Ledger's genius in The Dark Knight cannot be doubted. Apart from that hospital explosion there are lot of scenes Ledger improvised such as his clap when Gordon got promoted and many other. He designed the make up himself, shot a cam scene of a victim he was torturing himself. Went into isolation for a month to prepare for the role, kept a journal. Man, I can go on and on. RIP Ledger, you will be missed in Hollywood fraternity for all eternity. Anyways, that first few seconds of the video though. Another worth noting is Star Lord drops the Orb in Guardians of the Galaxy. During the filming of that scene, apparently Chris Pratt actually did drop the prop and pick it back up, which wasn't scripted, but he managed to stay in character when he did it, so James Gunn decided to keep it in the final cut of the movie.

My personal favorite "accidental" scene comes from my favorite movie. In the first Jurassic Park (1993), during the scene where the Rex breaks the glass on Tim & Lex in the car, their reactions and screams are very real, as the glass wasn't supposed to break and come down on them in that way.

I have an old one for you, there's a scene in "It's a Wonderful Life" where George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) is watching his uncle walk away in a drunken stupor, but then you hear a huge crash and the uncle utters "I'm all right- I'm aaaaaall right!" As if he ran into some trash cans... But in reality a lighting system had fallen off stage! All the actors in that scene are genuinely concerned and laughing at the reaction!

There was a scene in the movie "A Knights Tale" where the character Chaucer is hyping up the crowd when the knight he is representing is starting to win the sword competition. This part of the film was filmed in the Czech Republic, so almost none of the extras spoke English. When Chaucer finished his speech (which was composed of confusing metaphors for how awesome the knight was) the crowd was silent. Then one of the Secondary characters started to cheer and the extras followed his example. The extras were supposed to cheer after the speech but the language barrier made it difficult for them to know when they were supposed to cheer. The directors decided to leave that scene in since it was hilarious and made sense under the circumstances.

I’m surprised that a scene from the 74 Gone in 60 Seconds didn’t make the cut. During the police chase, Eleanor was wrapped around a pole, amazing MVA and not scripted. Amazingly the car still ran and was used for the rear of the chase.

This was amazing! But, there's also another one that many people may not know: the scene in Dirty Dancing where Patrick Swayzes character is teaching Jennifer Grey's character the opening to their routine where he caresses her left side. Remember, for those who've seen the movie, how she starts laughing uncontrollably several times and he had a look of pure annoyance on his face? That was all unscripted. Their reactions, both Swayze and Grey, were 100% genuine.

Another scene that was not intended was from Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was shot on location in Egypt and some of the cast and crew, including Harrison Ford, were suffering intestinal discomfort from bad water. There is a scene in which Indiana Jones is running through the streets of Cairo after his lady friend was snatched by the bad guys. At one point, he is confronted by a big, strong, expert swordsman, waving his sword impressively. There was supposed to be some epic fight with this guy and Jones with his bull whip, but they had been working on it all day, and Ford was feeling lousy still from the bad water, so at one point, just fed up with it all, instead of using the whip, Ford pulled the gun and fired a blank at the swordsman. They used that instead.

A scene that should've been on the list is one from "The Fellowship of the Ring" During the end fight there's a scene where an Uruk-hai throws a dagger at Aragorn and he deflects it with his sword. The stuntman throw the dagger for real and Viggo Mortensen managed to knock it away

I am a HUGE Lord of the Rings fan and I was SHOCKED that the flag was an accident!!! It wasn't in the book, but i thought they just added it for the "Omg this is really bad" factor! Talk about good timing! That scene still makes me feel the anguish and horror that the people of Rohan must have been facing and it's even more powerful when the lead group coming in looks at it with such forlorn expressions. Acting at its finest people!!! PS. I love you Matt!!! Never stop making top tens please!!!

On that Joker improv, it actually was mostly planned, just the actor changed up the order a bit and how the character reacted to it. The walk with small explosions behind him was planned, the overall delay to the big explosion was planned (but to be done after he was getting into the bus), and the scene was heavily rehearsed. What was probably improvised (in comparison to the scene in the script) was how the character messed around with the detonator, the reaction to the larger and presumably louder explosion, and how close he was to the larger explosion when it did go off.

I remember hearing about one scene in one of the Lord of the Rings movies where, during one of the fights, an enemy throws a knife or something at one of the heroes, who knocks it out of the air before taking down his enemy; however, the knife actually slipped, going straight towards him rather than away, and the whole 'knock it away' thing was just a cool, happy accident on the actor's part.

