Excellent video. Everything done hands-on so it can be done visually instead of reading a handbook. If only some Irish drivers could follow this example, there would be fewer accidents on our roads. Excellent video as always. Please don't take this the wrong way and perhaps it's jus the my perception but: 1. At around 1:46 when your instructor pulled away, did he actually also perform an over the shoulder check for blind spot? 2. At around 1:53, was it neccassary for the instructor to keep his hand on the gear lever for several seconds before changing gear? Could he have kept his left hand on the steering wheel longer and only moving it to the gear lever when ready to actually change gear, then immediately move his hand back to the steering wheel, thus minimizing the time with one handed steering?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. The clip you mention was taken from another video, and if you click this link kzbin.info/www/bejne/qHzUlXmir65_kMU you can see that the blind spots were checked - but to save a little time on this video they weren't shown. At low speed there is no problem controlling the car with one hand - but once up to speed we try to use both hands wherever possible. 👍🏼

@@AdvanceDrivingSchool what if it's a wet road
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
As long as there is no standing water then we should be fine. If we were to aquaplane then the car's traction and electronic stability control would react faster than we could in any case, so it's no problem to use cruise control in our opinion.

Please could you help me with a roundabout question? My driving instructor doesn't seem to know and it is very frustrating. Here is an image imgur.com/a/DbQWiee. If I approach from 8 o clock and want to go 6 o clock. I could use the right hand lane but that would spit me out onto the overtaking lane when leaving the roundabout. Am I allowed to use the middle lane to go right even though it only has a forward arrow?
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
We would normally use the right lane on approach, and then change to the outer lane once our exit is next, so that we leave onto the left lane of the new road.
@tom56ize4 жыл бұрын
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool I see, thank you! It is just I was always taught to try and avoid changing lanes on a big roundabout haha. What threw me off was that when you come from 11 o' clock going straight on 4 o'clock you can just go straight into the left lane.
@AdvanceDrivingSchool4 жыл бұрын
If we find a spiral roundabout, then we can just follow one lane right to our exit - but on a normal roundabout we still need to change lanes for ourselves. The safest thing to do is obey any road markings, as they make our intentions clear to other road users. 👍🏼
