Hard work you guys! I’d say use a measure that’s comfortable and familiar to you… I use a pulp whip on the back of my saws. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! I have a Mingo marker- can’t say I’m a fan… blessings, Jeff and Leslie.

@anastasiostongas8217 Жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right, I see a lot of people pushing the saw into the wood, instead of just touching the saw onto the wood and let the saw do its job
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
Heck ya let the saw do the cutting i pd alot for that saw it needs to cut without me pushing it but it also needs a sharp chain to cut
@craighanson2983 Жыл бұрын
Why do they put the dog spikes on chainsaws then?
@anastasiostongas8217 Жыл бұрын
@@craighanson2983 i use them mostly for felling when the weight of the saw is pointing perpendicular to the cut, then ok I exert a force, and for stability. For vertical cuts I prefer not to put pressure on the saw, at least this is how I learned to use the saw, maybe I'm wrong.
@RussellAinsworth Жыл бұрын
Good job done. I use the zip tie method in the bush but find them hard to use cutting piles so I tried your stick method and once I got the hang of it, that’s the way I’ll be cutting on piles to get the most uniform cuts. Note to anyone, what’s the harm in trying new things it may work for you if not at least you tried.

@Brian-Outdoors Жыл бұрын
The wire ties like Chris In The Woodyard uses are an easy way to mark the log for quick fast cutting. The magnetic marker that attaches to your bar looks really nice and fast way to mark the whole log then cut. Not sure about a tape measure or that laser that always needs charging and looks awkward and slow. Thanks for the video.
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
The zip ties work great but all the other ways require ya to walk the length of the log to mark it then walk back to cut ea spot . The zip ties an stick are the only ones that dont . Ive used both an like either of them just as much .
@Brian-Outdoors Жыл бұрын
@@AllenFamilyFirewoodagree on the walking part. The stick requires you to put the saw down to your side before each cut and the zip ties work better in one direction than the other though you don’t have to put the saw down to your side. Thanks for your comment.

@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
Yup the safety police can be a lil much sometimes but it is what it is im sure they mean well . If its not raining is ben so humid an muggy that just thinking about splitting wood makes ya sweat

@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
Yes they work great ive used them before an i like them just as much as the stick
@Mark-Marine Жыл бұрын
I’m remiss to comment on your method of measuring your cuts, but your method is slower and harder (on you) than some of the other methods you mentioned. The important thing to remember is that working with wood impacts us more negatively the older we get. That young buck Heath is only in his 40s - so don’t try keeping up with that pup lol. Using a Mingo Marker on straight wood with rough bark is great. Shagbark Hickory or smooth bark wood - not so much as the wheel tends to slide around. The laser I have but haven’t tried. Phil, all I know is packing any saw around while you mark is tiring (though the laser may offset that with the fact that you’re able to cut at the same time). Whatever you do, even if you keep doing the same thing, do what you’re comfortable with 👍🏻
@AllenFamilyFirewood Жыл бұрын
Thanks Mark im most comfortable with the stick mostly because its always in my hand as i walk across the wood pile cutting . With the paint or tape measure id have to walk ea log across the pile to mark then go get the saw an walk the log again to cut it . Alot of times i can have 7 or 8 logs up there an they get crossed up so that alone would make the tape measure or paint thing not work .
@KevinHirtz-ct1xw Жыл бұрын
Like Chris in the woodyard use a zip tie measured to your length of wood with some bright tape on the end .I think his is like 16 inch long

If you have tree length wood an its all in neat piles an its strait wood the paint works great but i have tree service wood that aint strait an im always dumping 4 or 5 logs up on top of a pile of rounds that i have to walk across .
