I just left Belize. The crime rate has really increased and is beginning to effect Expats. Also... They are having a big problem with Sargassum seaweed on the coast and around islands. According to my research, decaying Sargassum on the coasts produces a neurotoxin, endangering your eyes, skin, muscles and brain. I left due to health problems related to this. There are a few places away from the coast but, again, violent crime is quite a problem. (4th or 5th highest murder rate per capita in the world.) These days, it's not just in Belize City. It's one thing to vacation there and another thing to live there. Belize was really a dream turned nightmare for me. Just spreading info. for what It's worth.

@@carllake1 I can relate. I am in Cambodia. Altogether, I've lived here for around 5 years since 2014. There are lots of jobs for Expats in Phnom Penh. That gets you annual work permits. If you are over 55, you can get an annual retirement visa. Now, getting in is harder, due to the current 'crisis.' However, I anticipate this changing soon. There was never a big lockdown here. @exploringdimensions4all8534 жыл бұрын
@@carllake1 I have done A LOT of research on immigration 'policies' in N. and S. America, as well as how easy it is (or not) to actually take advantage of those policies. In 2017, I became aware of Peru's policy for students and citizenship. As of 2017, it was possible to enroll in any 2-year program of study (including Spanish) as a way of mantaining residency and eventually qualifying for citizenship. Other countries, like Argentina and Costa Rica, 'appear' to have easy policies, but - on the ground - it's very difficult to get residency processed in a timely manner. (It can take many months or years.) Honestly, more English is spoken in Asia than in Latin America. In Chile, (I had to learn basic Spanish to get a room and food). You might want to check into current policies in Columbia. I hear good things about that country, but I'm not sure about the English. In parts of Southeast Asia, a few hundred thousand dollars of investment (in an approved project) will buy you citizenship. English is widely spoken in Malaysia and it's the official language of Singapore. These days, with plane transfers involved, it doesn't really take that much longer to get back to family in the U.S. from Asia, if you ever want to explore that idea.

I would certainly add the Bahamas to the list. They have no capital gains tax, and no income tax. It's hard to get citizenship, but residency is fairly easy, and buying a home at any price gets you a home owner's card, which allows you to come and go as you please. If the home is over $250,000, you can use it to get permanent residency. Sadly, they do have a 7.5% VAT since 2015, and import duties which can be sort of silly. The Bahamas have LOTS of islands, about 365 in the Exumas alone---and that's just one chain.

Personally, as I’ve traveled both in the U.S., Canada and outside of North America, any place where the British have flocked to are financially inflated. It reminds me of Miami where New Yorkers and Russians have significantly contributed to to overpricing of South Florida. I will always avoid any place where there are droves of New Yorkers, Russians and Brits. I’m comfortable with my second language so I’ll pass on these locales. Plus, that second language locale is added security and privacy.
@Sheppesh5 жыл бұрын
Oiled Up And Ready ! Do you envision the language as being crucial in your long term future? Maybe its Spanish and or Vietnamese depending on what you do for a living. It also depends on the social circles you wish to immerse yourself. In my life it’s Portuguese as my current second language but I’m going to learn one more language. My limit is three.
@Sheppesh5 жыл бұрын
Oiled Up And Ready ! How old are you? At some point you will have to make a decision. As you age the more difficult it is to acquire a new language. However, sometimes it takes time to make the right choice. I use my craft as a designer to help me navigate and decide. For example, which markets would be the most beneficial to my long term future and growth as a visual artist. If I was to die tomorrow, what cultures would I want at my funeral? Where in the world do I feel the most positive energy? What culture am I most likely to find a wife if I decide to get married? Where would you culturally fit in best and less likely experience discrimination based on your race? Questions like this. You have to dig deep, look in the mirror and be honest with yourself.
@Sheppesh5 жыл бұрын
Oiled Up And Ready !, there are options. The internet is a great place to search. Just keep in mind that whatever language you choose, it’s the language that should be with you until you die. The permanence of the choice makes one choose wisely.

