Primo video, Whitney! I had to watch it in segments, but it certainly was well worth the time! I especially appreciate that you continue to reiterate the importance of personal color (know your "season") and, equally important, knowing your body type (not just apple, pear, inverted triangle, but, Classic, Romantic, Natural...think David Kibbe!) It makes a world of difference! This was an excellent topic, Whitney, and you carried it off with your usual great professionalism and enthusiasm.

You are so amazing. Period. Just amazing. Especially in your ability to take the trends and styles that come and go and adapt them to make them accessible to a real person. Though the stores are doing much better in showing styles on mannequins of all sizes. I haven't worn pants with pleats since I had a 24-28 inch waist. Nope. I've lost 45 pounds and still losing and am within 15 pounds of my goal weight. Still can't get my head around pants with pleats as a possibility, let alone with drastically tapered to the ankle legs. I need a trip to the mall to try on clothes to actually see the transformation. I love how you wear dresses, I have to say. Another thing I need to get my head around is wearing dresses without pantyhose and heels. My skin is so pale, I hesitate to wear a nice dress with bare legs unless it's a slim skort with sneakers. I'm showing my age, I know. But, thank you, Whitney. Just, thank you for everything. This is a video I'll come back to as I plan my new wardrobe.

I loved this video! I got so many ideas for a Fall wardrobe from all of these examples. We keep our home VERY cold in the Winter, so many of my makes will be out of heavier fabrics, but I think many will work out fine. I love silk for wearing under pants in the Winter. They really do keep me much warmer and they are great for wearing under the jogger pants. I had to laugh when you were speaking about trying to regulate body temps. The expression on your face was priceless! I am past it for the most part, but there were times when I literally opened the freezer and leaned over it to cool myself off. My husband got used to seeing me hanging out windows in Winter and standing over the forced air vents in the Summer when the AC was on!! I would sleep with a sheet only and a fan blowing on me, while my husband slept under a comforter! LOL I am looking forward to seeing how your module comes together.

My favorite “comfy” pants pattern is the style arc Beth. They are easy to fit too. I wish I could wear pleats, but they are not flattering on me unless they have a flat yoke (80’s style). Check out style arc if anyone needs a comfy, but classic looking work pant. Many of the patterns are designed for stretch fabrics and have a back elastic waistband. Great for active jobs like elementary teachers or any job you are moving a lot in. There are so many great pattern designers out there. I love the Romy top/dress- I may need that one- I think a lot of your choices would work for my Kibbe style too (soft natural).

Ridge Reich I have just gotten the StyleArc Beth pants and will be making them soon but my question to you is how easy were they and what kind of material did you make them out of?
@reggie79564 жыл бұрын
Judy Sieweke they are very easy. Style arc has a video on here- it might be helpful to watch it first. Fitting took me longer than actually sewing the finished pair. I used Bengaline (hobby lobby carries some decent Bengaline in several colors). Look at your fabric carefully so you get the stretch going in the right direction. Good luck!

What a great video. Timely as we all realize this remote life, those of us lucky to be able to work remote, is not going anywhere. As a matter of fact I am helping my job to go paperless so that we can function more efficiently-period. LOL I definitely am interested in woven joggers, especially with stretch maybe a cottona sateen. A little shine lends itself to the suiting option....That is one type of pattern that I actually do not have. But I think It's time to pull the trigger on the Helen's Closet version. She is just so reliable around ease of instructions. I really like the como tops so simple and so stylish nicer t-shirt option and although not much into skirts are overalls, definitely I would add a jumpsuit to the list. Working on the Closet Core Flight Suit today. I also just ordered the sofia top/dress from Victory after seeing you post them on Pinterest!!! I am so thrilled I had no idea they are finally expanding size range to include my size. Let's face it I need the excitement of a few new pieces to motivate me to actually get dressed these days. I just bought some navy with gray and silver pinstripe stretch suiting I was goi;g to do some overalls and pair them with a gray knit somthjng cute under it, maybe something floofy girly, which is so funny that you mention your penchant for menswear fabric with a feminine shape or spin. One of my very favorite fashion combos. I haven’t worn overalls since the 90s, I wanted to do something different. I’m busting with inspiration! Love your new hair! This is a great topic. I like all your ideas. Dressing---and even dressing-up a bit ---is is an attitude booster. The two things I want for stay-at-home are a yoke style long skirt (because waists bind when I sit for a long period) and a "comfortable" unlined high-hip, not too loose linen jacket to professional-up a loose stand-up collar linen shirt that I love to wear. I have a vest, to dress-up the shirt, but a jacket would add variation (and I am so so so so I tired of my covid19 cardigan collection). I have not found a pattern for either a yoked long skirt or an unlined semi-fitted linen jacket. Do you know of any good patterns off the top of your head. Thanks.

