For what it's worth, the title used for the number is not the actual spoiler. The real "twist" is much, much stupider. To the point where you legitimately wonder what kind of drugs the developers were on when they decided to end the game that way. It sincerely harms the experience. Makes the whole game not worth playing in a way. It's that bad. Either way, not a game worth playing because of it. In my opinion. The rest of the game can be interesting and make you curious. Love your videos, Jess. I tapped out on Diablo Immortal upon first hearing it was a mobile game. I like my Diablo games with ambiance and great art direction. I've always loved how the games could make me feel. Never been much for grinding, but the sights and sounds in this series could make it soothing and enjoyable. Can't see that possibility on mobile, where I'd be constantly interrupted by other phone apps. But I'm also leery of Diablo 4's multiplayer requirement. Other people distract me from the experience I want to have, so we'll see how it plays out upon release.

You can solo Diablo 4. I did for the open beta. The problem is that it's like ESO or FO '76 with having everyone else be visible. And I swear there were people that showed up at the last second when I was doing a challenge solo. They'd run up and clearly 'grab their reward' then run off without any contribution to the challenge. I think one or two people actually showed up and did help as I was doing a challenge. If this is indeed a thing then there has to be a way to kick out or punish(no reward or some crappy cheap common item) players that try to leech off others who put in the hard work.

Destiny 2. Early on when it was discovered Bungie was throttling EXP gains if you were earning too fast so that the free loot boxes from the Eververse shop couldn't be farmed quickly. The experience you were earning from tasks was showing numerically correct on screen, but the progress bar was showing that you were getting next to nothing. They made an excuse about it being a glitch and "fixed it" but then the very next week it was discovered that they just tweaked something else to keep the throttle but hidden differently. I went from very much addicted to the game to never picking it up again in an instant. I didn't even care about the stupid loot boxes. It was 90% consumable cosmetics. It was just so very disrespectful to us as their player base that the magic was gone.

What genuinely put away a lot of people from Diablo Immortal was the notion that it's sole purpose was to be an infinite cash cow for Acti-Blizz in China and unfortunately everything is showing that was 100% true. A solid game that hooks you up on the beginning, only to reveal its greed the moment you reach end game. The greed is so enormous that your only chances of progress are either: -f2p farming that will take decades since there are secret limits that are never told in game on how much you can grind without spending a dime. -spending literally thousands of dollars for a CHANCE to get items that you want. You can literally spend an entire cost of your house cost and you're not guaranteed to get what you want.

I actually love DMC. I prefer the sassy Dante. The combos felt smoother and faster. Weapon loads were scaled down and combo moves scaled up. More intriguing story and the world looked gorgeous. It also couldn't of sucked that bad...as the Devil May Cry 5 Director wanted to make DMC2 but Capcom wouldn't allow it. Thus he made Devil May Cry 5 as close to DMC without it being to obvious to Capcom. When you look at the setting it is a dead giveaway. DMC is a fusion of London and USA. Devil May Cry 5 has Route Master London buses, London style markets and architecture. Also the place names...very London. Where the American flavour comes in is The RV, the lady that drives it/upgrades your gear (forgot her name) and the soundtrack.

Man, I convinced my parents to get me Devil May Cry in the 3rd grade, and DMC3 in 4th right when it came out. I’ve played all of them, live every one of them, and while the DmC reboot is nowhere near the best, I feel like I’m one of the only people who still lived it. It’s better than DMC2 any day of the week
@shinzero0271
@shinzero0271 Жыл бұрын
To be fair, that isn't saying much. DMC2 did manage to improve the combat slightly and the devs put a lot more heart/polish into DMC3 after all that feedback. Devil May Cry 4 was extremely solid too. DMC5 probably had the best gameplay but some extremely repetitive level design. DmC's development caused people to check out early when Dante originally looked like his design was a self-insert of the studio head. Then there was the interviews where they were talking about how they hired epic storywriters (when they were essentially just ripping off They live and several other pop culture classics) and mocking the original Dante design. It's like the studio spent more time flexing than actually thinking about how their behavior would be received. The end result was a game that was crass in more of an offensive way than a fun one and featured a Dante who's primary character development (that made him go from unlikable to so-so) came from watching police brutalize a woman who's power required squirrel reproductive fluid to make portals. At least the combat was good at times as a solid early-mid game level design. I think the best thing would've been for DmC to be it's own unique franchise instead of a reboot that changed the entire style and theme of the franchise though. It was always going to lose fans of the first four games.

