I don't dry any of my clothing in the dryer. What I will do is air dry them then toss them in the dryer with a softener sheet for about 20 minutes to soften up the crunch. Your new Lamma hoodie really accentuates how much weight you've lost! It looks amazing on you!

Whitney, I love your Waffle Pattern coat in the plaid fabric. The Itch to Stitch sweatshirt is probably the best sweatshirt pattern I have ever seen for a women and one for us large busted women. Your choise of fabric has always been a favorite of mine as you really know what fabric to put together with what pattern. You have a really good eye for your designs and I am learning to put my patterns with my fabric, thank you for your continued help when it comes to that. Take care and God Bless you and your family and stay warm. It is only 19 degrees in snowy Mankato, MN. I am due for a shopping trip SR Harris..

When we lived in upstate New York we referred to it as “the land of many coats”! There were many people who only saw me in a coat. And, winter weather (snow, sleet, dirty cars) requires you to clean you coats often - you need alternatives.

Yes!! You would definitely need a wardrobe of coats living up there!

Born & raised in the Adirondacks. Can confirm. You need AT LEAST four winter coats (two "nice" coats [black wool peacoat with hood] and two that are more suited for the slopes [and snowball fights]) because you never know the occasion, plus one might be dirty or soaked through...you must always be ready. Being well-versed in the art of layering is a must to survive winter in "the great white north".

I’m the neighbor that dresses up for walks with my husband too! Also my walks with my dog, too. I thought I was the only one. I started after I retired last year and found I still wanted to dress nicely, not sloppily. I wore nice casual dresses in the summer and I got lots of compliments. Yes lots of coats makes sense to me here in the freezing cold Midwest.

I love them all! I am anxiously awaiting the moment I match colors, flattering shape and fabric like you have, someday . . . . . . As for drying laundry I figured out to toss things in the dryer for 10 minutes and then hang them to dry. It removes the crunch factor for me without the heat damage. The time in the dryer might need adjusting based on how hard the water is. There's not much worse than air dried towels

Thank you! We have VERY hard water where I love so things come out very crunchy. I think 10 minutes of drying time might be perfect!

I have collected up all the supplies I need to make a warm wool winter coat to help me survive the upstate NY winters. I plan on interlining the coat between the wool and the kasha lining with thinsulate which is dependably very warm (which I did locate at a reasonable price but very expensive shipping rate considering the actual weight is quite low) and currently I am trying out various techniques for the linings, facings, shoulder pads, hidden front button placket, all new to me. This coat is turning out to be such an interesting and challenging project, perfect for filling the long hours of home time these days. I am enjoying your coat sew alongs as some of the techniques are also a part of my coat project. Thanks so much!
@Timpsonsews
@Timpsonsews 4 жыл бұрын
I just spoke with vogue fabrics. I got the shipping down to $22 by using fed ex. That’s for six yards. I also live in very northern NY. Not cold yet this year, but it will come.

@farmwife7944
@farmwife7944 4 жыл бұрын
@@Timpsonsews wow, wish I had thought of that! I ordered the Kasha then went back months later and swallowed the bullet on shipping to get the thinsulate. Closet Core Patterns has a tutorial on using thinsulate to line a coat. I have decided that I will sew a very light weight interlining, then add pieces of the thinsulate into each section, sewing close to the seam lines, then using that lining as the back of the Kasha lining fabric, treating the two linings as one, if that makes sense. I didn’t want to apply it directly to the back of the Kasha only because I don’t want the stitch lines to show where I am adding the thinsulate, but I plan on stitching in the ditch to secure the two linings together before I place them into the coat. I am using Vogue 8841 and there is a full workshop on that pattern in Craftsy, the paper pattern is included in the cost. He adds a hidden button placket , doesn’t use thinsulate but that style coat will easily accommodate a heavy lining without having to alter the pattern or go up a size.

Fun review-- I especially love the bamboo coat, the orange pants, and the Hepburn turtleneck (I've made two-love this pattern!)!! The Anorak coat looks so nice as well, I may have to check into that!! Everything of course looks fabulous! Oh my word-I just received an email from "Itch to Stitch" this morning for the Lamma-and I bought it!! That looks like a must have for any wardrobe-I love your version!! I had just bought myself some red sweat-shirting-will have to sort through my stash for the contrast, as that really makes it so figure flattering I think!! Oh, I'm so sorry-I received their email-so I didn't see your video prior to my buying!! So sorry!! Next time I will check first. :+)

I love the new Itch to Stitch hoodie, but I think when I make it I will make the one with the cowl neck. I reckon that you could make this with some active wear fabric too. I made the Itch to Stitch Orono Top and I love it. I made it from some brushed French Terry that I bought from Lush Fabrics here in Australia. I was wearing it last year and whilst in the supermarket a young lady came and complimented my top, she couldn't believe that I had made it! I do hope you are feeling better and don't forget to do some self care! I will let you know about Bendigo Woolen Mills when I go and visit next week. Take care and Love to Gidget

I put my jeans in the dryer for 10 to 20 minutes with a dryer softener and then I take them out and hang them to dry. I also do that to my husbands jeans and for him we stretch his waist band. He buys a 34 waist which is just a little tight, 35’s are hard to find. We just need to give them a good tug which helps them to fit just right. You can also pull the legs to make them longer. They feel much better than jeans just air dried.

I want to make out of a rainwear fabric or a polyester that would be water resistant. Also is the waist cinching really at the waist. I don’t like ties higher up, bu I could always lengthen that. Do you think I could line a boiled wool coat or jacket with polyester fleece? The fleece does have some horizontal stretch while the boiled wool has none, of course. I’d really appreciate your opinion because this’ll be my first attempt at a non-beginner pattern.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 4 жыл бұрын
I think it could be done. I would caution the sleeves, though. While you could definitely line a sleeve with fleece, it will cause your clothes underneath to catch. I prefer to have my sleeves lined with something slippery as it’s just easier to wear. Another thing to keep in mind is that the fleece will cause a bit more bulk so you might need to size up the pattern!

Hi! You mentioned that you have been wearing clothing from your color pallet. How did you find what this is for yourself? Or have you made a video on it? Thank you!

I have made a video about my experience here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/imbZk3evqZJ_nac . It was well worth the investment!

I want to make the sweatshirt. But I have an off topic question? What is the name of the nails (fingernails) you used? I have rewatched a bunch of Volgmas. But I just can't find it

The nails are Impress by Kiss and you can find pretty easily at any drugstore. You can also find them on Amazon. I’ve been so impressed with them!

How did you adjust the size for your lining.
@TomKatStitchery
@TomKatStitchery 4 жыл бұрын
For the Kelly Anorak? I didn’t adjust the size. Quilting the lining to the Thinsulate kept it flat enough to not need a size adjustment.

I was laughing to myself as you we’re talking basically about not leaving out people in warmer climates that don’t need a lot of thick coats. You said you didn’t want to ostracize and I thought you were going to say “my fair weather friends”. Lol
