The woman stated that she didn't want to be involved because she could not physically care for the children. She had surgeries coming in days. While I agree that she should have called the authorities, I believe it likely she has before and little to nothing has come of it in the past. So now she sees no point in it. I have been in this woman's place. Unfortunately the system in place to protect our children is very broken. Most often the children are given right back to their mother once she returns home from county lockup. They explain how what she did is not safe, that she should not drink around her children, offer support services, make her sign a safety plan, and sometimes follow up. Sadly the system fails our most vulnerable. This mother has used and abused her family for a long time. Which is why the woman is not wanting to be involved when she is sick.