@@shinzero0271 this feels like it was written by a 7 year old who read all the other reddit posts from people speculating about the game when it was first announced. DmC is a solid 7.5/10 in my opinion, the story is pretty well put together and I actually think DMC4 has the tightest gameplay, or 3. 5 is great but feels a bit loosey goosey.
@shinzero0271
@shinzero0271 Жыл бұрын
@@chimeron260 Honestly, I followed DmC's development and don't use reddit. They definitely altered Dante's design from the initial reveal to look less like their studio head (I want to say his last name was Antoniades or something) at launch. I really wanted to like the game as a whole but the story never caught for me, particularly because they were hyping it as something 'epic' in interviews beforehand. I enjoyed the level design but the overall aesthetic was a real miss to me. I'd probably go 6/10 just from the gameplay and level design. The dialogue was cringe-worthy at best, the story was pretty basic in terms of the topics it touched on, and it was just hard to actually any of the characters. Comparatively, I'd give DMC2 a 3/10 simply because it evolved the gameplay formula even if the story was just awful and the level design was bland garbage. I probably wouldn't mind Lucia showing up again in a future game though. DMC3 was just fun overall. DMC4 was fun but got lazy near the end by having Dante backtrack many of the areas Nero already cleared while fighting the bosses again. I really, really wanted to like 5, but I had more fun just playing around in the Bloody Palace than I did in the main game. Also, I don't think there was anything really memorable about the game in terms of story or gameplay. Nico's driving was just about the only thing that stood out. DMC 5 also had good ideas but it just reinforced that the franchise has a real Vergil problem. This makes 2 games where he's summoned a giant demonic tower in the middle of a city and gotten tons of people massacred by demons. The guy has been the heart of the conflict in the games since DMC3 and I'd like to get a game where the villains weren't Vergil or things created/influenced by him.

Overwatch 2. I tapped out of there double quick when I realized that a) it had no PvE in it, the part of the sequel I was most interested in trying out, b) had zero progression or rewards systems, c) it was insanely grindy for absolutely zero payoff, _because_ of the lack of a reward system, and d) they had locked everything behind a ridiculously expensive premium shop, with skins costing 20 quid. I'd even convinced a load of my mates to play it because it was free! I loved the first Overwatch and had played it a ton, so I'd convinced them that it was a game worth playing. I looked like a right arsehole when I was the first one to drop out! Had a similar thing with Destiny 2. Played the first one a ton and loved it so bought the sequel but tapped out after only a month due to how lazy and threadbare it was, how grindy it was, and because any half-decent looking item was locked behind a premium shop paywall. I do still occasionally come back to it every now and then, but I never stay long. All my friends have quit, it's even MORE grindy than it has ever been, and most of the cool stuff is STILL locked behind a paywall, only now, there's 100 quids worth of DLCs I don't own, so I can't do much anyway!

In the case of the DMC reboot, I unintentionally did the opposite and bought into it. Way back when I was first getting into the games when I was around 12, (and even earlier than that I was watching my mom play DMC 2 on PS2 of all the games, but didn’t play it myself) my mom surprisingly got a PS3 and a copy of the reboot, which would be my first DMC and I, as young as I was, didn’t know it was already getting booed from everyone who knew Dante as a badass demon hunter and not as a teenage edgelord. Admittedly, I played so many hours of it and I even had a gameinformer magazine covering it. So it wasn’t until the release of the definitive edition that I found out through some googling articles here and there why capcom changed Dante’s whole personality, the “not in a million years” line was one example. Even if the overall story was completely changed from that of the prior games, I still liked the combat and I would try again and again to get as far as I could in the bloody palace mode.

Interest definitely got dunked into cold water when Diablo Immortal was announced as a mobile-only game, yes, but I'd argue it was when it came out that to fully upgrade a character you would either need to spend literal years grinding, or tens of thousands of actual dollars to do it immediately, that the game went from barely floating in shallow waters, to dropping like a rock off the continental shelf. That was a huge shitshow.

They wanted to make a cool character that didn't smoke (a lot of the cool types were portrayed that way at the time). Thankfully they nixed that but I still hated the changes and the story. The combat had a huge issue in color coded enemies that made your weapons bounce off if you used the wrong ones. Definitive edition did fix the combat though, very solid. So I can't claim I had enough time to get too attached to the original version of Dante, and find it interesting that the story of DMC seems to do a lot to convert him back to that original version, after starting out as a kid dedicated to his idea of being awesome and not doing anything important... which doesn't matter because fans of the original didn't play long enough to see this.

Those of us who have been playing on official servers for Ark: Survival Evolved are experiencing our jump-the-megalodon moment right now, as the game is about to be re-released in remastered form at full cost all over again, ($60, but they were originally going to charge extra for re-buying the DLC expansions, too) and the official servers with our years of progress on the verge of being wiped with about four months notice. Bonus points: my tribemates on PS4 couldn't rejoin if they wanted, because the new version, unlike the version that is out now, is only supported on the newest consoles.

The moment they released a patch that redesired your Star Wars Galaxy game.... that was filled with bugs to the brim and made you start as a jedi. Previously, to be Jedi or Sith you had to do quest that took months up to a year of dedication... then theynadded the force sensitive village that widdled it down to a month atleast. So when my friend (as it took her a year to do)seen you started as a jedi... we went to City of Heroes.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is actually pretty fun. They were forced to scrap the microtransactions, so now everthing is unlockable purely via gameplay. You'll have to grind a bit if you want all the upgrades, but right from the start, all classes and heroes are playable at base level. Picked it up in for a few bucks in January, and have not regretted it one bit.

