Thanks. Note that St Rose "disfigured" her face using red pepper when her mother wanted to show her off so she can make a profitable marriage. She didn't actually disfigured her face permanently.

ST. MARY MACKILLOP (1842-1909) of Australia founded the Sisters of St. Joseph, who devoted themselves to providing free education and other services to the poor. They founded schools, orphanages, homes for the aged and various other ministries. Mary’s independence and social ideas concerned Church authorities, and she and her Sisters were subject to a campaign of vilification by many clergy. Mary was ordered by her bishop to surrender control of her schools and her order. She refused, and was excommunicated for “disobedience and rebellion.” 47 of the Sisters were dispensed from their vows. Most of their schools were closed. For a while, Mary was sheltered by Jesuit priests, and lived with a Jewish family. On his deathbed, the bishop apologized for his actions, and absolved Mary from excommunication. But the harassment from other bishops continued. The Vatican investigated the situation and supported Mary MacKillop and her Sisters. Mary was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010.
