Lots of videos like these ignore the most important part. The timing. Most announcements for programs, services or features were either: 1. In preview for a select few 2. Coming in Summer 3. Coming later this year - google docs "help me write" feature for example 4. Might be behind a paywall which we don't know yet So right now, Google is playing catch up in my opinion. Microsoft is ahead, because of the work OpenAI has done in the past 3+ years to make GPT-4. It took OpenAI 6 months after training the model to release it to make it good. That is so much time that Google probably won't have. Even with thousands of employees it will take them time, which they don't have because investors and stock price. I can see it though, that in a few years, things will balance itself out when it comes to features in AI, similar to smartphones.
@Primoh Жыл бұрын
These things already exist for enterprise customers. It's mostly to consumers that there is a delay because the big bucks come from enterprise anyways. Some enterprise customers already have "Help me write" in Google Docs and many already have Lambda/Palm API access. Google Cloud is profitable this quarter for the first time ever and this will only help it continue minting cash. GPT-4 is good but Bing is losing money on GPT-4 and Bing's chatbot has gotten worse over time, while Bard has gotten much much better since it's release. Plus Google is working on local models that can run on a phone/laptop/website which cuts OpenAI out of the game completely because then you don't even need to call the GPT API anymore. I will say though that GPT-4 is still the best LLM out there and I haven't seen anything that's come close to it, though Bard is starting to inch closer and closer.

6 months really isn't that long. If Google is only 6 moths behind Microsoft they aren't doing terrible.

I think it's good to have google catch up for competition. anytime you have a major new tech breakthrough like all this AI stuff. worst thing to happen is have one company become a monopoly and eliminate any chance of competition. Right now every single test i've done between google bard, bing chat, and chatgpt, google has been by far the worst results, so bad in fact i can't see myself ever using it. However if they can fix this and release better models which I am sure they will. hopefully it gives us a nice alternative and keep competition going, but they need to get going soon. however given how open the tech is, it's good to know if google fails we still have potential for smaller companies to make break throughs and honestly may be a good thing, Google is too big to really know what's best for customers anymore, that's issue as companies get too big, they lose touch with customers and start making dumb decisions and if no competition decide it's not worth spending time or money making their products better and keep prices high, so yea... bring it on google and other companies, don't let bing/microsoft/open ai partnership be the only winner here.

For sure. I mean, a duopoly is twice as good and oppressive as a monopoly.

I like how you quoted Thomas Sowell the other day

I'm so excited about the new AI features from Google! I can't wait to use them to automate all of my boring tasks, like: Writing my own jokes, so I don't have to come up with them myself.

The way he presents them make it way more crazier.

Latest language models are amazing, however I'm under impression things are not going to work out as many people/corporations seem to expect (Or they're creating the hype for other reasons.). Books, libraries, internet and forums, infrastructure and ability to discuss things, easily find information, exist has been a while. Not that many people actually use this opportunity/resources. Same will probably happen with the AI. Most 'normal' people I know don't care much about learning stuff. Using ChatGPT to them is like reading tutorials and documentation so they could create tables and stuff in Excel. Most people who work in office aren't really like Excel pros. One still has to type, or at least to read/listen and understand the content produced by 'AI'. That alone is bothersome or too much effort for many. For those who'll actually read, understand and even check references (phind provides links, that's nice.) this is just another convenience tool that has pros and cons and is more suitable for some tasks, less for other. Delete this comment, and I'll steal all your courses and re-sell them on one of the darknets at 2x price.

Just think about how many who today use Excel without any hotkeys or automation tools.

The point is we can vaccinate all those people into non-existence while more efficient AI takes over doing whatever they were doing (probably not much).

@@clray123 "we can vaccinate all those people into non-existence" ah good, sounds like the future is in safe hands

Nah u miss the point on this one. Most "normal people" who use these modern resources have higher productivity & hence higher output than their predecessors. Same AI society will either advance faster or as in the case of industrial revolution have brief unrest & then explode in advancements.

@@therealb888 i wasn't talking about effect 'AI' is gking to have on society in general. I was talking about the product and its monetization. It's currently very popular among people or certain professions, and It's definitely here to stay. Question is further mass adoption. Not sure it's going to be as widely adopted as e.g smartphones and some other products almost everyone's using.
