when i was traveling through ecuador, there was a small japanese restaurant that only sold takoyaki on the sidewalk. it was so good. i ate it almost every day. i can't wait to travel to japan someday.

I eat natto almost daily, but I've found that natto at breakfast joints have been not to my liking! I need mine with tkg and rayu with extra nori!

Would like to also recommend unagi-don or eel rice bowl, as well as gyoza or dumplings. They are cheap and there are tons of specialty restaurants serving them, and they are quite unique from a western standpoint. My last trip to Japan I also splurged on a really good wagyu teppanyaki place, probably not worth the price but the experience might be worth it for some people.

Very true, can never go wrong with gyōza! I like eel, but I'd rather avoid it since it tastes similar to brackwater fish in Norway which I have a problem with lol

When traveling with a child it was hard to eat at super nice places because he can't sit still, but my favorite was an okonomiyaki place in Hiroshima. There were only like 8 chairs. We went right when it opened and ate quickly to not hold up spots too much, but it was so delicious and the owner was so cool.

Those small shops are the best, and usually they have yakisoba and yakiudon too!

Nobody ever mentions yakisoba, or yakitori. I doubt those people have even been to Japan. Kinda like how Marco Polo supposedly went to China and didn't mention a lot of trivial but surely odd (to a European) cultural details, like coins with holes in them. Or, maybe I was two years in a Japan simulator and nobody actually puts mung bean paste in a roll and calls it a dessert.

I categorize yakisoba as matsuri food, because paying a high price to sit on an uncomfortable rock and eating it out of a shitty plastic container with a similarly overpriced small Asahi is the way. You haven't lived unless you have some torikawa yakitori, that's for sure!

Personally I enjoyed eating Sushi the two times I've actually had it. But the yakiniku was the best shit that has ever touched my lips so far. Love Japanese BBQ!

I'm back home right now. Coincidentally we were eating naans in an indian curry restaurant when this video had released. We ate sweet red beans paste naans as dessert. Likes anpan. It's extra order instead of refill. Because it's not on list of refills.
