I want that bautiful shine on my new Fiddle Leaf like you have on yours. Is it okay to clean the leaves on my new Fiddle Leaf? Water does not lead to shiny leaves. Is leaf shine healthy for my plants? By the way, I love your content. You always offer concise, useful, advice without a lot of unnecessary back stories or fluff. I really appreciate that. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and love of Fiddle Leafs.

I have five Fiddleleaf figs and they are absolutely beautiful and amazing and they are growing crazy. I am now going to be putting them in clusters like you suggested. I have two that are fairly close to the same size and they’re going to go in one nice size pot and then I have three that are smaller. They’re all going to go into a pot together and I tell people that they’re very sociable. I talk to my plants but I specially talk to my fiddle leaf figs. I get funny looks; however, they all look really beautiful!

My Fiddle Leaf when I first purchase it was about 12 in. Now it is 4 plus feet has one stem. Will it ever grow another branch or stem? I'm very proud how it has grown and my neighbor and family are amazed when they come to my house and see how much it's grown. Thank you for your videos, you have helped me immensely.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Жыл бұрын
That is fantastic to hear! Branching usually occurs when there has been some sort of injury to the main branch. Pruning, notching, and pinching are all methods to create branches on your plant. I would allow your plant to grow another foot or so taller before pruning to create branches. Once pruned, the main stalk will not grow any taller, but the branches that form will. This was exactly what I needed to get my plant back on track! I am new to the houseplant seen and I really love it. In the beginning I wanted to touch, handle, and make changes to my plants daily which you probably know almost killed them…well killed a few😢. My Fiddle leaf has been an amazing trooper. He survived being spilled over, spider mites, and root rot. I am lucky my plant has weathered the storm as I learn what’s best. With all that being said and feeling that I’ve tackled all the things that cause problems now I’m having difficulty getting him to grow again. I’ve downsized his pot, switched the soils to what you mentioned in the video, and really given a whole lot of tlc. The thing that is missing is a good fertilizer and providing nutrients on a schedule…I’ve heard so many places that I shouldn’t fertilize in the winter but I think that might be incorrect or inaccurate information so thanks for the info I’m excited to see these results!! Please respond to my email because I have a few questions for you as well!! Thank you!

These plants are hard to kill but silly me put mine in a glazed ceramic pot and watered it. The leaves raised up and were happy and a few days later the tree is almost bald. I pulled the plant out and put LECA between the root ball and the wet soil then mixed LECA and soil around the plant. Unfortunately, I broke off a part of the stem and thankfully there was no rot. They are also so easy to propagate, just plop the leaves in water and put in a warm spot and watch them get crazy roots.

Hi! This is a great resource. Thank you! I recently trimmed off a few leaves that had brown around the edges, especially the top of the leaf where it attaches to the branch. I realize it was under watered at one point. My question is this. I trimmed so that a little of the leaf stem is still attached (and the poor thing bled). Should I leave those well enough alone now? I trimmed 3 leaves this way.

I just bought a fiddle leaf tree. It's a little over 6 feet tall. Do I water from the top or use the bottom watering tray? Should I spritz the leaves in addition to watering? Should I water from the top or use the bottom watering tray of the pot?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Жыл бұрын
I recommend watering from the top and ensuring the water is throughly going through all of the soil and out the bottom drainage holes. Then wait to water again when they top inches of soil are dry. You can use a small humidifier in the room if you feel you would like to increase the humidity. I don't recommend misting the plant directly. Happy Growing!

If your fig plant has dropped all it's leaves and stem doesn't seem brittle, is there any chance of it coming back? Hi Lauren, thank you for being such a loyal follower! Is it the soil that is not draining fast enough or the pot? After repotting the plants can be a bit temperamental but within a few weeks should perk back up. Wait to water again when your top inches of soil are dry and make sure it is sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window. The light will help it along after the repotting process. For more, you are welcome to join and post some pictures inside our helpful fiddle leaf fig community! Fiddleleaffigplant.com/community

Mine has a couple leaves at the top that seem to be cupping upward. The bottom few leaves aren't shiny and one seems to have an edge cupping downward. I have it in a plastic "pot" with quite a few small drainage holes. I repotted it from the grower's pot because it appeared to be outgrowing that pot. I added perlite to the indoor potting soil. It is about 2' tall and about 1' from an exterior glass door that never gets opened, but does get some good light. The soil always feels cool rather than moist. My other plants need water 2x/week. When should I first start "feeding" it (just got it a week ago) and does the rest seem okay to you?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Жыл бұрын
Great questions! I would give your plant a few weeks to acclimate to its new home. Place the plant directly in front of and up against the window. Even 1' away from the window will not be enough light for it to thrive. Water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure the water drains properly out the bottom drainage holes. It should do well with those tips!

