put it in a mix of perlite and peat. Does it need to be heavily moist? I used rotting hormone but I noticed on day 2 the leaves look droopy. So, I added dampened the soil and added more rooting hormone.

Help! My fiddle tipped over in the wind and its main stem broke. I think I can cut the stem at the break and propagate the stem in water with a growth promoter. Does this sound like something I can possibly do? Would I put a growth hormone powder on the remaining stem that is looking very sad in the pot? My fiddle is outside right now and is thriving very nicely. Thank you for your advise.

I saw a different video a few months back and it didnt say how many leafs to leave on the cut. I left 5 and for 8 weeks, nothing happened. Found this video and cut two leafs off and in 1 week roots started growing! Now i have 5 long roots each with tiny roots. Time to plant in soil! Thank you

Wow, I feel blessed! I watched one of your earlier videos and all my 3 cuttings have taken. The roots are over 2 inches long now so I'll pot them up today. The middle one seems to be burnt (must have been too light a spot that actually got sun even though it's winter here) so I'll take those leaves off and put the growing plant somewhere else safer. Thanks for your video!!

I made a cutting this summer and used your rooting hormone and got nice roots. I planted in a small jar and then moved to a 6" pot then roots were full. Here I am in December and the leaves are green and happy....but no growth. When I made the cut there was a new bud and it browned up during the rooting process....when/how will it grow?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 жыл бұрын
Beverly that is great to hear you had a successful propagation! Newly potted propagated cuttings sometimes need more moisture in their soil compared with more mature plants that can tolerate the soil drying out in between waterings. Also, new cuttings when potted will focus energy on growing the root system vs. new leaf growth. Patience will be key and in time, you will have a larger plant that is throwing out new leaves.

Can you use powder rooting hormone if you are water propagating?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant

Yes just keep changing the water when it gets murky. You would dip the cutting into the powder hormone before placing it down into the water. Happy Growing!

I know this is 2 years old, but I have a bit of a complicated question about an existing propagation. I beheaded one stalk of my mother plant because it was getting too tall. (I think I actually have a bambino.) I rooted the cutting in water and gave it to a friend who is taking spectacular care of it. There have been zero issues- it actually looks lusher than the mother plant. Trouble is, there were a lot of leaves on that cutting and I didn’t know at the time that you shouldn’t leave more than 3 leaves on a cutting you intend to prop. It’s been nearly a year now, and it’s thriving, but not producing new growth. Since it’s doing well and fully rooted in soil, do I still need to cut down to get it to put out new growth?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 4 ай бұрын
Great question! It sounds like a really healthy established plant now! I would suspect the growth has slowed/stopped due to the root system outgrowing the current pot it is in. Have her go up one pot size. This will allow more room for the root system to grow to be able to sustain new leaves / new branch growth. Happy Growing!

The stem developed white bumps 2-3 weeks ago, but haven’t grown past that and now the leaves are turning brown. I change the water about 1 a week and dip the stem in rooting hormone. Cutting is in a well let place, but water is out of direct sunlight. Any additional tips appreciated!

It’s been a month since I took my cutting and put them in water. Both of my cutting have 4 leaves so now I’ll strip them down to 2. Next I’m going to replace the water and add more rooting hormone. Question: what are the white spots (almost barnacle looking) around the portion of the cutting in the water?

@@FiddleLeafFigPlant thanks! I’ve got seven cuttings in a 50/50 mix of peat and perlite. Have them under a make shift “humidity tent” fashioned out of a plastic drop cloth. Pretty much all of my parameters match your video here, but 3 of the cuttings are starting to significantly brown, and 1 has been very wilty since day one. 3 are holding up. We will see how it turns out! Thanks again. I look forward to spending time with your channel

I can get them to root but they have all died once I get them into soil. Don’t know what I’m doing wrong! I use potting soil, I don’t think I overwater 🤷🏻‍♀️ Do you recommend a fairly small pot?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Жыл бұрын
Yes, they should be in a small pot to start with great drainage. Keep the soil evenly moist for the first month and in a spot where it is getting the most indirect bright light. That will help establish the root system in the soil. I recommend to keep trying!

Hi Claire, I propagated my fiddle fig about 5 weeks ago. I see noticed the popcorns on the stem 3 weeks in but nothing has happened since. Is that normal? Also, I did not use growth hormone. Can I still use it now? I’m propagating it in water. Thank you :)
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Жыл бұрын
Hi Karina, yes that can happen, just keep it in the water and in time you will see roots form from the popcorn roots that have started to grow. You can definitely add a rooting hormone to the water as well.

Hi Claire, I’m currently propagating my fiddle leaf fig (first timer) two cuttings, 1 leaf each in one jar. Started the process Dec. 9 but I’m not seeing any popcorn bumps or any root growth. In fact, I am now seeing fuzzy cloudy stuff around the stems of the cuttings. Do you think it might be some sort of fungus? Should I give up and toss them? Not sure what to do but thank you so much in advance. Any advice will help 😊

Keep going! I recommend freshening the water and when it begins to look murkey, change the water again. Sometimes it takes awhile for popcorn roots to show. Keep it up!

You said not to many cuttings 1-3 then you said maybe take 5 , then you said not by a window, but need a heating pad can you explain please...
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 жыл бұрын
1-3 refers to the amount of leaves on a cutting. 5 refers to the number of cuttings you should try to ensure at least one successful propagation attempt. I do recommend keeping the cutting not in direct sun so the water does not become to hot however, using a heating pad underneath the cutting (to warm the cutting to around 70-75 degrees) can be helpful in growing the roots quickly. I try and explain these differences in the video. Thank you for watching!
