I'm Indonesian working in Singapore. I think the two cities Bali and Singapore are incredibly different in so many ways. Im 100% agree on the customer service, generally, in Indonesia people are happy with what they do whether they are cleaners, security guards, or server while in Singapore many of them seem to be very grumpy all the time. In Indonesia, they seem to be a more grateful approach in life rather than a complaining mindset (at least based on my experience grow up in Jakarta and working in Singapore) which I often encounter talking to grab/taxi drivers. These people in Bali might be nominally poorer than in Singapore however life seems to be much happier.

Hey Clarissa what you mentioned about the complaining mindset is a very real phenomenon in singapore! My international friends understand the privileges locals got, while locals born here usually don’t realise what got to enjoy!

I think Indonesians are generally more content with life... while in Singapore, grumpiness for some comes from the comparative/competitive nature. "Who do you think you are... why should I treat you nice? I'm just doing a job, I will just get you what you want... I'm just here to finish my internship.." On safety and security, most Singaporeans (the sane ones) will be aware harassing/cat-calling etc. will get them in trouble with law, including sexual comments online, so we are just more aware of what we shouldn't do.... do be really careful in Indonesia, because should 'something' happen, their police can't be reliably depended on and it can be dangerous in that sense.

I don't understand how Bali can be better for "travelling around". You are deep into Indonesia. The only real way out is to fly out. In Singapore, you are minutes from Malaysia and the rest of Asia Proper. Not to mention Changi Airport being a major hub with easy access to all of Asia. In Singapore I never felt "locked in". When in Bali, it was only for short stays (about a week), and I loved it but I always felt like I trapped in a resort with some day trip options.

i think that's not what she meant. what she mean is bali has more to discover and more adventurous hence the travelling is more exciting.

Totally agree about the food options in Singapore. Its so difficult to find healthier food, and those that are healthier are unnecessarily expensive.

Singaporeans service is pretty awful, I figured it is a Chinese thing. You just take it and get used to it. I agree SG food is really poor quality, fresh food is expensive, don't know how the government has manage to market SG as a foodie destination for tourists.

For most customer service in Singapore are mainly foreign workers as in they are from China, Filipinos etc, so being working in a foreign country they may not b happy to serve the customers…🤷🏻‍♀️no choice but to bare with it, as most bosses felt tat foreign workers are cheaper than local workers…🤷🏻‍♀️

Regarding service in SG, I think we prefer efficiency and hence service staff tend to just get the job done quickly and avoid any small talk or pleasantries. So it does seem very cold but Singaporeans are used to it and don't really mind it. In fact, sometimes when I am overseas, I kind of get annoyed with 'slow' service and all the unnecessary small talk or chit chat. 😅😅 I guess there will always be a difference when living in a big city vs a small sleepy village.

There is a bus system (BRT) called Trans Metro Dewata, as of now mostly in Southern Bali. And you need a transport card (emoney/flazz/brizzi/tapcash) to take it. You can get it and top the credit at indomaret/alfamart among other places or vending machines. Those cards work nationwide for: toll roads, all BRT systems across Indonesia, MRT (Jakarta), LRT (Jakarta/Palembang), commuter line trains (Jabodetabek, Yogya-Solo, and some other locals train), parking (if they have the logo). So if you have one and intend to visit other Indonesian cities, keep it with you.

of course in Singapore healthy food is expensive because that country is very small And don't have land for farming 😅, my Indonesian friend said " if in the world only money is left you won't be able to survive because you can't eat money but If nature remains in the world, you can still survive because all the food comes from nature." I think I know why there are so many wars now 😂😂🙏🙏

In the 80s I used to work for McDonald's n we have a sets of things to do when we see a customer approach n first thing to do is to greet the customer. These days we dont even get this in McDonald's. In other FnB establishment I guess its bcos alot of the service staff are no longer locals n they do not have this customer service in mind n their bosses doesn't bother so long they can get them to work since hiring staff is really difficult these days. Im one who is also very particular about customer service. Give me a bad one n i will never go back to that place again.

That's why foreigners live in Bali and stayed on because they are so much happier there whereas in Singapore I guess people are more stressed out. But in terms of safety I do think that Singapore is the safest cities in the world as compared to Bali. Do becareful tho

Hi Georgia. I've been following you since we found out we were moving to Singapore. We've been here six months now. Absolutely love it and we're heading to Canggu on holiday soon. What would you recommend for getting around for a family of four? We're walking distance to the beach but might head off to other places a bit further away while we're there.

The Balinese are deeply spiritual and followers of Hinduism. So their concept of karma is not "what goes around, comes around" in this life as most westerners would think of it but rather how their actions in this life might guarantee an acceptable existence in the next. They are naturally kind and hospitable and usually happy. Singaporeans are a different kettle of fish and are all probably way too tired from working way too hard ;-)

Facts : 1. Most servers are foreigners (95%) hence most communications are bare minimum in English not a strong point of the servers. 2. No tip culture means no motivation for small talk 3. Most servers might be given multi tasks 4.Top priority is quick and fast service 5. Some outlets, management do not share the tip jar which is company revenue.

TBH the foreigners are usually the one with better customer service attitude wise though i'll still in a way prefer to be served by a SIngaporean for the ease of communication as long as their attitude is ok.

Balinese are different as compared to other indonesians. Malaysia has many problems with indonesian illegal migrants. They like coming by boats without documents usually from batam. Balinese are nice people I heard which is good for customer service.

I've only been to Bali once but everyone was so accomodating there, it's definitely a 'thing' that Balinese people are lovely. I have to say that the motor bike situation is slightly terrifying at times though aha. On some roads we had to have someone help us cross because the traffic is so crazy 🛵