Hi! I have a very healthy fiddle leaf and I have been making only the mistake of moving the plant (to avoid drafts.) the plant has a lot of healthy leaves at the bottom and has grown straight up because I did not know until now how to notch, which I will do right away. It is about 2.5 ft tall. I don't know if I should prune the leaves at the bottom to give it a more tree-like look or not. The leaves are so healthy, it seems a shame. What do you think?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Жыл бұрын
Hi Fran, it depends on the look that you are going for! It is fine to prune bottom leaves so that your plant looks more tree like. Just remember not to remove more than 10% of the total amount of leaves at one time so the plant does not go into shock. Happy Growing!

Hi! I purchased my flf from Lowe's so I'm not sure exactly what type of soil was used other than the mix does appear to have orchid bark, but I can't tell if fertilizer is in the premix. So how do I determine how to fertilize my tree? Do you fertilize in the winter?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 3 жыл бұрын
You could try contacting Lowes to see if the fertilizer they use in their trees includes a slow release fertilizer! Or if you see tiny green balls, then most likely the soil includes some type of fertilizer. If the soil is free of slow-release fertilizer granules, then you are able to fertilize once the plant has acclimated to its new environment in your home (about 4 weeks). The FLF Plant Food is safe and gentle enough to be used all year long. If the conditions in your home are kept consistent throughout the year, there won't be a need to avoid fertilizing in the winter, because the plant won't really know it is the winter season. This video can help explain that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXaqm6N9jLFqbM0 Here is a link to the FLF plant food as well: www.amazon.com/Fiddle-Leaf-Plant-Ficus-Lyrata/dp/B07BG98GQD?ref_=ast_sto_dp

I have a gorgeous fiddle leaf, it's about 4 feet high and it seems happy in the spot where I put it, because it is growing 2 new leaves which got so big so fast, and I see a third little one coming out, my question/predicament is that my place is very small, and right now been Summer it's ok, but I live in Canada which is freezing in the winter, my balcony door is about 6 feet from where the plant is and I step out on my balcony about 15 times a day, even in the winter, so so far so good but when the winter comes I hope it doesn't affect my plant. It sounds like your plant is very happy and healthy! It loves your care routine since it is pushing out new growth! I don't recommend misting as it does not raise the relative humidity to make a difference and it can cause the leaves to pucker at the edges if the excess water evaporates.

hi there just a wee question regarding #6 regarding proximity to air drafts. In particular against a fan or air conditioner... aren't these plants exposed to the forces of nature which often has sporadic winds and drafts (especially during monsoon) or even getting pulled/nudged occasionally by animals? Some other commentators reckon to occasionally hold the trunk of the tree and shake/wobble it (gently of course) to promote strong rooting. Its probably non too crucial, but just wondering as a concerned parent :) Kind regards.
@FiddleLeafFigPlant

Hi Yong, the reason we advise against exposing your FLF to vent drafts is not due to the movement of the plant. You are correct that in the wild, the FLF gets tossed around. Wiggling its trunk is a good practice that can actually help strengthen the tree: fiddleleaffigplant.com/how-to-strengthen-and-thicken-a-fiddle-leaf-fig-tree-trunk-video/ The issue with vents is the temperature that comes out of them, either too hot or too cold - extreme temperatures can shock your fiddle leaf fig. Vents also make the air much drier, which does not agree with a FLF, since it likes some humidity.

I have a fiddle leaf fig for about a year or so now and she’s starting to get dark spots on the edges is that due to root rot? I have noticed my MIL tries to water my plants too much and is hard to tell when she does that since they are in the living room and dry up rather quickly. But I fear she has stagnant water in the bottom so I drilled holes under her pots to drain because that was one issue

Hi Pamela, that is a great question! It is true that fiddle leaf figs need a lot of light however, if they are not properly acclimated to direct sunlight, the leaves can burn quickly. Best advice is to place it right up against your brightest window. If it has direct sunlight coming through, a sheer curtain can change that direct light to indirect light. Happy Growing!

