I hope you guys do more of these! I always watch videos on stocking ideas but it’s frustrating when the video is “these fish are cool in this sized tank” but they don’t tell you how many, what community fish they can put in as well, how many community fish fit together. It’s nice to have an actual guide on a real community size!!

I followed this similar stocking advice and did it with a dwarf gourami, 7 ember tetras and 4 coryrdoras , after a fish loss and gourami accident the tank is now finally an ember - shrimp and rams horn snail colony . Doing well at 5 months and up probably starting to balance itself out

If you do end up with a male betta, keep an eye on him when you add him to your tank for a couple hours. Bettas are all different and they could go after the other fish for a little bit and then settle down, or they could be very aggressive towards them. In my personal experience as long as the betta has enough room available to him alone he'll be fine

I find most male bettas with smaller fins are more aggressive. Maybe the ones with longer fins weigh them down? I dunno. For example my rosetails are always calm. My regular halfmoons chase everything. I just got my first Dumbo ear with some cardinal tetras and 1 snail and their doing fine.

I’m planning on getting a female betta but my mum surprised me with a male one. I’m thinking of using one of those breeder box to put him in so the fish can first meet each other and after a while I could try and see if any of them will be aggressive when I release him and if they are I would separate them

Right now I have neon tetras, black skirt tetras, rosy red minnows and a mystery snail in my 10 gallon. 14 total, and yes I know it's overstocked, new and learning. I may have to get another tank though, because my minnows are food hogs, I always watch to make sure everyone gets fool though. I absolutely love my mystery snail! He's such a character I love watching him!
@neilmartin9911 ай бұрын
That is not necessarily overstocked. Just keep an eye on your water parameters and do weekly 10 - 20% water changes. Change/rinse your filter media at least once a month. Having live plants is also a good idea.
@michaelfox68202 жыл бұрын
Glad you did this video. I just set up a Fluval Flex 15, which has 12 gallons of swimming space, and have been considering stocking options myself. My first two choices for centerpiece fish were the same as yours, except I was thinking about two Honey gouramis because they're so small. I've been stuck on the cleanup crew for all the reasons you gave. I was thinking pygmy corys or otocinclus, but like you noted, they should be done in schools. I'm hesitant about snails because I have a population problem in my larger tank and all I can do is pull out the 10 or so I see on the glass every day. With the mystery snail, if I put in just one, am I risking another population problem if I miss the eggs? I also thought of shrimp. Amanos are good cleaners and they're fairly big. I'm sure they would work with the Honey gourami, but I've heard that some bettas will attack them. The betta is the real wild card. Get a peaceful one and you have a lot of options. Get an aggressive one, and you have almost no options. I tried twice with female bettas when I had two platys in this aquarium. The first one was constantly chasing them and one platy was dead the next morning. I exchanged it for another female and it was chasing the platy again. I took it back.

I'm getting my new fish tank this Tuesday after a 15 year hiatus from the hobby and am so excited! Love your channel and it's really helped me learn/remember how to properly keep and care for your tropical aquarium. I am a vet student so I especially love the scientific approach in your videos when talking about water parameters etc. I do have a question I was hoping you could help me with: The tank I'm getting is a running 70L tank with fish and everything in it. I will also be using the same filter and hardscape as is in the tank right now. However, the current owner mentioned the tank has some algae issues because of lack of proper maintenance, and suggested I completely replace the soil because that's where he thinks the problem is. Should I do this and get rid of the 'old' soil (both aquasoil and sand, tank has been running for a year), or is this soil (and its beneficial bacteria) actually crucial in keeping the nitrogen cycle running? I will have to (after some rescaping) put the fish back the same day since I don't have a second tank. Other options would be: rinsing the soil with tap water (getting rid of the exces detriment, but killing beneficial bacteria), rinsing the soil with aquarium water, putting a layer of sand on top of the current layer. Would love to know your input!
@PrimeTimeAquatics3 жыл бұрын
If you can keep the filter with existing media running and all the plants and decorations submerged in water in a large plastic totes while doing the change over, changing out the substrate is usually ok. Good luck!

Do you think blue eyed red neon rainbowfish would do well with a Honey Gourami in a heavily planted 10 gallon UNS 60S tank?

They might wind up being a little too active?

Any suggestions on what I can put in my 10 gal with my 3 panda corys? My betta recently passed from old age, I've kept bettas for over 10 years so I'm curious to know what else I could branch into without overstocking. I'm not sure if a gourami or something with pandas is a bad idea.

Any of these would do just fine!

What do you think about a betta, 4 platies and a mystery snail in a 10 gallon? Trying to plan a tank out currently only have two platies.
@PrimeTimeAquatics2 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the betta will accept the platys and other times it will chase them.

Can I keep one or a couple of honey or dwarf gourami with scarlet badis?

Honeys might work better.

Would it be okay to add one honey gourami and two mystery snails at the same time and then add the schooling fish about a week later?

If your betta is leaving them alone I wouldn't worry about it.