Surprised Overwatch 2 wasn’t on this list at all. I think the fallout of the original playerbase was much larger when OW2 not only made OW1 stop getting updates anyone cared about but then released with unacceptable bugs and riddled with microtransactions and a very rough transition for many original players who lost all their account progress. OW2 was definitely a huge burn!

Funny thing about 76 is that people had been yelling about getting a Fallout MMO for literal years and then they got a pretty mediocre one. Don't know what monkey paw was used to wish that one into existence, but at least now there are NPCs. Haven't played it myself, but still, happy for everyone who still is.

For the microtransactions I would argue the companies did not scale back their plans. They intentionally overreached so that when there was backlash they could be the "good guys" by scaling things back to what they originally intended, which was still a big push forward. As for my tap out moment, X3 Reunion. This was back in the day where you could get games on disk. Reasons for tapping out: * The system requirements on the box were significantly lower than what they actually were. (mis-advertising) I was looking for a game I could play on my laptop so this was important * The user manual referenced menu items and game mechanics that did not exist * The disk were mislabeled and required you to insert them in the right order (there were 4) * Game required like a 1-2 Gig patch to get running * The only official help you had was their user forums Felt so slighted by this that Egosoft is now on my list of publishers I avoid.

"Requires an internet connection to play" on the front of a box is pretty much a "stay away" in big, bold, bright red letters for me. Babylon's Fall, Anthem and Avengers being the most stand-out examples recently, which I would have probably played otherwise. Then there's battle passes of any kind - see Chocobo GP. And now, the one that hurts the most for me: Pokemon. With how Scarlet/Violet received little to no support after a pretty bad launch, I was already just about to turn away from the series, but with paid DLC taking priority over patching the base game, I'll now turn to the clones and inspired fan projects. I played a few rather dismal ports on Switch, but there's no reason for a console exclusive to not be properly optimized.

You could tell she had no idea how to pronounce Donte since she said Dante twice. The whole point of the name change by fans (which again was never even mentioned) was it was a Don't and Dante, or Not Dante...Don'te. A pretty big oversight considering they used the Donte name for this video. Could have also mentioned the person asking if Diablo Immortal was an out of month April Fool's Joke. (Something was has become just as well known as "Don't you have phones?") DMC: Devil May Cry could have been fixed if when the wig fell on his head, he looked in the mirror and said “huh, not bad.” And then the wig stays on your head when the gameplay starts back up, complete with ridiculous challenge of the wig will stay on your head so long as you don’t get hit. Beat the game with the wig still on your head, you unlock an S-tier devil trigger that you one shot basically every enemy in the game.

Okay, hear me out on Death Stranding: The game later reveals that Amelie is essentially a goddess of the afterlife (the beach), so she's also hinting that she's the queen of the underworld and the very personification of the living/dead realm they're currently running through. The whole game is meant to be a re-imagined version of an ancient Japanese legend of Princess Himiko and Amaterasu. So there's logic to the line, even if, ultimately, it doesn't make sense and it comes across cringey as heck.

The issue with Fallout not being Single Player and it being Online instead is that what Fans actually wanted with a "Multiplayer" experience in Fallout was Drop-In Coop for the Single Player Campaign. Not a server of people who are against you. I would LOVE Campaign Coop in other games as well. I was excited for the game and love the story and gameplay but the outright insult to my intelligence that is the games refusal to let me think at all eventually broke me as the realization that the game aggressively did not want me to interact with half of its content killed my desire to finish it. The game has a myriad of wonderful accessibility options, but not one "shut up" button for puzzles, which seems like an amusing afterthought in retrospect.

Hot take. But for me it was when they killed off Desmond in AC. I was already feeling fatigued with the series but kept going because I was actually invested in the story but after that I just stopped because it felt like this was the moment they were going to just try to milk and stretch the series as far as they could. Every now and then I pop in to see what's going on in the story and the lore, but I haven't regretted not buying or playing the games anymore because it seems like since the Desmond Era they've broken and changed every rule the series originally set in place and are just doing whatever to keep it going. At this point they might as well drop the whole modern times and Animus thing but apparently Mirage is going back and the end Odyssey ties to the Desmond Era so we will see what happens

tbh, when Diablo Immortal was announced, I was embarrassed by the reaction to it than the game. They hadn't gone out and said 'hey, we're announcing stuff about Diablo 4' and then pulled the rug out from under us gamers. They just said they had an announcement about Diablo, everyone assumed it was about Diablo 4, and then got upset that it wasn't about that at all. Yes I know that they're vindicated now by the heavy and exploitive microtransactions, but at the time it still felt like we were getting mad about what they were announcing wasn't what we wanted them to announce.
