As an Australian, I can assure you that that is exactly why the bears and face biting things left both Australia and New Zealand. Where as we managed to keep all the little things that will kill you. I suspect it is because there are not many devices small enough for spiders, and snakes get sick of bashing the keys with their face.

Ok I’m from nz and you generalised eg ‘ they don’t wear shoes ‘ , of course they wear shoes everywhere, a few don’t , mostly when at the beach or on holiday maybe . sandflys , you make it out like they are everywhere, nope only certain times of the year and generally by rivers , lakes etc . Plug switches definitely a safety feature , we are taught from kids to turn off the switch before unplugging. Unfortunately you had a bad experience at the warehouse, they are not all like that , 1 bad egg in the basket so to speak . You don’t payWave ? Get with it USA ! This is timesaving and fast ! We can also pay by our mobile phone . Tipping is definitely a no no and very hard for us to get used to when we go overseas

Lynne Bax why r u sooo offended by what this lady experienced! Your country does have those nasty flies everywhere so who cares??? And we do tip the world around! Most people don’t even know you exist! Get the hell off your high horse by your kids done real shoes and HEAT up your homes!
@lynnebax2616 жыл бұрын
nikosnalexsmom haha you are so funny ! Why do you think I’m offended ? I was simply saying the way she was talking tts like she’s saying there is sandflys everywhere when there is not , none in cities generally at certain times of the year and around water . Wearing no she’s ? She makes it out like we all do it and no one wears any , mostly we do it occasionally when on holiday, yes there are kids that will go to the local shops in bare feet , I think it’s great they have the freedom to do it and feel comfortable in their own skins ! I was simply annoyed they way she talked she categorized us all New Zealanders the same . One thing I do agree with you is our lack of heating our homes , for some reason I shake my head of that as to why , most places nowadays have heat pumps or log fires , offended ? - no , but please don’t come back to our beautiful country if we offend you !

Idk if that's still the deal now. I don't even carry cash anymore except for my coin stash in the car for parking meters. I must say, it is a lot easier and faster using eftpos rather than having to count out notes or fish around for that elusive 50c coin somewhere in your pocket while holding up the line at the checkout. Even using the chip and having to enter the pin number is starting to feel weird and 'oldschool' now with paywave and smartpay on our phones

Or sometimes you'll find a tip jar at a bar or cafe (again freedom to do as you please). Also 'no worries' is another common saying. And there are plenlty of free limitless wifi cafes and awesome spots in Auckland! You just got to know where to go. But maybe only it the cities and bigger towns.

1:10 Sadly, this is a mistaken impression. According to OECD crime stats, NZ ranks #1 for vehicle theft, #2 for burglary, #3 for rape and we're about mid-table for robbery and homicide. These are 2014 figures but I have no reason to think there's been any significant change, especially bearing in mind the government are presently crowing about a reduction in the prison population. This means the bastards are walking the streets. NZ is *not* a safe international destination... there are far too many unhung cunts in circulation... and don't go thinking it is. Be cautious to the point of paranoia (just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're *not* out to get you) and if it feels 'hinky', it probably is. If you insist on coming here, bear this shit in mind and trust your instincts.

It is becoming more common to have free wifi in cafes here. Sometimes you may need to ask if they have guest wifi and they will give you the password.

Hey, loved the vid but I though I should clear up some things as a kiwi. Target in New Zealand is a hardware store and if you go to the bigger city’s like Auckland and Wellington you have I’ll find there are a lot more people wearing shoes. But awesome vid and I’m glad you liked your visit !!

'Sweet as' is a contracted form of 'as sweet as a nut' which has been in Kiwi English forever.

The paywave thing is totally everywhere here in Australia. When I was in the States, they always got me to sign, but they'd already given me my card back. They never looked to see if the signature matched, so I started signing 'Chicken'. Here in Australia, if they need a signature, they'll hold your card till you've signed, then compare it. Perhaps that's why everything we do here now is paywave up to $100 then pin as well for anything over. Love the vid by the way.
@heyshayla6 жыл бұрын
Haha that’s true, I didn’t even have a signature on my card until they made me in New Zealand haha or I’ll right “see id” so they can compare the card to my id!
@everythingshiny6 жыл бұрын
Yeah they always made me sign in America too but never even looked at my signature. When my American friend came over she had to sign the back of her card so they could compare it. In NZ, paywave is up to $80 and then you need a pin. :)

What a legend haha

America has only in the last year or so moved onto chip cards, but even then they've screwed the security of them by not requiring PINs with the chip. The entire retail banking and payment system in the US is at least a decade behind the rest of the world.
@user-kx5se6ee6x5 жыл бұрын
Wow, as a person who lives in NZ I was shook when you said that the outlet was different because it had a switch?? Because I thought ALL countries had a switch?? Well, I guess for someone who lived in NZ for their whole life would find these things normal. Also, If a kiwi (what people who live in NZ are called) goes to the U.S would find ALOT of things different.

I’m a kiwi and you had me laughing like crazy all the way through your video. Yes we are a little bit different here, but hey... it’s all “sweet as bro” right? You definitely should have gone bare feet walking - it’s awesome freedom. Maybe next time you’re here!?! Just wondering if you went to see the All Blacks play rugby without shoulder pads and no protective gear? We breed them tough here!
@heyshayla6 жыл бұрын
I’m so glad you find it funny!! Some people got a little defensive and nz was my favorite place I’ve ever been! We didn’t get to go to an all blacks game but we did go to a rugby game in Christchurch!!

You totally reminded me about a bunch of things that I thought were weird, but I loved about NZ when I first moved here. Cool video! However, the ‘Big dipper’ & Orion’s Belt are both in our sky, they’re the opposite way around to what you are used to in the northern hemisphere. The Big Dipper might only be visible at certain times of the year, I can’t remember exactly, but I look at Orion all the time.
