Every time I see you talk about A Green and Ancient Light I get excited about it and then forget about it again, so thanks for the reminder, I am gonna save it on my TBR for real now lol. Also all the love for Wickwire, Percy, Hobbit and Hills!! 🤩

Hills of Heather and Bone is next on my list, I ordered it a couple days ago! Not sure if you’d like this, but what immediately comes to mind for me for the perfect winter read is The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. It’s a retelling of a Russian folktale about a childless couple who build a snow child one night and the next day they see a girl running through the woods. It’s historical fiction/magical realism set in Alaska. I’m a big sucker for folktale-esque books and this one is a favorite.

I'm going to check out The Snow Child! Thank you so much for the recommendation. I think folktale vibes are perfect for winter too. I hope you enjoy Hills of Heather and Bone!

Kings of the Wyld has been on my TBR way too long. One I need to get to this year. Great List, Tori! I read some more great stories from the Advent of Winter, which would be my add to the Winter Reading List. - Cheers

I paused the video to download a copy of Green and Ancient Light to my e-reader. One of my favorite winter reads is The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper. It is considered a 10-12 year old level, but fun to read in the Dark of Winter.

I'm listening to the Dark is Rising right now, it's one I've loved my whole life - not just a winter read but a perfect Christmas/Solstice read to share with the characters. All five books are a must read if you like the idea of time traveling through disparate British history, standing against the Dark.

I had never heard of A Green and Ancient light. That sounds fascinating. And I do think it's time for me to give Terry Pratchett a go at long last! A several more of these have already been on my radar and I'm really looking forward to them (Hills of Heather and Bone and Piranesi!!)

My biggest gripe with Piranesi is how much information you're given and almost none of it matters to the plot.

Great list, Tori! I'm just now reading The Spider Key and it's SO good. I honestly made my 2024 fav reads video too soon because this one may have snuck in! Miss Percy sounds like it'll fill the void in my life left by Lady Trent 😁

YES! So glad you're liking Spider Key. I love that book. This is why I never release my Favorites of The Year video before the first week of the next year. What if I read a new favorite the last week of December??? I haven't read Lady Trent but Mildred is a fabulous protagonist, and she brings the wholesome regency vibes... + a dragon. XD

@ToriTalks2 I knowww!! I thought i wouldn't actually have time to finish any more books this holiday break, but plans change and I got addicted sooo here we are 😅 The ending of The Spider Key was completely unacceptable. I may or may not have jumped straight into book 3 😅 Thanks for the info on Miss Percy! I'll be sure to read it soon 😊

My winter recs would be Silence of the Girls, Silence of Bones, The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea and The Night Tiger. Less cheery vibes but they all have a slower more folklore type of vibes to their writing which makes me think of winter. I have also added Miss Percy’s to my kindle, it seems like a great read!

I have Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea on my shelf, can't wait to get to it! Silence of Bones was good too, I read that this year. Folklore is definitely a good winter vibe. Thanks Charmaine! I hope you like Miss Percy. :D

I agree that the Christmas holidays are a good time for light, fun reads. But then what season is a good time for deep, involved, dark epics? 8-) In keeping with your list, I'll also suggest Kristen Painter's "Jayne Frost" series. It's a cozy mystery/suspense series starring Jack Frost's daughter (the niece of Santa Claus). In the first book, she has been sent to Nocturne Falls to manage the local Santa's Workshop store ... and find out why employees are disappearing.. It's rather silly, but a fun and fast read.

I'm planning on some videos highlighting epic fantasy reads, so I wanted to go a little different direction for this one. Especially since I recommend a lot of heavier reads XD Thank you so much for the recs, I'll check it out! You might like Patricia Meredith's Christmas mysteries if you enjoy the Jayne Frost books.

Hey Tori, Have you ever read the series the spooks apprentice? In the US it is called The last apprentice. It’s falls into reading like Harry Potter I don’t know if you’d call that YA 🤷🏻‍♀️. I’m in love with it, it’s a wonderful world and it’s not like anything I’ve read but like everything I’ve read ha ha ha. It’s by Joseph Delaney and it’s a world just like J.K.Rowling that I often visit when I’m over reading but want something to read 😂. If you get a chance check it out! ❤