Interesting video’s Whitney, I have learned a lot watching your work these last weeks. First found while looking for active wear, got interested in other topics to. You mention wool, as in men’s suiting. This is worsted spun, not worsted weight. Worsted spun yarn has all the fibers parallel, which gives it a smooth strong yarn with a bit of a shine. Worsted weight tells something about the thickness of a yarn, not how it is spun. It is a relative thick yarn, good for handknit sweaters, scarfs etc. ( I am an avid knitter and wool spinner)
@TomKatStitchery4 жыл бұрын
You are right. I totally misspoke on the worsted. I’ve been knitting a bunch lately so worsted weight has been on my mind 😂.

I too 'work' from home all the time and since moving have gotten into the rut of wearing leggings and dresses (not together-that would just be weird! lol). With our autoimmune issues it just makes it easier but now with these alternatives I think if I can find comparable patterns in plus sizes I may just get busy and make a more respectable wardrobe! lol

I could have totally worn them with tall boots, but the skinny hem was coming uncomfortably onto my larger calves. Basically, every time I bent over, it got stuck on my calves and pulled my pants down. An interesting problem 😂.

@@TomKatStitchery I could see a comedy skit from that description! Too bad you don't know someone that could let the hem out! LOL Maybe it's a good thing they found a new home!

You look lovely in your vlog. I have a fancy for some woven joggers and have been eyeing the Arden pants or the Arenite. I have the true bias Hudson pants which I think I will hack- and use Tencel, cupro or silk crepe de chine. I don’t know if you have made any woven joggers?
@TomKatStitchery4 жыл бұрын
I’ve made knit joggers, but not woven ones - yet! They will be playing a part in my Fall wardrobe for sure, though!

LOVED this video! Thank you so much for putting this together - there are some gorgeous pattern options! I’m newer to garment sewing (been a quilter for years). Do you think the jogger or trouser patterns would be too difficult for someone new to garment sewing to make? I hear all the time how difficult pants can be to make!
@TomKatStitchery4 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad you enjoyed this one! Actually, the joggers and the elastic waist trousers would be great for first pants. Because neither silhouette is very fitted, you won’t get caught up on a ton of fitting issues. That’s where the issues with pants usually comes, the fitting.

I feel the fluctuating waistline problems... I love that Romy pattern. I have been debating making it up, but I havent seen too many made up on instagram or anything. Would love to hear your thoughts. Also that new pull on jeans pattern seems so cool. I wonder if it would be easy to hack into more of a bootcut

I have made the pull on jeans (the Mountain Views) in a straight, skinny and bootcut and they are fabulous in all three! I’ll also let you all know if I end up buying and making the Romy. My pattern wishlist is long 😂

I wanted to wait until the end to comment, but I am entirely distracted by how perfect your hair color is for you! Is that a honey brown? Really fantastic.. :) Now, to watch the video content LOL. :)
@TomKatStitchery4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It’s my natural hair color. My stylist does do an all over wash every 12 weeks to add a bit of dimension (because it’s a bit flat otherwise), but other than that this is the natural color. Surprisingly, there’s a bit of red in my hair. I had no idea!
@MicheleBonna4 жыл бұрын
@@TomKatStitchery It is very much like my younger natural color.. honey and coppery reds, but would overall be called brown, though I think I was called "dark blonde" by one stylist.. that may have been for vanity points LOL. I went all the way with the coppery light red color, but the last application has faded and I am thinking of moving toward that younger me color while waiting on the grey to come in (I am rooting for silver/white to win out lol) Otherwise it has aged toward the "drab" side of the color spectrum. So, looking for semi permanent colors was on my mind when I started watching.
@TomKatStitchery4 жыл бұрын
Michele yes! That sounds very similar to my natural color as well. I have a feeling mine will look more “drab” as i age and as I wait for the gray/silver to come in!

Your new hair style is beautiful. I love the curls. I am so anxious for the golf clothing tutorial that you are planning. I actually went into the golf shop yesterday and looked at ladies clothing for seam finishes, fabric ideas, and the latest trends. If there is any information that you can provide in advance, I’d love to hear it. Thanks.

So much info today about how to dress to look slim, but for people like me who are on the skeletal side of thin and would like to look a bit more 'rounded', there's nothing. How do you find these different patterns?
@TomKatStitchery2 жыл бұрын
Underneath the title of the video (when you're playing it) there are a couple lines of text. If you hit the "show more" or down arrow to the right of that the description box will drop down. All the links for everything in the video can be found there!

I have an honest question. Why do you suggest only independent patterns and none of the Big 4?

I’m not really sure. I sew with both. I can definitely make a more concerted effort to include more Big 4 patterns in these types of videos!
