Trust me, I was as shocked as you are and it made me so happy to know that the author is alive and well after so much speculation and rumors. He even had mentioned that he had returned to practice Dentistry to take a break from Guyver, aside the issues with the 2011 Tsunami and then the Pandemic.

Guyver was the first anime I saw that got me into them in the early 90s the "manga video" label anime like genocyber, devilman, cyber city and the like. still have a box of the VHSs lying around :)

BTW guyver 1 dont lose control often. Its only when he lose conciousness or die, the suit enters self defense mode. Essentially prioritizing its host's survival but unable to differentiate friend from foe. About karas. Eko was not Otoha's mentor. Every city has its ow Karas and Yurine who os the source of Karas's powers. Eko was that specific City's former karas. Also i dont remember him being actually a doctor though i may have missed it despite having watched it a bunch of times already. And the plot about recovering his lover's body didnt make it to the anime. Its like an initial story concept.

Guyver simply needs a comeback... And an open world video game. I always dreamt of playing sho running around a city trying to wipe out zoanoids and trying to take down their syndicates during the late night hours. Shiit shooting that chest cannon and sling out gravity spheres mixing the head Lazer into your blade combat. Adding a slow time mechanic like they have in metal gear rising where you can unleash hell in a split second.even an RPG like element of upgrading your suit with different blade configurations and helmet/suit styles, finding upgrades through the world with different levels of gear from standard to through epic to legendary. Even effects to change the way your guyvers abilities look and being alien the styles can be endless... Ahh yeah if only I knew how to make video games haha😅

What the hell is wro g with the gundam part? I actually rewinded to confirm if i heard right. I thought i missed something. You were talki g about gundam wing then suddenly one year war and the full armor system. LOL. But great list nonetheless. I absolutely love karas and guyver. I also love soultaker design and concept but the animation and scenes seem too weird for me.

So did anyone else think the second half of the Gundam Wing section was either from a different series or entirely made up? Also, not really the list I'd use for Guyver-like anime. It went off tge rails halfway through. I'd include the multiple Bubblegum Crisis anime, which tie into a wider canon with the AD Police series. Or Blassreiter where the hero and villians are transformed by nanites into metallic warriors with blood so infectious it turns dead bodies into zombies that can Fuse with technology. It also has both large and small mecha reminiscent of Gundam, Zoids, and especially Macross. Both series have plenty of Guyver-like body horror and emotional drama. Or even Ghost in the Shell where they have suits they use almost every episode who are themselves fully realized, if nearly indistinguishable, individuals sharing a server-like Hive mind. These suits interact with the human characters via Cybernetic implants. If I had to use a Gundam series it would have been Iron-blooded Orphans only because of the implants pilots get just to pilot basic mobile suits. Teaching Muyo: War on Gymanar is a decent mecha anime with a pilot/mecha bond. The Netflix Godzilla movies also include a body horror mecha, but going into thar spoils it. As a fun aside from anime the movie Star-child is basically a Guyver rip-off but campy fun for kids.

Gundam Wing went to shit quickly when it went from focusing on the trauma and consequences of war on using child soldiers to... dealing with supernatural/pseudoscientific/metaphorical hippie bullshit. It reminds me of what I read and glimpsed about the 1997 Speed Racer reboot. Apparently that one went off the rails too and stopped being about racing. It’s why I’ll never watch the original U.C. For a so-called “real robot anime”, that takes me out of being immersed. Because it reminds me of the indigo children crap. The original Gundam storyline seriously takes itself far too seriously. It just takes me completely out of the story when the Newtype crap isn’t treated like the ravings of a madman like in Origins. It has vestiges of the white supremacist “Aryan superman” crackpot theories that were the rage in the early 20th century without a hint of irony or criticism. I prefer the 08th M.S Team because it’s grounded and down to Earth just like Iron Blooded Orphans, Crossbone, Unicorn or Origins. Though I do like Seed and G Gundam since they knew what they were. They were fun.

Wing definitely went to shit when they brought on that dumb prototype plot device that was akin to the Newtype garbage where they all hallucinate visions from connection with the robot. Which made me drop the show after that point because I couldn’t buy it any longer.

@@ByTheStorm Okay, well that's your opinion but every Gundam series has some equivalent and Wing was one of the more grounded ones. Actually, the Zero system didn't actually change much of anything because the Gundams themselves were so much more powerful than other suits you can hardly notice. Quatre was the only real personality or ability shift presented in the show.

But the Zero System and Newtypes just rub me the wrong way that Coordinators don’t. Mostly due to being genetically engineered and having some flavour to it.

Great video, but Karas isn't like Guyver. The armor that Karas uses, is magic based, it's not mechanized. Also no one is going after him for his powers. Just because he has armor doesn't make it similar to Guyver. I mean if that's the premise, Ironman could be considered "like" The Guyver.

Don't disrespect the guyver like that. None of those shows have the smallest comparison to the guyver. Beyond the anime episodes it's far greater as chronos was created to fight against the advent (creators) but sho is fighting against chronos. The bio boosted armor was bio engineered and still for that matter couldn't be replicated. The story hits on so many different levels
