for the english speakers in here who are watching this video: Viili is really weird stuff as its sort of like sour milk or sour cream BUT the main difference is as you can see in the video that its really "gooey" or "stringy" and it sort of has this slimey consistency :D its really hard to describe but it tastes good and you can get them flavoured too if you want! :P

I also bake the Karjalanpiirakat at home, a lot actually. But what I found out is that the rye flour you use is really important and it can change how the final product taste. Once I baked using the finnish rye flour and it was reaaaally similar to what I had it Finland, but when I used the (in my case Czech) not Finnish rye flour - it was still pretty good but never as good as those from when I used the Finnish flour.

Leipäjuusto looks very similar to a squeaky cheese we have in Brazil, called queijo coalho. We also have it grilled or baked, but usually with savory stuff. I loved it so much that I can almost taste it just thinking about it. And I'm sure I'd like the meat pies since I got hooked on another type of meat pie that has more of a crispy pot pie type of crust that I found when I was in New Zealand and the UK. But they do sell Jamaican meat pies at the Dollar Tree which are similar except very very spicy. But I'm fat so obviously there's not too many foods I don't enjoy. LOL

I have been to Finland many times. My wife is Finnish, from Kerava, in Southern Finland. I have had all of these foods. For my very Americaized tastes, skip all of these foods except the Berries, buy they from the local farmer's stalls, not the supermarkets. All the other foods would not sell in America, other than to Finnish people. What should you really try when you are in Finland? Salmon! Any kind of Salmon, sold in Finland! My favorites were the flavored smoked salmon! Even the supermarket smoked salmon was GREAT! I loved the Peppercorn & Blue Cheese flavored one the best. If you want to spend more money, they also have a "Salmon Cake" that is made of smoked salmon & layers of a soft fuffy cake. It's not a desert or sweet, but it is so good. The Finns don't know that the rest of the world's salmon is sub-par compared to theirs. Tips on enjoying traditional Finnish foods: add a lot of butter & even pickled herring, if you like raw fish. The best way to eat Traditional Finnish foods are with a local Finnish family that has cooked it fresh(this is true of almost everyone's traditional foods, no surprise) & copy how the real Finns eat it. I did also like their meat pies, but they are very close to Russian style meat pies. The main thing about Finnish foods are that the ingredients are all so fresh & un-processed/preserved & much healthier than American foods. They are also not overly seasoned & the flavor from the actual ingredients shine through in every bite.

It seems that I tried all of these. But one thing which I want to try and which is not mentioned in this video is Mämmi.

I’m looking forward to trying Finnish squeaky cheese. My dad said when he was younger and would attend any special family occasions (weddings, funerals😆, etc) there would be squeaky cheese. One day I will be blessed 😂😭 But that texture of that “yogurt” is making me uncomfortable but intrigued to try! 😂😂

3:08 näkkäri ... how does it compare to knäckebröd? Which type of Wasa knäcke is closest (I think näkkinleipä is a straight off translation from knäckebröd)?

same shit same shit ... (lol ! I love knäckebröd and you are right, we got the name "näkki"leipä from Swedish language)

I remember my Mummo making karjalanpiirakka for me as a kid and and for years i tried making from scratch back in the states and failed every time only to find out as an adult she just bought it at the supermarket frozen. XD

Bread cheese is best cheese I have eaten. Keeping it in a micro while it little bit melted. After that a touch of salt to it and having enjoy any jam. It is our family favorite.

Korvarna där är inte alltid så fantastiska. Så hoppade du över det bästa, memmi! Annat glömt är surskorpa och en del annat. Av det som visades är brödrost bäst. Den gnissliga....

I understand that this is 6 years late, but what are your thoughts on lohikeitto? I didn’t try it yet, but it really caught my eye when I saw it, and I really want to try it when I eventually move to Finland after college (I’m American)

Aaaw yeah, all the good stuff right there! Rruischips with a dab of savory mixture of ham/sourcreme(or viili) "salad" ... Or a dab of shrimp/mayo is always a great apetizer or just snackos deluxe. Huh! Weird, I've never stumbled across this black sausage, I'd probably enjoy it too since I regularly eat Swedish blood pudding (black pudding). The finnish rye näkkileipä made super thin like long rectangular wafers are slowly creeping out and taking market shares in Europe. I can find this thin Finnish crisp bread all the way down into Germany! Seen it in stores as far south as Cologne. The problem is, once you pop the packet you just can't stop eating it... just one more... yes, thats all I need... a li'l butter, some tasty cheese, a li'l finely chopped onions 😍😍😍

I used to eat viili with sugar and cinnamon, but tell me Aleksi why that fork cos now people think we eat viili with fork and not with spoon :D

I am in Ohio and I tried Bread Cheese (sqeaky cheese). THE BEST CHEESE, everyone should try it, make sure u heat it up. It actually does sqeak. By the way, Finns drink more coffee per capita than any other country.

Mustamakkara; in Croatia we have something similar - Krvavica (literally bloody sausage), just what looks much bloodier :-)

In Finland blood sausage and blood pudding and blood bread are all different types of blood dishes. Blood bread was more common before.

I do love Finnish bread cheese. Much nicer than halloumi (less oddly salty).
