That was amazing! Not going to pick up many travel tips, alas, because a) not nearly cool enough to pull off any of these looks, b) can’t travel atm, and c) I would freeze to death wearing just a sweater over a sleeveless top in winter. 😂 But so much fun to see yours! And seriously, the thinking behind your choice of what to bring was great. Also could 100% relate to the problem of handknits not going with a lot of your wardrobe! I spent years and years (and many Euro too) choosing yarn because I loved the colour, only to find it went with almost nothing I had to wear. I used to wear a lot of print skirts and dresses back then, so not as much of a problem when I’m in black trousers or joggers most of the time, but I wouldn’t say I’ve cured myself of the habit. (Working on re-knitting two frogged sweaters now, adding silk mohair along with the original yarn, but then I have a sweater quantity of mYak Tibetan Cloud in a gorgeous green, which will go with…. any tops? Remains to be seen!) Glad you had such a great trip, and Cinnamon will come around, for sure!

😂 I'm trying to stick to yarns in colors and weights that I will actually wear but it's SOOOOO hard! I get hot really easily so I have ZERO business looking at heavy weight yarns BUT they always tempt me 'cause they're so "squishy" 🤣
@hallie72207 ай бұрын
@@thebigsewalong I get hot easily and also cold easily, so it’s cardigans all the way! But oooh, yes, the squish factor is very significant.

I'm so happy you got to see your family, especially your Dad. My self drafted pattern turned out to be nearly identical to the Burda pants pattern. I know this because I bought the Burda pattern thinking it was something different....oh, well. Lol. Love the new plans but found an interesting Simplicity pattern last week. #9907 by Elaine Heigl. You would pass this up as an apron pattern but, the pants are really cute! A full lantern shaped with long front/back darts at hem. I've seen them made and they are cute, looks like they are full at the top which I may slim down. Oh, the length is tricky so lengthening may be challenging, if you make them they may be an ankle length so check that first.They had a decent sale going on so I also got #9938, another one billed as an apron but to me is a jumper to throw on over anything. Finally, #9929 a Mimi G design. These looked like a nice wide leg pant that I can crop for summer. French terry will be great for them. I haven't purchased a Simplicity pattern in a minute so I was surprised how fashion forward they've gotten. The new K Tilton top from Butterick looks really good too. So nice to have you back! I missed you last week. Hugs to my furry friends please and an extra squeeze for Claude.

Hi Charlotte! I saw that Elaine Heigle pattern and tried to get it at the last Joann's sale but they didn't; have any of the new patterns (🙄)I see they are 4.99 at simplicity right now so I'll probably get that one. I really like 9938 too and I hadn't seen that one before. It would be a jumper for me too. I like the Mimi G pants! super cute in French Terry! Claude says "woof" and "slobber slobber" 😂

Hi Gini, this was such a great video. I loved your selection for your weekend wardrobe! In fact I liked them so much I just ordered the dress, swing top, and Burda pants. Now I need to look up the tutorial for the slip you made from the swing top. Do you think I could get adequate instructions if I googled “adding circular skirt to bodice top”? I haven’t done that before. What would be the absolute easiest way to add a non-gathered skirt? I’ll also look for a tutorial on the Burda pants. Did you need to adjust the length on the pants? I love, 💕 your colors for the next pants and top! The lime green is amazing, and the combination with the fuscia pink is going to be awesome! I can’t wait to see it🤗. A friend of mine who saw my Light and Shadow vest, ordered the pattern and I suggested she look up your tutorial. She said the tutorial was great and that she wasn’t sure she could have figured it out without it. She is going to bring it by next week to show me, and wants to compare it with the ones I made before making her final one in good fabric. I might make another one too, now that spring is coming. As always I thoroughly enjoyed seeing you and your ideas, such an inspiration 🤗🩷

Hi Judith! for the circle skirt I'll go over that in my next video (I just finished the one in pink lawn) for the Burda pants I sized down . I can;t remember what size I cut but it's REALLY wide so I just went with whichever size would go over my hips and I added two inches to the length (and they're still pretty short) the pattern calls for a drawstring or elastic at the hem and I didn't use either. Thank you so much for sharing my light and shadow video with your friend I'm so glad she found it helpful ! 🤗

Hi again 😊, I’m reading the instructions for the Metamorphic dress. I want to make it like you did with the single layer using the curved front. It looks like you might have made a bias binding finish for the neck and armholes, is that right? Also, do you remember the title of the video where you discussed and showed your make of the Burda pants? I tried to find them and couldn’t. Thanks for any help.😀
@thebigsewalong7 ай бұрын
yes I used a bias binding for the neck and armholes Judith, I'm so sorry I can't find the Burda pants video either! I have no idea where it is it was probably a Friday sews video or something but the changes I made are all in my response to your previous comment and please feel free to DM me on instagram if you have any other questions instagram.com/therealbigsewalong/

Do you have to alter the Tina Givens patterns much? We are very similar in size. I like the style of her patterns but have worried they would swallow me. Also, thanks for the link to Skippy Cottons. Just my style. Thanks for the video!
@thebigsewalong7 ай бұрын
Hi susan, yes I alter almost all TG patterns. but they are pretty basic shapes so altering is easy. I'd say the most important thing is to check the armholes (they tend to be wide) as for overall volume, I usually determine which size will work for my bust and shoulders and then I taper down to the smallest size from the waist down. On fuller styles I sometimes have to take them in even more. You can definitely wear her things but with TG it's never worked for me right away I feel like I have to tinker a bit on each pattern until I get it the way I want. I hope that's helpful and I'm going to do a couple of TG patterns in the next few weeks which may help you more. Thanks so much for watching 🤗

Hello and thanks for your video! I am looking at Tina Givens slip dresses and wondered if you had a recommendation for one that I should start with? I'm looking for one that doesn't show my bra underneath my arm I'm looking at Annabelle, Jolene or Zelda. it's so hard to tell without seeing it on a real person. I'm the same height as you just fluffier. Ha ha.😂
@thebigsewalong7 ай бұрын
😂😂😂I like "fluffier" I don;t think Ive done Jolene and Annabelle is HUGE it took a lot of altering for me but Zelda is my favorite TG slip the armholes are a little deep so double check before you cut it out. Other than that it's a quick and easy one