Oiled Up And Ready ! In my opinion, having lived around the Spanish speaking communities in the USA, I believe Spanish is extremely overrated unless you are really interested in the Latin American Spanish speaking cultures, which is as diverse and varied as the menu of their culinary dishes and drinks. Also, on the business front, Spanish speaker spending power is not impressive in the USA or in Latin America, much less in Spain. Honestly, if business is a driving factor for anyone, learning Chinese should be a top priority. Anyway, I personally won’t learn another language of another former European colonizer. I’m only putting energy and investing in maintaining Portuguese as a communication bridge to Africa. My third language will be a local language, likely Creole or Swahili. Life experience has taught me that learning another European language would be a waste of time, money, energy and in conflict with my overall global interests.
@Sheppesh5 жыл бұрын
Oiled Up And Ready ! I’m thinking a nice African island with good food and a plethora smorgasbord of fish, fruit and vegetables. I’m a simple person. As experience in Brazil has taught me to appreciate less processed foods and the simple pleasures in life, such as fruit that’s grown naturally with no chemicals and organic meat. Brazil will always be one of my focus countries. Africa is vast, complex and from my understanding it’s best to know what your interests are before going because the continent is a cultural buffet. Basically, as a visual artist, my travel is to aid in informing my studio practice. But historically, visual artists have always thrived as outsiders in distant lands. Brazil has not been a disappointment for me. Honestly, if it wasn’t for Brazil I feel my studio practice would be somewhat dead on arrival. The relationship between Brazil and most African nations is fantastic so that will help me along the way. The bridge between Brazil and various African nations is much stronger than with the USA. Europe is overrated and getting overcrowded from what I am hearing. Human rights are important but what I’m noticing as I travel is that most individuals don’t think much about their human rights until their bank accounts are negatively impacted or threatened. The poor live, on a daily basis, unfortunately, must deal with inequality and violations of their rights. One of the most alarming things I’ve experienced and witnessed is the abuse of the local inhabitant in an age of globalization. I left my city of birth because of the lack of a supportive art community. Too many weak people just treat both art and design as a hobby instead of a livelihood. Plus, we are not taught how to monetize our art. I just need air so I left the U.S. south and haven’t been able to stay there sense. Too many ignorant transplants. Brazil, culturally, given that 51% of the population has African ancestry, has been a breath of fresh air.

@Oiled Up And Ready ! Well I'm not a huge fan of Australia, I consider the place to be a rule infested pit. Which is why I didn't consider that, when I made my satirical and critical post of the video above. But from memory, I don't think Ireland is regarded as a cheap place to live either. Notice Numbeo, accredits Australia as having more purchasing power than Ireland. Arguably a large part of the reason they rate the overall index as Australia is a better place to live. So if you think Australia is expensive, don't move to Ireland. Sorry if I have offended any Irish, I haven't been there. That is why I used Numbeo's numbers, I'm no expert on Ireland. Oh Oiled, if you can get out of that place, do so before you are trapped by mortgages, family and career expectations. I live in Asia. A packet of cigarettes here costs 50cents, a beer 50cents. A bottle of Vodka cruisers was $1 US each off the shelf of a shop refrigerator. Bundy Rum 1150ml export bottles $14, but no one drinks that here, because Single malt Scotches are $25 and you can get imported Vodkas for $4. The local stuff sells for as little as $1 a bottle. The Bundy and Cruisers, are made and bottled in Australia. It just goes to show you how much tax is on things doesn't it. Prices here are in US dollars. An Aussie dollar is about 70cents US most of the time. New Zealand friends working with me in Australia years ago, told me Aussie beers are cheaper in NZ than AU as well. But with Jacinda Ardern's socialist government in place, costs are going to skyrocket in NZ to pay for social programs. So I don't hold out a lot of hope for NZ at the moment.

You could take the long weekend in Phuket or Bali and be back by Sunday night. If you have the talent and creds like Jim Rogers, Eduardo Saverin..some of the China actors....the door is always open to you. The key word is TALENT, not necessarily 6-8 figures income. Someone in the government makes the decision, gets you onto a scheme, boom you are in. Recently they took in Nas Daily.

I personally think you might have an issue with jamaica most of the islands that you mentioned apart from the tiny islands in the eastern Caribbean and totally skipped Jamaica makes me think you might have an issue with Jamaica. Not to mention Jamaica is the largest predominately English speaking island in the Caribbean and western hemisphere. Everybody in Jamaica speaks English. Patois is spoken by all jamaicans too but it's broken English but everyone in Jamaicans understands and speaks . You mentioned island but you picked belize as the first lol . Which most definitely isnt an island.
