Hello Tim, I've been watching all of your videos. They really are quite personal and beautiful. I visited the Cote d'Azur in 2019, and, at that time, planned to return quickly. However, the pandemic has changed many of my circumstances. I will share one of my favorite afternoons. I took the train to Monaco, and took a bus up to the palace. In that neighborhood, there are quite a few tourist shops, so I bought some postcards. I then walked down to Jardins de Saint Martin perched on the cliffside overlooking the ocean. It was such a beautiful day that I wanted to linger there, so I pulled out all my postcards and composed them then and there. It was a very inspirational place to write! Everybody would get a kick out of a post card from Monaco, I thought. When finished, I walked back up the hill with my sheaf of post cards, and stopped by the post office at the Place de la Mairie. The clerks there were surprised at the number of post cards, and promptly split into teams to stamp them all for me! It was royal service to be sure. It was a very lovely and peaceful afternoon. And cheap! I hope I will be able to visit again soon.

La Turbie. The Roman "Trophée Des Alpes", built 2,000 years ago to commemorate Augustus's conquering of the native Celts as the Roman Empire expanded west, and the views of Monaco from the Tête de Chien overlook are spectacular.
@MeandMonAmi3 жыл бұрын
Yup it’s amazing. Have you been to cafe de la Fontaine in LaTurbie?
@simonclews3 жыл бұрын
@@MeandMonAmi No, not that cafe, Tim, as I didn't do any research on restaurants before arriving on my first visit in 2010 and we haven't had a meal in La Turbie since. I had a lovely lunch at the Brasserie Pampérigouste that year (Côtelettes d'agneau, frites and a half litre of rose). It was on my 56th birthday. I just stumbled upon it as I explored the village. I was on my own, as Susan and our daughter were in Nice shopping for my birthday present :-). I had intended to tour the Trophée on that occasion, but it was a Monday - the only day they're closed. After lunch I walked up the hill to the Tête de Chien to view Cap Ferrat, Èze, Monaco and, in the hazy distance, Corse, of course.

@@simonclews Yup it’s a terrific view. Fontaine is well worth booking for. It’s the sister restaurant to the much more expensive Hostellerie Jerome.

Hi Tim, great video thanks. We arrived back from VF yesterday & miss it already, roll on November when we’re back. A great autumn, winter & spring day out (especially on the clearer cooler days) is Parc departmental de la grande corniche up above Eze village. Even better costal views - from the Red rock area west of Cannes to Italy AND inland to the Alps - even better when there’s snow on the mountains. Lots of walks and picnic areas - if you want you can walk all the way to La Turbie and take the bus back. Its all completely free too. Thanks for being patient with us when we cornered you on La Darse beach - a real gent! Paul & Ali

Fall IS the best time to travel. We love the fall colors, whether in Eze, Menton or anywhere in the Cote d'Azur. I realize we are tourists however we are 'seasoned' and so enjoy not seeing crowds of tour groups from Sep-early November. Couldn't travel this year as my mom passed away but we are on for next fall. Look forward to Sunday. Merci as always. Continuing our 3rd re-watch of Me and Mon Ami (Tim too)

Hi Tim loved the suggestions those subset views will definitely be appreciated next September when we arrive after 2 years of restrictions. Edith Piafs villa, sounds interesting. I agree the Chateaux in Nice is worth am visit, we did it on the land train. We're bringing our escooters too next year so the cycle path will get used and abused. Keep up the great blogs. ;-) Vence next year already booked whoopee.

walking east from Menton, the shore road splits, the left byway leads to the old border crossing (a scene shoot in the 'Day of the Jackal' #1.) The right route (and the new border crossing) leads to a foot path and into Italy along the coast, just over the border is a small paleolithic human settlement museum that is worth a visit. The quick transformation into Italy as you walk is a memorable but simple pleasure. There probably is a way to connect to Hansbury Gardens but I didn't find it. Take the old border crossing by way for that.

We have decided to come back in the winter months since even the September weather here is still a little bit hot for us Minnesotans. We got a chance to go to your neck of the woods in Villefranche.
