I just did one myself recently. I mounted my motor on the front and cut a large area out of the top canopy area to house the battery, speed controller and receiver. Im using a 1304 3100kv motor, 5030 props, 300ma 2s battery. It flys great and last about 3min flight time. Havent tried my 450ma battery yet.

Using the same Sky Rider glider, I made a very similar pusher plane. Differences were: * motor was placed further aft * thrust was tilted up to decouple pitch from throttle * rather than a rudder, I used a v-tail mixer to drive split elevators.

thanks for posting. nice work. some thoughts. note that the ideal thrust line intersects the center of mass. here, offset thrust tries to push the nose down. thrust angle can be adjusted to reduce this affect. thrust should be directed up, just a bit. this can be seen on 'store-boughts'. cheers

Dude, I had this exact idea 10 years ago but using an air hogs storm launcher and a Walmart plane. My idea would have differential thrust and an elevator control surface. Awesome job! Ya, it's fun. You beat to the fun factor.

Did you put the motor horizontally or with some inclination? The sky king plane has a left turn, other modelers put the engine tilted up pointing the nose of the plane and others tilt the engine down the rudder. What is your opinion?

What size prop did you use? I am currently building 5 planes for the Boys I work with, I take kids that have gotten into some trouble and some who might be heading into trouble. Your set up seems to be the simplest and easiest to maintain, I have a great bunch of guys and gals and I would love to “ Streamline “ their planes, if you could give some parts and spec I would be very grateful! I thank you and My Guys and Gals also Thank you!

Nice job Justin! I bought one of these last year at Wallyworld for exactly the same purpose. I just need to do it. Did you use a 2cell and a 1806 motor? I figured on remaking the rudder elevators and/or adding to them as you did. I was worried the wings might fly out but thought about using a couple toothpicks or cut off barbeque skewers .. Excellent job, and fun for letting the neihborhood kids try out. :)

Your thrust direction is trying to make it nose down. It’s counter-intuitive, but you’d be be better off moving the motor a couple inches forward and maybe even do a pull configuration instead of push, and angle it so that the thrust center line intersects the center line of the fuselage as near as possible to the center of gravity. Could do the same by moving it further back and angling it the other direction. The climb rate wouldn’t be as good because the thrust would be pushing down on the center of gravity but it wouldn’t want to pitch forward when you apply throttle as much. There will always be some weird tendencies when the thrust line isn’t near the roll axis, but you can minimize the weirdness by making the thrust line go through the center of gravity.

When you speak of thrust angle, How many are we talking about? Also did you run the wires for the battery in the fusalage if so how did you do it?
@JustinStanley
@JustinStanley 7 жыл бұрын
I did not calculate a thrust angle for this plane, I mounted the motor 90 degrees from the fuselage. Adding a thrust angle would make it perform better and be less stress on the motor. The wires were just taped to the side, I did not think that the plane was going to work as good as it did so I just threw it together.

on re-watching, i see that an adjusted thrust angle has been used. there is another thrust issue. the motor pylon should be mounted farther aft. this comment is prompted by the observed behavior of the model, during take-off. cheers example of correct motor location www.generalhobby.com/images/allmodels2/hawksky-v2-17.jpg

@jonbbaca5580
@jonbbaca5580 6 жыл бұрын
Looks like an 1806 motor, which would only need a 20 amp ESC. Looks like a five inch quadcopter propeller. He's using the FlySky i6, which is a great little $50 radio that comes with a receiver. Probably 9 gram servos. Not sure if he's using 2S or 3S batteries, but either would work.

I was about to say the same thing. And I'm a nice guy. It is a motor and there is a difference. "How to" , you're not being very nice. Take your own advice and ESAD! Now, is that a pusher prop when the prop pushes the front 1/3 of the plane and pulls the rear 2/3?
