I'm learning so much from this channel. Thank you. After getting out from being homeless I bought my first watch (I never bought myself anything before). I bought a Nixon which I respect and won't ever get rid of. It marked a time period i decided to start caring about myself. Now I have my first automatic a Fortis Flieger, which i got a crazy deal on. I have to have a Seiko! I guess it will come soon.

In 1997 I bought a New Citizen Eco Drive Titanium with the white dial and Great Lum.
@heminder7 жыл бұрын
Dude, two apps you need to know about for keeping track of watch accuracy. First one's called Watch Accuracy - you take a pic of the dial every so often and it measures over a period of time. The second one is Tickoprint - hold your phone's mic up against watch and it spits out a graph of the ticking of the movement. Wait for the plot to turn green and it'll measure the accuracy of the piece instantly.
@theurbangentry7 жыл бұрын
Fantastic, I will check them out? Are they free per chance? Thank you, Best regards, TGV
@DanboShaw7 жыл бұрын
I second the recommendation for Tickoprint. I prefer it to Watch Accuracy because I can use Tickoprint while regulating my watch to check accuracy on the spot, instead of having to wait several hours to get a reliable measurement.
@heminder7 жыл бұрын
Yep. Tickoprint has a paid version with some extra features like beat error, amplitude measurement, etc, but the basic one is gratis and does a good job.

Watch band block is important to size bracelets, especially with pin or pin and collar systems, though I still use it for screw bracelet sizing. A watch case holder is useful to remove the caseback whether to replace Quartz batteries, regulate mechanicals or verify the authenticity of the movement and watch.

If you are going to be changing straps a lot and need to be flipping the watch over onto the crystal, you should probably have a very soft and thick padded cloth, One which also won't let the watch slide around while you are working on it. Keep it with your tools and only use for that purpose. BTW, that's a very well crafted and top shelf intro . . nicely done, TGV!

Thanks TGV for another enjoyable installment. I thought of another tool I've found very useful, you might have already mention it or another fan suggestion but how about Vernier Caliper micrometer. As I'm expanding my collection and putting your style tips to good use I find I need to check and double check the case dimensions of the pieces in my collection. I'm also car guy and a mechanic friend once told me I needed good "calipers" in my toolbox. Machinist grade can be expensive but a lot hobbies also call for precision measurements that don't need to be Cal Tech or NASA grade.

I agree whole heartedly with the new strap bringing life to a watch ideology because recently i replaced the strap on my orient "esteem" (ref. number is ridiculous) with a smooth cognac leather strap with a butterfly clasp and it made me fall in love with the piece all over again. I never like the faux crocodile stamp leather that it came on. One thing i would add to the essentials, especially for people new to mech. watches, would be a decent jewelers' loop so you can really look at the various parts of a movement in detail and get a basic understanding of how it works. Also it makes it easier to check for damage and other cosmetic stuff on used pieces.

There is one item that is missing this list, which I believe is very important: chronocomparator like Timegrapher 1000. This is essential when buying mechanical watches. Can save you from buying faulty pieces. I even use it when buying new watches from reputable stores. Had a case when three different Tissot watches of the same model were broken from factory which I found at the shop and finally didn’t buy. You can also monitor your watches once a year to see if they are doing well or should I bring them to watchmaker. I also use it to help friends when they buy mechanical watch.

Oil/lubricants congeal; blood coagulates. What I prefer to use for regulation is the US atomic clock which you can access on the web; dedicated lines are used to relay the signal: observatories and other locations where timing is critical use this service.