I feel like you forgot two. One isn't all that big, but the other is slightly more so. The small one was another Leonardo Di Caprio mess-up. In Titanic, when he's going to paint Rose like "one of his french girls," he says, "Please, get on the bed- er, um couch." This was a mess-up in his lines that the director decided to keep because it added to his overall nervousness of the scene. I can't remember the name of this movie, but it had Alan Rickman (rip) in it. He was hanging off of this elevator and he was going to be dropped off the side of it onto one of those mats at the bottom. Apparently, the director was going to count down from three, then let him go, but he said three, and then let the actor go. Thus, the terrified look on his face was completely honest. That's all I got. Love your videos, Matt!

I also like in “a knights tale”!the locals were the extras and they missed their cue to cheer, so one of the actors gives them a verbal cue and they all cheer, it makes it a really comical scene. Another good heath ledger movie

You missed 2 big ones. 1. The scene were Maria and the captain arguing after the cannon capsized in The sound of music”. The captain is supposed to say “oh yes you are fraulein” but says “oh yes you are captain, *pause* fraulein” 2. The party scene in “It’s a wonderful life, were uncle billy walks of screen drunk, the crash you hear is actually the sound of a stack of film reel canisters being knocked over by a stage hand. And uncle billy improved the line “im ok, im alright”

It was actually because there was a salt lake a ways away, and the wind changed direction, pushing the smell of dead fish on to the set.

There was no improvising in the hospital explosion scene in the Dark Knight. They couldn’t afford to make any mistakes with the scene because they couldn’t shoot the scene more than once. They were actually blowing up a real hospital that was scheduled for demolition, since it was as such, they could only shoot the scene once. Ledger did a lot of improvisation in the film, but he couldn’t improvise for that scene

The joker scene was my favorite. Mom and I saw it in theaters and we laughed at that part. The pyrotechnics were having a little trouble lol but the scene was perfect. We lived a few miles from Pittsburgh and being proud of any movie filmed there; we went to go and see the movie. Same with Reacher. I've since moved back to Florida. I Wish they filmed more movies in Florida. That would be awesome.

Another good one was from the original Jaws - when the shark, Bruce, was supposed to come up on the boat, and they said the line "We're gonna need a bigger boat," it was because the mechanical shark was sinking their boat :) Spielberg liked it and kept it.

Raiders of the Lost Ark was supposed to have a dramatic fight scene involving Dr. Jones using his bullwhip to fend off a swordsman, but Harrison Ford was horribly ill and, fed up after several takes, drew the Webley revolver holstered at his hip and fired a blank cartridge. Spielberg kept that take.

Another accidental miracle in Lord of the Rings was at the battle of Helm's Deep. The moment where it started raining was completely by coincidence. These movies were destined to be made, I swear to god

In the family friendly movie "how to train your dragon", the scene in which hiccup finds toothless is another accident. As the camera pans over the top off the downed dragon, the eye reveal was a complete misinterpretation of what was supposed to have happend - however the directer loved the creepyness of it and kept it in the final take. ((Source, the blue ray edition contained notes left by the devs XD))

Don't forget that scene in "Christmas Vacation" where Clark goes ape on plastic Santa and the plastic reindeer: when Clark punches and punts the plastic Santa, it's because the actor Chevy Chase accidentally broke his pinky finger when he did that and he flew into a rage, kicking the reindeer. Also, with that scene in "Django Unchained" where Leonardo DiCaprio smears the blood on Kerry Washington's face: the look on Kerry Washington's face and her reaction were both genuine. It's like that chest-burster scene from "Alien": John Hurt was filled in on the chest-burster beforehand. That scene in the original "Friday the 13th " where Kevin Bacon's character gets offed by an arrow up and through the throat from behind: the "blood" bubbling up and out was an accident. The "blood" clogged in the tubing in the prosthetic and so the person controlling the prop decided to blow into the tubing to unclog it and the now-unclogged "blood" bubbled up and out. Also, with the hospital explosion: when the explosion occurred, it made Heath Ledger recoil a bit in shock momentarily because he was caught off-guard.

The chances of you seeing this are pretty slim to none. However I would like to say that you are my favorite KZbinr.. I appreciate your content and it helps me learn little facts. Surprisingly I have found that even in my worst of moods and on the worst of days I can watch your videos and just from the way you act I can't help but smile. That leads into greater things. I've started training again and started eating better and in my rituals (daily goals) I make it a goal to watch at least one video a day. Thank you @MatthewSantoro
