I dunno, I was thinking the Doctor forcefully taking over the Presidency of Gallifrey was pretty unexpected. (Fourth Doctor, "Invasion of Time") Additional (a year later): I haven't been watching a whole lot of the trailers and sneaky-peeks of the 60th anniversary show, but I have one overwhelming theory: Tennant's "14th Doctor" is actually the Valeyard. I've been thinking for forever, since I saw "The Trial of a Time Lord", that in NuWho, they should introduce "a Doctor", have him or her for a couple or few episodes, then have THAT one die and turn back into our usual beloved Time Lord, not the Valeyard. Just sayin'.

Have to say re: Russell coming back...How badly do you have to screw up a franchise for it to be felt the only way to fix things is to bring back the guy who brought it all back in the first place? You can almost hear the beeping of the bullion truck backing into his house, full of his spending gold, as the Beeb meets his demands to return.
@theaussiebackflipboy2 жыл бұрын
RTD is a true Doctor Who fan and I somehow don't think he's doing it for the money - his new production company might mean he will own the franchise outright rather than the BBC. Chibnall seriously has damaged the franchise to the point where the only solution is to look to the past to move forward. We may end up being stuck with a new history of The Doctor but at least RTD will make sense of the debacle that Chibnall created.
@laurencelowndes78412 жыл бұрын
I'm still half hoping that because it was the master who told the doctor that they were the.timeless child, it could still be a lie, a ruse. The great thing about the doctor was that they weren't special, they were just a normal time lord doing special things
@gestaltdude2 жыл бұрын
@@laurencelowndes7841 Agreed. Yes, they had more lives than a cat (proverbially speaking), but there was still the element of danger, particularly around the end of each season, if you could avoid the internet. By giving the Doctor infinite lives, it takes away that element, removes any sort of tension over the most dramatic or dangerous of circumstances. yes, you might have to say goodbye to a beloved actor, but you would know the character would go on because they literally could not die. Might as well replace the character with Captain Jack, at least we knew what his deal was from the start (of Torchwood anyway :P ).
@BrunoEwok Жыл бұрын
Everybody hates Chibnel, but no-one can criticize the bad decisions he made. It certainly wasn't that Jody Whitaker was a bad actress. It's that the Doctor is an alien who regenerates, not a Michael Jackson "Black of White" video star. Did Chibnel accidentally imply that Doctor Who's Mom killed him a few hundred times?
@gestaltdude Жыл бұрын
@@BrunoEwok I've never thought Jodie was a bad actress. Just the opposite; I believe she did a phenomenal job with the material she was given. Unfortunately, the most gifted actor can still look like crap if that is what they are given to work with, which many seem to agree describes a lot of the Chibnall era. I'm really not sure what point you're trying to make with the "black or white" reference, unless that is pointing to making the Doctor female, but that's not something with which I've ever had a problem. If you want to give the role to the best actor, why not open up the field to include the other half of humanity? I'm afraid that yes, it does appear as if the Shobogan that adopted the Timeless Child did kill the child repeatedly to learn the secret of regeneration. I'm still not convinced the Timeless Child was the Doctor for two reasons. a) If the Doctor was the Timeless Child, 11 would not have needed the energy burst that represented a new regeneration cycle in Time of the Doctor, he would have simply been able to continue regenerating. The alternative that Chibnall simply didn't care about precedent is of course a possibility, but there is still the b) which is consider the source of the information, ie the Master. He has wanted to destroy the Doctor for millennia, and what better way than to undermine everything s/he knew about their origin. Someone riddled with doubt is a lot easier to defeat than someone confident in themselves.

Was this written before"Village of the Angels" aired? Wondering why the Thirteenth Doctor being turned into a Weeping Angel wasn't on the list. Sadly now in cancel culture times anyone who has done anything ever is hounded and made out to be the worst person ever. He thought he was being funny, he was told by producers he wasn't, so he stopped. It's not like he raped anyone, he just got his dick out and waved it about a few times to try to get a laugh.