Hi Ingrid, watering twice a week sounds like a lot. If your plant is in a pot indoors that would be too much water for the root system. Hello!!! I just got my first FLFP and it is in perfect condition so I don't want that to change. I have perfect big NE sun with large windows where I will keep it. It needs to be watered and transplanted because the roots are coming out. Should I water it before transplanting? With just plain water? I got it from a lady that knows her plants & they were very well kept for, so I'm assuming its been fertilized.. Do you ever use semi-hydroponics for your plants? I am switching all mine to that. I'm a bit nervous to transplant to SHP's for my FPFP and my new monstera. Do you have any recommendations for semi-hydroponics? Thank you!!
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 3 жыл бұрын
Hi there! What great questions and congrats on your new fiddle leaf fig! Since it is a new plant, I don't recommend repotting. That may put added stress on your plant as it acclimates to its new home. I recommend repotting when your roots are coming out the bottom drainage holes and beginning to wrap around the inner edge of your pot. When watering, you can use plain water, distilled may be best depending on your location. This video will be helpful! kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGq1fZ57jpdsg6c Also, I do not do semi-hydroponics for fiddle leaf figs as their root systems can develop fungal or bacterial root infections if they are not in a medium that is fast draining and the root system stays too wet for too long. That said, there are others out there who grow in LECA which may be an avenue for you to explore. I've had my fiddle for a few years now. It's about 4-5 feet tall now and has been my pride and joy as it's always been beautifully green, healthy and happy. I became sick recently and I had moved the fiddle and a couple of other plants to the middle of the patio to water them and give them sun. I wasn't aware of the sunburn issue and sure enough, my beautiful plant is now sunburned all over. It's very upsetting bc almost half it it is brown and burned. Hearing you say the leaves will never recover is quite depressing. It's almost to the point where I don't like looking at it anymore bc it's brown all over :/ I'm angry at myself for leaving them out like I did but I was sick for 2 days and it never crossed my mind. Is there any way to remove ugly leaves and create leaf growth in the same area of the removed leaves? I'm terrible with plants and am almost to the point where I'm gonna switch to fakes. That is a tough one! New growth will not appear lower down where leaves used to be. You can try notching the bare section to encourage new growth and branches. That is if your plant has a thick, sturdy stem that is woody and covered in bark. Otherwise, you may want to prune it down to the height where you would like branching and have it grow from there. Good luck!

Aren't most stomata present under the leaves ? So why is it harmful to apply coconut oil on leaves ? Also, isn't coconut oil less viscous ? How does a thin oil clog pores ?
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 3 жыл бұрын
Over time the oil will clog the pores and inhibit the process of photosynthesis. Best to clean the leaves with distilled water and a microfiber cloth or consider one of our natural products.

Yes! They love being outside under a covered patio or pergola. As long as they aren't left in direct sun and the temperatures do not get too hot, they will love it!

my biggest fiddle which i purchased that tall size for 200$. Is dying after a year even after repotting it, so now i've spend over100$ in supplies. I got ur brand plant food n root food,.coconut bark, smart gravel n organic soil to try to keep it alive. This fiddles give me so much trouble too much effort time n money to take care of them. I hate it is like the one who needs the most care n still pays me back bad. ALL my other rubber plants are so tall n dont even need much care. FIDDLEs are too fragile sensitive n require all premium care.

They can be known as finicky plants but if you leave them in a bright sunny spot (not direct sunlight) and leave them alone I am sure yours will bounce back and thrive! Water when the top inches of soil are dry and make sure it is sitting right up against your brightest window. Even when they are pulled back 1 foot or more that is not enough light for them to thrive. Join our helpful community to post for more support! facebook.com/groups/fiddleleaffigplantresource

It's time for me to report our FLF. I have not been able to find nursing pits larger that 12 in. Any suggestions where I could get one?

Amazon may be a good place to search for ones that are larger. Key is to find one that has multiple holes on the bottom (not the sides).

My fiddle plant got some new growth however I have one stem that lost all the leaves and the stem is dead

Sorry to hear about the stem! Cut it down to where you see sap and new branches and growth will grow just below the point where you make the chop. It will bounce back!

Hi I would love to know why my leaves split or tear and what to do. Thank you
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Margo, is the air dry in the room where your plant is? Low humidity can cause leaves to tear. When new leaf buds are opening up, you can gently mist only those new leaf buds so that when they unfurl, they do not stick to themselves and cause a split or tear as they are opening. Happy Growing!

Hi Claire, my FLF is not doing so hot right now and I’m looking into purchasing your FLF root supplement. I’m wondering if I need to purchase the FLF food as well or will one or the other work? Thank you!

Great question! Our root supplement can be used to help with any root infection issue that might be happening. Our fiddle leaf fig plant food is a fertilizer that will aid in new growth on your plant. Certified 3-1-2 NPK, it is the best ratio for fiddle leaf fig plants.

I am so frustrated.... In Nursery it looks healthy after 2-3 months in my home plants any plant doesn't want to survive....
@FiddleLeafFigPlant
@FiddleLeafFigPlant Жыл бұрын
It most likely is due to a lack of light. When we bring these plants into our homes, they lose nearly 50% of the light they have access to at the nurseries. Not to worry, make sure it is sitting directly in front of and up against your brightest window. Water when the top inches of soil are dry and ensure your water is draining properly out the bottom drainage holes. Over watering is first cause, fungul infection is second and low light is third. Check these three please.
